SPECIAL NOTE: WE HAVE HAD THIS FOR SEVERAL MONTHS AND IT SEEMS TO STOP WORKING BUT THE REAL REASON was that the soap in the water my son bathes in, covered the metal sensors and made it so that they didn't detect the presence of water. THE SOLUTION, just rub or scrape the metal sensors and VIOLA IT WORKS AGAIN! You just need to keep those cleanhowever you do it, doesn't matter, but that's how to keep it goin'.We bought this from somewhere other than Amazon without the benefit of seeing these reviews beforehand. From now on, I'll check here first! I am so frustrated with this toy that I wanted to come here and leave a review to warn other parents that this toy is not worth the money. It's only 15 bucks, but I would recommend spending that 15 dollars elsewhere.
This toy has little cups that you pour water into. When you do, it completes a circuit and plays music through a little speaker. As long as there is water flowing through one of the cups, the music continues. It has a "soft off loud" switch for the music, though the "soft" setting is kind of weird -it sounds more like it plays just the bass track of the loud music rather than turns the volume down. You hook the toy to your bathroom wall with suction cups.
That's how it is supposed to work, anyway. Ours never worked well. It was intermittent right from the start. I would pour water in it and sometimes it would play, sometimes not. Turning it off and on again a few times usually would kick start it into working. After a few minutes, though, it might cut out again. But I could usually get it restarted. We used to just leave the switch in the "on" position until one time when it started playing music randomly in the middle of the night (no water in it, of course). After that, we always turned it off when not in use.
After a week or two, it stopped working all together. I changed the batteries and it seemed to work about the same as it did when it was new (i.e., not all that great). Then after another week, it stopped working again and I could not get it started. I didn't think the batteries could possibly be dead again, but I pulled it off the wall to check... and one of the suction cups broke. It's going in the trash now.
On the plus side, our son loved it when it worked. As a one-year old, he's pretty easy to please. He thought the music was a fun surprise. But it was frustrating for both of us that this music "reward" sometimes wouldn't come even when he correctly poured the water in.
I would not recommend this toy. A nice idea, but very low quality manufacturing. Avoid it.
[EDIT I see from the other reviews that I was mistaken about the "soft" setting I mentioned above. Apparently, it was just playing a single instrument. Still, that doesn't change my feeling this isn't worth the money. Also, there's a review that says to clean the metal sensors to keep it working. I had thought maybe the metal sensors on mine were the reason ours wasn't working, so I always kept them clean. Yet it didn't seem to help. I suspect this toy is not as watertight as it needs to be for a bath toy, and something inside gets fried.]
Buy Little Tikes Bathtime Band Now
I bought this toy when my son was 1 1/2 and now he is turning 2. He enjoys scooping water into cups and pouring it out, so naturaly he loves this toy. Sometimes it does get a little boring though, because it is very repetitive. (scoop, pour, and the music plays). there is not much more to it than that. but it keeps my son busy, so I am content.I got this for my daughter and found that it did not work. I got a second one that worked at first and then stopped working when i took the demo plastic insert out. I was so mad that it did not work. We even hooked up a power tester to it and it worked when we had it hooked up. So just to see if it would work i tried putting soapy water in it. That worked it has worked well ever since. The only problem is the suction cups dont work.My daughter loves bath time and fish -so I thought how perfect is this toy! And like all the other reviews of this toy, ours didn't work either. In the begining, it intermittently worked at best, then quit working all together except at night when no water was present and the toy was left on. If you are looking to buy this toy -take your money elsewhere.
