Melissa & Doug Large Shapes Jumbo Puzzle

I just purchased this puzzle for my 16 month old daughter who enjoys it. However, the colors of the plug and the hole are supposed to match and they don't. Some are just very different shades and two are different colors altogether (purple versus blue/ orange versus red). Since color recognition is a fundamental aspect of this puzzle, this seems to be a significant flaw.

I also found as another reviewer did that the pieces don't seem to have been removed and cleaned after the jig cut them out. There is particle board dust that seems to keep wearing off with continued use even after it is cleaned with a damp cloth. This can be considered a small trade off for the price of the toy since it is so functional and educational.

However, the only concern I have with the dust is whether there are any chemicals from glue or other materials that might have some degree of toxicity. The pieces are in no way deteriorating of crumbling apart; there is just dust that my daughter found fascinating and began licking off her fingers.

The pegs to hold the pieces are perfect. The pieces fit well, not too loose, not too tight. I really like this puzzle for my daughter and hope that I can get it exchanged for one that has accurately corresponding colors.

We have a lot of different puzzles for our daughter and this is our favorite. The background is simple and doesn't distract from the placement of the pieces. The wooden knobs are easy for her to grasp and the pieces are simple shapes and colors that she can recognize and easily put where they belong. She's learning colors and shapes from our "play" with this puzzle and doesn't get frustrated with it like she does with some other puzzles. I highly recommend this puzzle.

We were so happy to have received this as a gift for our daughter. However, there is not one piece that correctly goes into place. The circle, which you would assume would be the easiest piece to place (since there are no edges) is the hardest to place, because of the notch that was made to cut out the circle. The remaining pieces (excluding the oval and rectangle) should fit in any direction, however they are only cut to fit one way. For instance, the square (4 right angles) should fit in any direction, but it only fits one way. We are highly disappointed in this company.

While this puzzle is educational and my 1 year old daughter loves to play with it, it is NOT solid wood as the manufacturer claims. It is made with particle board. It came full of saw dust, too. The pictures are like stickers and I can already see them peeling off after 1 week bc my daughter puts the pieces in her mouth. What 1 year old doesn't? If it was actually ALL solid wood and painted with non-toxic paint, it would be better and I would have given it 4 or 5 stars then.

My 13 month old son loves this, but I unfortunately have to echo the comments that it's poorly made. The saw dust went away after a bit, and I can live with the fact that the pieces can sometimes be difficult to put in, but the biggest problem is that my son is chewing the paper off the top of the pieces. It's kind of shocking actually, that they would manufacture a product that could be chewed away so easily when the product is geared toward children that are likely to put things in their mouths! I'll probably end up throwing it out shortly, but I'm hoping to find a replacement from a different company before I do. Bottom line is that I would never buy this again or gift it to anyone I cared about.

LeapFrog Learning Friend™ Lily

My daughter is 23 months old and Lily doesn't really keep her attention. We have a Hug and Learn Baby Tad and he is a fave. Since my daughter just learned how to count to 10 I thought Lily would be a hit. She was for about 5 minutes. You hug her to get her to sing and she sings a silly song about numbers. Her book has the numbers 1-10 in it with different objects to corelate to the number. The numbers on her can not be pressed to name those numbers or light up a response. She'll only sing this song when you hug her. The only plus is you can switch it to Spanish. My daughter counts to 5 in Spanish (with the exception of cuatro which she can't say) so she really enjoys the song in Spanish and I hope it will reinforce the Spanish #'s for her. If I had to I wouldn't buy this again. If your child is old enough to press the buttons then I reccomend Hug and Learn Baby Tad who teaches colors, shapes, sings and will blow a kiss and say I love you. This might be better for children 1 and under since you don't have to push the buttons to hear it play and it is a smaller size. It still isn't worth the price.

My 13 mo old loves this. Her older sister has the big Lily frog and she so wants to play with it, but it is too big for her and the buttons too hard for her to manipulate. This toy you can just hug or push lightly on the tummy to make it work. She likes to point with me as I count with the doll on the attached cloth book. I like the Spanish part too. There is a volume control button on the box under the velcro in the back. This is helpful! Great toy. It would be nice if you could push different parts of it to get a response, but she is happy with it.

