We were given one of these as a gift. Our baby loved it as soon as she learned to grasp. And she has slept with it every night since.

We have had to order two more because we have to wash them pretty frequently and needed to have a fresh one always ready.

The trunk and the tail of the elephant specifically are good for teething, and they've held up well in the wash.

If we're blessed with another baby ever, we'll get another "cozy" lovey from this brand, but this green elephant will always have a special place in the memories of our first born sleeping soundly at night.

My 2 year old was given one of these loveys when he was an infant, and he's had it with him ever since. I bought this one for my newborn, and now at three months, he's starting to reach for it and love it, just like his older brother did. It's so soft and can hold up to many, many washings. There are so many types of loveys to choose from too, so please give it a shot. Just make sure you buy more than one, as they can be easily misplaced and/or get very dirty. You should always have a backup on hand, just in case.

We currently own three of these cute little elephants. Over the 2 years of my daughter's life, we've owned and lost a couple additional ones. They have all received a lot of abuse (chewing, sucking, stomping, washing, etc.) as you'd expect from something like this. They've each held up extremely well no stitches have come loose; no fading has happened; they clean up easily; etc. Like other reviewers, we keep ours in constant circulation. After she received this as a gift and became extremely attached to it, I was delighted that I could get replacements. She can definitely tell if it's a clean version or a dirty version, so we involve her in giving it a "bath" in the washing machine (subbing a clean, dry one after the old, disgusting one is dropped in the wash). This is a wonderful toy that has a hugely positive place in my daughter's life. She loves it so much that I just bought the bear version for her little brother. We'll see if he loves it as much.

This was purchased for our newest baby. It is easy for him to grab onto (the ears, trunk, legs/arms, and tail all invite little hands to hold), it is very soft and doesn't irritate delicate skin, it soaks up drool and then can get tossed right in the washing machine. I would advise buying two so that there is one to wash and one to hold. We have only had it for a few months, so I can't comment on the long-term durability, but it seems to be well put together. As far as "educational" goes it doesn't need batteries, it doesn't have a grating mechanical voice that keeps yowling at the child long after they've moved on to something else, it isn't a "character" toy (and therefore can have lots of roles in imaginary play when the child is old enough to do so...instead of, for example, Cookie Monster play only involves saying "Me want cookie!"), it is soft and warm instead of cold and plastic... so it is a perfect toy for babies-young children.
