Gave two sets of these to my 5yo twin boys for Christmas. The squares got a little lost amidst the other big-ticket toys, but I brought these to the fore on a recent snow day and the boys have been busily building spaceships, apartment buildings, laser guns, traps for aliens, etc., ever since. There are no annoying little pieces to step on or lose (ahem, Legos), plus I don't have to be involved. For larger structures, we've found that little magnet clips (like those from Oxo) help to reinforce edges. One set doesn't get you very far, though, so order two sets to start.
