Bumkins Waterproof Junior Bib

Bumkins Junior Bib, BabyThis bib is absolutely fantastic! I've used other Bumkins bibs and have LOVED those too. However, my 14 month old daughter was able to pull them off and throw them on the floor while she was eating. This Bumkins Junior Bib gives more coverage and my daughter is unable to pull it off. This bib is a life (and clothes) saver!

I'm only giving this 4 stars because we never use the sleeves even though we need them. We definitely need the sleeve area of protected from food stains for our little one but it's just too much of a hassle putting the arms in. Besides that, this is the best bib i've used, and I've bought a lot of different bibs. Save your money, buy this one from the beginning. I bought cheap ones which would be hard to clean, would get stinky, the plastic would tear and scratch the baby and his clothes would still get dirty. Also, because this bib is not made of harder plastic, i can quickly slip it on my little guy before he has a chance to protest. And the patterns are so trendy! Just beware, these things are quite long. They come to my son's knees (he's 16 months old).

I bought these bibs for my twin grandchildren because their mother loved the long sleeved ones so much. With the weather so much warmer, long sleeves were sometimes too hot. We were disappointed to find these bibs have Velcro closures instead of the tie closures mentioned in the product description. (this is a quote from the description: "This full coverage bib features a catch all pocket and tie closure.") She prefers the ties because she has found that the Velcro doesn't hold as well after several washes. I hope they haven't made this a permanent change.

We own 3 Bumkins Waterproof Junior Bibs (Animal, Pet Parade, and another one I don't know the name of). We have used the Junior sized bib since our son was about 12 months old and we still use these bibs at 26 months. It still comes down almost to his waist at 36 inches tall. These bibs are a thin, soft plastic with arm holes, Velcro to attach it at the back of the neck, and a pocket in front to catch falling foods/liquids. The bib covers the front and sides of my skinny son's torso and his shoulders.

We have had no trouble with any of the bibs. We machine wash them after two or three days of use and just wipe off any excess in between. We used to clean with a soapy cloth when we first got them but we feel it isn't necessary now.

He does not mind putting his arms into it but he does have trouble taking it off by himself and is sometimes frustrated by it. He has started getting into his chair by himself, and if he is wearing the bib already then his knees often catch the bib and give him trouble getting into the chair. This is a recent development and was not an issue the first year we used these bibs.

Pros:

*Good coverage without being in the way.

*Water proof. We haven't thoroughly tested this thanks to sippy cups.

*Sturdy has never torn or cracked. Velcro has held up through many washes.

*Easy to clean wipe with a paper towel or rag, use soap if needed, machine wash. We even machine dry though it says not to on the label.

*Portable folds easily for stuffing into purse or large pocket. It is handy to take to a restaurant and fold the dirty side into itself so food and sticky bits don't get in Mommy's purse.

*Pocket at the bottom to catch falling food.

*Difficult for child to remove on their own.

*Fun prints encourages my kid to want to wear it and also served as an emergency distraction until he was old enough for crayons and other table toys (like my iPhone).

Cons:

*Large surface area may get in the way of climbing onto a chair/booth.

*Difficult for child to remove on their own.

Overall Mommy and I rate them 5/5 stars because of the coverage, folded size, and ease of cleaning as compared to cloth bibs.

As a mom of twins I only tend to like products that make my life simpler. These are my favorite bibs for three reasons:

1. No hand washing! This bib is truly machine washable and _does not_ have a plastic layer to crack and wear out like other cheaper bibs. Thus no replacement costs down the road. This make the higher investment up front well worth it. I have even accidentally put these bibs in the dryer and they are no worse for wear.

2. I love the themes! The Dr. Seuss themes are silly and my daughters can relate to them from their books. The other themes, dogs, farm, bugs, flowers are all bright and cheery. My daughters love to point to their bib and make their animal sounds.

3. They are huge! The bibs completely cover my daughters from neck to knee. (The twins are 16 months old.) This is especially handy when they are eating in their car seats on the go.
