I hate to select toys for our little boy, but I do not have to. My wife selects most and he gets an amazing number of gifts from well-meaning friends and relatives. One of the recent gifts is this Chicco remote-controlled robot. He enjoys seeing it wobble around and hearing it emit laughing and giggling sounds, electronic noises sounding like a defective R2D2 and flashing brightly-colored lights. It works somewhat like robot vacuum cleaners gong backward and forward in irregular patterns. He does not know how to operate it as yet so we operate if for him. It is a fun thing to diddle around with. The boy seems somewhat in awe and the cats run for cover. One of these days he will get onto how the remote control works and then his interest should pick up markedly. In any case, it is a rather weird toy. I would never choose it, but it was a gift and the boy seems to enjoy it.Gary Peterson

I bought this for my youngest daughter's 1st birthday. She & I became fans of Doctor Who during those late night feedings that are now mostly forgotten. But, the show remains. Not a DW fan? Doesn't matter. The R2D2 he came decades after the Daleks, but it wasn't a big deal 'rip off' more off an homage. ( sorry if that isn't perfect we aren't big sci fi fans here, but our baby is)
This is basically a baby robot. It has a cute little baby giggle, it tries to follow your instructions but makes baby type mistakes it is so adorable! Again, we're the only family I know with young kids who do not own movies like Star Wars, ET, Treasure Planet, Meet the Robinson'swe are not sci fi fans!
Judging from some reviews I've read on this, many people do not even have friends who are science fiction fanatics. We do know those folks.
Attention span of a 1 year old baby? Um, depends on the baby... If your 1 year old has an attention span lasting longer than 2 or 3 minutes...well that's unusual. A probably an exciting sign. My oldest child would lay down and watch the entire film the the Sound of Music at 18 months. Highly, unusual attention span. Other kids her age do not relate, including her siblings.
Not many kids are going to play with this for hours on end. Be happy! Because that adorable cutie pie, would soon drive you insane. And eventually wear down and break, simply from use.
My baby, " Stormageddon" (google it) , will be 2 tomorrow. Our baby "Dalek" ( Chicco Baby Space) is sitting on the living room floor as I type., amongst newer Christmas & Hanukah toys. It is still smiling, still giggles and still makes us very happy.
The simple remote control. At first, the brand new buttons were too hard for a 1 year old to press. But,,as she became stronger, and began to develop gross &'fine motor skills, she gained more control. which meant,,I,got to,play with the toy a lot less. :(
Also, at first, she loved it, was afraid of it, loved it... All part of her developmental process. But she did seem to recognize it as another 'baby'.
Her sisters, then 3 & 5, adored this as well. I put it up in fear of breakage youngest child, very cute, silly, toy. There was no need really,,.... it is very sturdy. Moves well on hard floors, slower on carpets like most rc toys.
Size? A little smaller than a soccer (football) I'd say. Bigger than I expected thankfully. It was a bit too much for a baby to carry, nothing for a toddler, again those developing motor skills are part of the reasons we buy different types of toys for our kids.
If you found this Chicco toyand you were interested enough to read the reviews. I suspect you'll love it as well.
It does not seem to be marketed to Americans. I haven't seen it anywhere else, and the name does seem like an odd mistranslation from another language.
I'm so glad it is still on the market! We have ceramic tile floors. I do not worry about this being dropped from a child's height, but I do worry about an adult dropping it.
Warning! If this is the first remote controlled device with wheels and you have a child with long hair, beware!
Not with this robot but with some crazy little,Zhu Zhu hamster,my oldest daughter got her hair caught in the wheel and we had to cut it out. My husband learned after that one time.
This means, that pet hair on the floor could also become stuck, lock up the wheels, and damage the toy.
We have an Australian Shepard in Florida. It is incredibly hard to keep 3 little girls happy and keep dog air of tile floors 24/7. Knock wood, so far our little baby robot is just fine.