I think the point of this toy that everyone is missing is the parent. The parents are suppose to sit down with your child and count the items in the book and teach them how to count. All the items are different colors so you can teach them colors as well. We don't have Lily, we have Tad, but it is just like this. This is isn't a toy you can stick with your child and go drink your coffee. It is a child and parent interactive toy. Parents have to interact and teach. It is a teaching tool for Parents. Get involved!

This Lily is awesome. My 9 month old daughters eyes lit up when she first saw her. She got so excited and laughed when Lily spoke to her. The buttons are easy to push, even for my daughter. I especially like this toy because it speaks Spanish also. My husband is Peurto Rican and toys like the Learning Friend Lily will hopefully help her to become bilingual.

The First Years Disney Pooh Peek & Teethe Crinkle Book

My son was absolutely enraptured with this book before he showed interest in any other toys. The crinkling of the pages would always catch & keep his attention, and it was the first thing he could interact with & get a response. It went everywhere we went, until it got lost at daycare one day... I am buying another of these for #2 (on the way), as this is a diaper bag essential!

We actually got this crinkle book as a gift from a Disney set (from Sam's Club, I think) and our son LOVED it as a baby. It was one of two toys we always gave him when he was in the car seat. When he was really young (3-6 months or so) we would hang it from the car seat handle, and now that he's older (6-13 months), we just hand it to him. We just love hearing the "crinkle crinkle" from the back seat when we're out and about. He plays with it and chews on it and it still looks almost brand new. I agree with another reviewer that it's more of a toy than a book, but I still can't wait for him to be able to read it! I highly recommend this book.

This is a cute, bright little book (emphasis on little, there is a cover page, one page in the middle, and the back cover page) that my three-month-old likes. I think it is overpriced online; I bought mine at a well-known supercenter store for $4.80. The crinkle pages and little flaps that fold down are interesting to baby, and the dialogue is simple enough that my two-year old nephew had it down after two readings--he was thrilled that he could "read" this book to his baby cousin. I'm hopeful that my baby will like the teether pages (both the cover and the back page have the plastic teether parts) once she starts cutting teeth. I'm very happy with my purchase, but again, I bought mine for about half of what this item is listed.

I feel bad for the previous reviewer who needs to return their shipment of this Snuffles line. This bear is extremely adorable if hand picked from a store. Unfortunately, its hard to purchase online as the crafting may be thwarted. If you want to hand pick your snuffles, its best to go to a store that carries the physical copy. I found mine in the kids section of a bookstore that is to remain nameless. Good luck in searching

My 2 year old daughter absolutely loves this toy! She is a whiz at it. She plays with it for hours. She is so excited when she plays this. She got it last year for her birthday and is still playing with it 6 months later. It so cute. It helped her learn different foods and words. If she can't find the right thing to make one of the recipes, it gives her hints to find the right food groups...helping her learn her colors too! I can't say enough good things about this toy! If I could I would nominate it for a toy of the year award!

We were very excited about this toy a relative who is a chef gave it to my 2 1/2 year old daughter for Christmas 2009. The toy seemed to work, in that it responds when the child puts the different pieces in the mixer. However after hearing my child get lots of "try again" type responses, I tried it myself. It didn't work as intended. The toy doesn't recognize the pieces/foods well. A third of the time it doesn't "see" a piece at all, a third of the time it thinks it's a different food, and a third of the time it correctly "sees" the food. Because of this, it is impossible to play the game of making certain foods by mixing and matching the pieces.

It was also difficult to tell if you were pushing the pieces in properly sometimes it would respond just to lightly push them into the spot, other times you'd have to push hard until it clicked in. How the item was pushed in did not improve the toy's accuracy at "seeing" the foods.

I would have given this one star, but since I didn't follow up with the manufacturer, I will give it a little benefit of the doubt that we just had a defective toy.

When I was majoring in education, I bought a bunch of books for my classroom. I bought this book because I thought it would be a creative way to teach SHAPES.

Each page has a little 4 line rhyme that really got my attention. It was kind od sing-songy and describes the shape.

The pictures are very bright and colorful. The pictures are also of the shape the poem was about.

The best way to encourage a child to read is to have books in the home.

