I got this for my 10 month old daughter for Christmas. I must say I also purchased several other Hohner "toys". The toys are in quotes because I don't really consider them toys. I am a musician and wouldn't really consider most og Hohner's things toys. They are instruments with very young children in mind. All the ones I have purchased have been well built and are priced on the cheap side for what you are getting in my opinion.

Here is my breakdown of each piece in the kit:

Mini RainmakerIt's fun, babies love to watch the beads fall down through the baffles and make noise. It is equally as fun for kids to roll the rainmaker around and watch the beads tumble around. I must say I purchased Hohner's 16 inch rain maker at the same time I got this kit, so this small rain maker doesn't see as much action as the big one. This one is easy to throw in the car or a backpack to take along though. I do highly suggest buying the big long 16" rain maker from Hohner. It is worth it.

Baby Maraca It's clear so kids can see the small beads hitting the sides of the plastic. It has a decently loud noise and is fun, but in the end it's a rattle. One cool thing to point out is that both this and the rain maker build up a static charge inside of the plastic which causes some of the beads to float. This is neat in my opinion and for young kids it looks like magic. It would also be a good way to explain to help explain the effects of electricty to young kids. Kind of neat. The static electricity will NOT transfer through the plastic so there is nothing to worry about for babies getting zapped. It's just something fun I thought I would point out.

Plastic tambourine It's a fun noise maker for young ones. Sort of like shells strung together. They slide back and forth on a metal shaft. It's easy for kids to manipulate it and my daughter has had lots of fun with it.

Cage Bell This is the main reason I purchased this kit. Like I said in the begining of the review, I purchased a could other Hohner "toys" and my daughter loves them. At Christmas time she was amazed with the jingle bells but I was always a bit worried to let her play with them. Some are sharp edges, some are cheap so could fall apart, some are made from questionable materials. There were a lot of different reasons I didn't like her playing with them, but I didn't want her to miss out on having fun with them. So I started looking for baby friendly bells and found this kit. I did a bit of research and figured out it wasn't much more to buy this kit rather than just one bell. So I bought it for the bell and got 3 bonus toys in my mind. It is great quality and I don't have to worry about her when she plays with it. It has been used and abused and still works and looks new. It is a good quality plastic that will hold up through years of torture from my daughter and any future kids!

In the end this kit is a great purchase that any baby would be happy with, and any parent can feel good and safe about their baby playing with any part of it.

My 9-Month old loves music and after taking Kindermusik classes I decided to buy this set for him. He can't stop ringing the caged bell and we have to take it away when it's time to eat or take a nap. All of the toys are durable and he picks them up with ease. So glad I got this set and didn't buy the individual pieces separately. I'm going to buy more of these as gifts.

We purchased this set for my daughter a few months ago. She loves it and it seems well made. She is now 7 months old and still loves playing with it. Today, we were running errands, and she was playing with the bell rattle in her car seat. She started crying hysterically, I looked back and she had the entire circular end of the rattle stuck in her mouth! The ridge where the bottom snaps on was stuck behind her gums. I pulled over and had to pry it out of her mouth. It took a layer of skin off under her tongue and on the inside of her bottom gums. It looks like a dime sized blood blister. I'm going to email the company and we'll be throwing away the rattle. They need to make this piece larger so babies cannot stick the whole thing in their mouths! I am adding a picture of the rattle.

My son was 10 months old when we purchased this item for him and he loves making noise with all the pieces. Since every baby is different, I think it unfair to lower the rating of this item if the child doesn't play with it regularly. I agree that the rainmaker is a little wide but our 10 month old had no problems picking it up and throwing it around. As another reviewer said, it also rolls great on the floor and makes lots of noise. The bell and the rattle both have handles, making those easier for children to grasp. The tambourine or clacker has a sideways handle and it took a few weeks for our son to figure this one out. If your baby likes to make noise, these are the perfect toy. Even if they can't figure it out immediately, give them time. Inevitably, if it makes noise our son figures out how to throw it!

Quality-wise these toys are great. Our son is a thrower (not sure how to stop that, taking advice!) and the toys have no scuffs, dents, etc. The carrying case is great for when we travel. Nice and compact. We're very happy with the quality and play value of this toy and would recommend to others. Thank you.

There are some major drawbacks to this set, but there are also elements that I really like. First, the toys are too big to be used by a baby. My son is 8 months and quite big for his age. The tambourine is completely unmanageable for him. The rainmaker is too fat for him to pick up but he can roll it on the ground, which he enjoys sometimes. The bell is easy to grasp for a baby but too heavy to shake well.

On the other hand, the rattle is just the right size for a 6-12 month old and my son really likes it. And I must admit that although the bell is heavy for my son, he loves it... If he catches a peek of the bell anywhere in the room, he will make a bee line for it. And he has now figured out that it is much easier to shake if he uses both hands.
