Melissa & Doug Stop Sign (Vehicles) Jumbo Puzzle

I have purchased Melissa and Doug items for 5 years now. The puzzles that I purchased for my daughter 3 or 4 years ago were actually solid wood. I just went to the closet and looked at them and the backs of both the puzzles and the puzzle pieces are wood. I purchased this one and several others for my 1 year old son. Several layers of these puzzles are now mdf fiberboard including the back layer of both the puzzle and the individual puzzle pieces. Only the core appears to be wood. If a baby puts this in his or her mouth, as most 1 year olds do, the fiber will swell or deteriorate. You can no longer wipe the surface with a damp washcloth as you could with a wood puzzle or the puzzle piece will be damaged. I am very disappointed with Melissa and Doug. I wonder how many of their other products are no longer solid wood.

It's true that the Melissa and Doug toys have gone down in quality over the years. The wood puzzles are now pressed wood, the colors are no longer painted completely on the pieces (only the top of the puzzle piece is painted), and the colors chip off much easier. However, the puzzles are still great for the kids, and the toy is more durable than any of those silly cardboard puzzles on the market. Recommended.

as every Melissa and Doug puzzle is! Love that this is in a stop sign shape, that makes it super cute. This is one of the more difficult large knob puzzles to master. Long lasting, you can probably pass it down to a sibling or other family member. Do not let the prices of these puzzles deter you.

THIS PUZZLE IS GREAT FOR INFANT/TODDLERS TO PUT TOGETHER! IT'S VERY EASY FOR THEM TO HOLD BECAUSE OF THE KNOB ON THE PUZZLE PIECE!

I like Melissa & Doug products, but I am a little disapointed with this puzzle. Their older products are made w/ 100% wood, but this is made out of fiber board. Also, my little guy enjoys chewing on the pieces and he has already messed up the pictures. That being said, the knobs are good for little fingers and the pictures are bright and eye catching.
