As a speech pathologist with Play on Words, I look for toys that have a lot to describe. Babies and toddlers' receptive language (understanding) has been outpacing their expressive language (actually saying words) as they hear and store new vocabulary words. But at 1 ½ years, they are entering the stage of their "vocabulary explosion" when they can actually learn several new words a day. As you are playing with your child and describing her action with the toy, your job is a lot easier when there is a lot to describe in terms of texture, sounds, color, size, and shape. Point out the straw, stick and brick houses, shiny, smooth and soft surfaces, big, little and medium--sized houses, match the colored houses to the pigs and talk about shapes.

My one year old daughter received this as a gift. While she is younger than the recommended age, she is having a great time with it. She likes moving the pigs into the houses, and the wolf down the chimney. She loves to hear the story and watch while the pigs are moved and the houses are blown down. Her 3 1/2 year old brother is throughly enjoying it as well. We also love that the houses and characters all stack inside each other, so it isn't very big to store.

My 15 month old received this for Christmas and was not interested in it at all. However, my 3.5 year old can not get enough of it. I would have thought it too young for him, but apparently not. He acts out the 3 little pigs, he stuffs all kinds of things in the houses, he plays with the pigs in the bath, he organizes it all how it came. It has become one of his favorite toys.

I like the toys a lot and so does my baby, but it doesn't have the necessary labels on if the plastic materials on the piggies and wolf or the cloth for the houses are baby safe, ie BPA / PVC free. They're freaking cute. I like that I can throw the houses in the wash. The lack of better labeling is across multiple major brands and products, though, so I'll fairly say that for what it is, it's very cute. I think a better industry standard may be what's need, so overall still good but not the best in safety in my opinion.

I got this for my little girl too early. She's only 21 months old and has had it since she was 8 months old. She's not at the point where she'll listen patiently to a story or understand anything I say. When she's 2+, this toy will be more suitable. So far, she just squeezes he pigs and that's about it.