Julie Aigner-Clark is a genius! Her inventive products, exceptionally creative, are designed to entertain children while they learn. "See and Spy Shapes," is no exception. The cleverly written text is metrical in style, and teaches shapes and counting in an imaginative way through "seeing and spying", the object by means of example. For instance, the reader sees a rabbit sitting in a garden with various items scattered about, and the poem on the left side of the book reads, "A CIRCLE is a crazy thing it has no sides, just one round ring. You'll see a CIRCLE on my nose now find five more beneath my toes." The FIVE circles beneath the rabbit's toes are: a radish, a head of lettuce, an onion, a bug, and a watermelon.

Each page of this little board book features a different poem, animal, and shape. Additional shapes include: triangle, square, oval, rectangle, star, and diamond. The illustrations are brightly colored, and are highly contrasted to the background, creating emphasis to stimulate babies interest, while providing lessons on shapes, numbers and counting, colors, animals and other everyday objects for preschoolers. Even when my baby was under one month old, he would stare at the colorful pictures on the pages-he would stare at the left page and then the right. I knew the book was stimulating his growing brain and I was giddy with excitement!! Now that my baby is 8 months old and he likes to hold the book himself, I appreciate the rounded corners and thick cardboard pages (so baby won't get paper cuts). My baby likes to gnaw on the book so I guess it's also a great teething toy!

The colors, style, and theme of this book are excellent. It is one of the few I found that is simple enough for toddlers just beginning to identify shapes. However, I found it to have a huge flaw. The shapes inside the book are "puzzle pieces". For example, there is a picture of a baseball, and underneath the baseball is the word circle. Except instead of lifting a flap, each of the cardboard shapes actually comes out of the book. They don't reinsert easily. I can just imagine after one or two readings that the pieces would be everywhere but in the book.

Sassy Boogie Board Buddie Bath Toy, Colors May Vary

I was in a mad rush to get some new tub toys for my 3 kids, so I saw this and just plopped it in my shopping cart. When I brought it home it seemed nice enough, but then I saw some news story about bath toys and them being completely gross inside if they ever hold water. And of course this one does. So I threw away all the tub toys that have holes in them and now stick with regular things like boats or even kitchen utensils (nothing sharp, something like measuring spoons or soft spatulas). It's just not worth the risk of having them chew on moldy toys.

Sassy is a good company known for use of safe plastics. This particular bath toy has knockoffs sold at walmart for the same price, but colored entirely red. The temperture gauge thing is cool, but any responsible parent would never use it. I know my sister doesn't. Bought this for my baby neice and she loves it as much as a 10-month-old can love a bath toy. This bath toy also seems to fill up with water to squirt easier than her other bath toys. Good price for a good toy with the surprise of getting either the hippo or the turtle. She got a hippopotamus for christmas.

I purchased this toy as a Christmas present for my baby niece. I bought it for the cute factor and to color coordinate with another gift. The hot indicator seemed like a neat feature. It is a squirty toy (which many reviewers on here dislike because of the mold issue), but I think it should be fine, my niece is just a baby and her parents will be using this for the indicator more than anything. They can always throw it out when it gets yucky, this toy isn't that expensive :-)

I saw this elephant while visiting FAO Schwartz in NYC. I immediately fell in love with it for my 6 month old grandaughter. I was excited to see it on Amazon.com and ordered it right away.. When i received it, i was disappointed that the handle behind the ears was broken. After speaking with a great customer service representative, i decided when they came back in stock after Christmas, I would re-oder a replacement. Unfortunately, the replacement came damaged, as well. ( it was torn, one rocker was loose and the head wasn't well connected.) I love the look of this elephant, but it is definitely not worth the money, even with the sale price i paid. I decided not to go for the third replacement. Customer service is exceptional, but product quality was less than mediocre and i wouldn't recommend this for purchase.

North American Bear Company Baby Long Legs Puppy Squeaker, 8"

I purchased this toy from Amazon based on a recommendation from the independent consumer review group The Oppenheim Toy Portfolio. They have quite the list of toy recommendations for babies and their review for the 8-inch version of this toy sounded good.

Well, it's an adequate toy but my 22 week doesn't have any interest in it yet. It's surprising that he doesn't even want to grab it to put it in his mouth, as he will put most anything in there at this stage. I'm reviewing this after one month of use, so he was about 4.5 months when I presented him with it. I'm giving it a high review though, based on the quality and potential appeal to other babies (would also make a cute little gift for an adult). Also, it came recommended from the aforementioned toy review group so maybe other kids would take to it and when my son gets older he might like it more.

It's smaller than a beanie baby type of stuffed animal, and thinner. It's the appropriate size for a baby and the skinny legs and floppy ears certainly make it easier to grasp, but it's a pretty high price at 12 bucks for such a small little guy. The quality is there though, so I don't totally regret the purchase, and the black and white colors are prefect for a baby. If my son suddenly takes a shining to it I'll update my review, but where it stands now, not one of my best toy purchases.

These toys are wonderful and my son started following the cow toy when he was only 3 weeks old with his eyes. Now he is bigger and he likes to chew on everything. He started to chew on the chicken, and the shape of the chicken's feet are angled and it gagged him and he threw up. I would recommend the other toys though. They are bright and fun and easy for baby to hold.

I hung them on a toy that I got for the baby when he lays down and looks up he can see them hanging. They are nice bright colors and attach easily and stay attached.

My daughter got two sets of these toys as gifts from other parents whose babies loved them. She loves them as well! The piggy is perfect for infants who are just learning to grab at objects because it has smaller things to grab. The cow and chicken are a bit larger, perfect for when they can grab at slightly larger objects. And the best part-they are MACHINE WASHABLE!!!! I highly recommend this set for any newborn or infant, and I get this set for all of my friends who are having babies :)

Fisher-Price Brilliant Basics Corn Popper Push Toy

We purchased this toy for our son when he was learning to walk (at 9 months of age) and now he's 15 months old and still loves it. It's his favorite toy of all. He pushes it, pulls it, bangs the floor with it, chases the cats with it, gives it to me to push while he watches the "popcorn" pop and even this morning he was sliding it on the dome instead of on it's wheels. YES, it is noisy and it's not fun to have in the background while trying to talk on the phone, but it keeps a busy toddler happy! I wouldn't recommend it as a "learning to walk" toy because it's not 100% stable but for someone who is stable already, I'd highly recommend it!

I just had to write a review after the negative comments I've read. Yes, it can be noisy (but if he's having fun, I'm happy). Yes, a child could run over your feet with it (my son did until we told him it hurt and wasn't nice). However, of all the toys my son has received, this is one he keeps going back to. It was a Christmas gift when he turned one and as soon as he perfected walking, the popper quickly became his favorite toy. He pretended it was a vaccum cleaner (complete with his own sound effects). And more recently it became a weed wacker (again with sound effects). He really uses his imagination with it. He's now 2 and he still takes it out to do a little poppin'. I believe as long as they are having fun and its safe go with it! Also, it's inexpensive enough that if your child isn't thrilled with it, at least its not a big investment.

I look for toys that grow with my child, encourage creativity and are versatile. I prefer toys that are fairly quiet, easy to use and lots of fun. I want a toy that has more than one button to push.

Let me stress that this is not a quiet toy!

However, all the other expectations in a toy are met through this toy. The child can be as imaginative and creative as he/she wants with this toy. This has been a popcorn machine, a part of our family band, a vacuum cleaner and more. My son who is two still wants to play with it.

This is not a walkerin other words, it is not to help your child walk, this is a toy for playing with while you walk.

This toy is an old classic that has held on through the years because it's plain, simple fun that still appeals to toddlers and preschoolers of the Barney generation. For imaginative toddlers and preschoolers who want to "be like mom and dad" it can be a vacuum cleaner, a lawn mower, and other grown-up toys. My toddler's eyes light up when she hears the popping noise. Yes, it's a bit loud, but it's nostalgic for me and I know she's having a good time.

Unlike some other push toys, this one requires a toddler to be somewhat steady on his or her feet because there's nothing to lean on. For this reason, this is a slightly later push toy than some of the others that have four wheels (for a good stable early push toy, try the VTech Little Smart First Steps Plus it's very stable and solid and will give your little one something to lean on as he or she is taking those early steps).

This toy can be either pushed or pulled. It does require that the child keep the handle in the proper angle. There is a fairly wide range of angles that work, but if the handle gets too vertical (straight up and down) the toy has a tendency to start going backwards into the child, which may send the child over the top of the popper onto the ground. This was only a problem for my daughter early on as she was learning to use this toy, but it's something to watch for when an early walker starts using it.

Overall a great toy and a classic!

Discovering Language Sorting Boxes

I Love these great boxes!! Be careful to watch the stitching as a few of them are loose on mine but have not come apart even under some heavy usage.. Great product
