Bright Starts Having a Ball Get Rollin Activity Table

My 9 month old has had this table for 2 months so far.. and I'm embarrassed to say that she plays with it for hours a day, though not all at one sitting. I researched the Fisher Price and V-Tech version of similar tables (and watched my daughter play with them at friends' houses) this one is so much better! It seems like there are more activities than the others. We started without the legs, added them a month ago. She loves it both ways, and we'll probably take the legs off again soon just to change things up.

As another reviewer mentioned, the functionality switches between "play" and "learn" mode by flipping the page of the book. There are so many melodies (English and Spanish too) that even after hearing it daily, my husband and I still think we're hearing new songs. We don't find them annoying at all. Actually, to correct the other reviewer, the "red triangle", "blue circle", etc audio corresponds to the buttons of the caterpillar that are the corresponding color and have that shape on them. It's pretty obvious if you sit down and play with your child.

The alligator mouth covers a compartment that is great for hiding the balls or puffs/Cheerios. My little girl loves to find things there. She even knows the sound associated with the alligator door and comes crawling to look for food if she hears it. One of the smartest things that Bright Starts did was to make the 1,2,3 buttons so that they click and pop out. It's hard to describe, but it's different than just pushing a button the child gets feedback and it's easier to operate. Initially, my baby couldn't figure out how to push buttons on any of her toys. These were easier for her to manipulate and seemed to help her figure out the "cause and effect" of the other buttons.

Of course, the ball slide is a huge part that sets this table apart from the others. We have so much fun watching her try to stop the balls from falling into the hole and then chasing them around after the come out of the leg. The balls are the perfect size for little hands, too. It comes with six 2 each of red, yellow and blue.

The toy will automatically play a random tune about 30 seconds after the last button/activity was activated. At first we thought it was broken. We were wrong it's actually genius. I cannot count how many times my kid has gotten fussy or wandered away from the toy and been drawn back by that reminder song. Just so you know, it's on purpose! We honestly thought it was haunted the first few nights when it would play songs after we had cleaned up even though no one was playing with it.

At 9 months, she has not yet mastered the yellow spinner or the gear-like activity. She also doesn't reliably let the balls go down the slide on purpose. Due to this, I foresee her playing with this for at least another year if not longer. It's really been a lifesaver since she became mobile and hated being constrained by her jumper. I will say that I got this around the holidays for around twenty-four bucks. I think the Amazon price is a little high because, according to the packaging, this model is made just for Toys R Us. You should be able to find it for significantly less there.

There are quite a few of these sit-to-stand activity tables on the market and I've had the opportunity to see the other brands that my friends own. I ultimately chose this one because it had an extra element of fun. While the little light up, noise-making, turny toys on the top (similar to all the others models) are interesting for a few minutes, the real fun comes with the ball drop. It works likes a billiards table. You first drop or roll the ball down through the center hole (creating fun noises in the process). The ball then ends up dropping down one of the four legs of the table. This is by far my 1 year old son's favorite part of this toy. I'm not sure how long he would remain interested had this feature not been included. The only problem I have encountered is that occasionally the ball gets 'stuck' inside. It's an easy fix (throw something else in after it) and my son doesn't even seem to notice. His second favorite thing would be opening and closing the alligator's mouth and hiding the balls inside. He loves to open and close things. As the prior reviewer stated, it is a nice feature that you can switch from English to Spanish. I am really happy that we decided to get this one!

My mother gave this toy as a gift for my son when he was 10 months old. It's become his favorite toy. He loves to walk around it and spends a lot of time dropping the ball in the middle and looking for where the ball comes out. Ir definitely encourages him to stand and cruise and I really like that it has Spanish and English options for the sound and music. GREAT toy, I don't know what we'd do without it.

My 7-month-old received this as a gift and we both love it. It's sturdy enough for her to pull herself up on easily and it's the perfect height for standing and playing. She's not too interested in rolling the balls yet but she loves all of the songs, lights, and buttons. We've had it for two weeks and so far the sounds haven't driven me totally crazy, probably because there's so many of them so it doesn't get too repetitive. The "Circle, triangle, diamond, square they all make a happy pair" song does irritate me a bit every time I hear it since four items do not, in fact, make a pair, but other than that most of the songs are pretty tolerable.

In any case, this toy is currently the only way I can get anything done while my daughter is awake, so it's a winner in my book. I'd imagine that as she gets older the educational aspects of it will be helpful too. It has pretty much all of your preschool bases covered: colors, shapes, the alphabet, etc. Heck, it even has them in Spanish. I can't recommend this table highly enough!

UPDATE 1: I have to remove a star after an incident today. My daughter got the tip of her finger caught between the page of the "book" and the yellow light-up button as she was using that hand to steady herself while trying to sit down on the floor. Thankfully I was right there and got her unstuck quickly but she still really smushed her finger and was clearly in a lot of pain. I definitely wouldn't let a baby play with this unsupervised!

UPDATE 2: After 2.5 months of use, the electronics have gone haywire. It started having occasional audio glitches about a month ago and it's gotten progressively worse until today the thing stopped working altogether. Now when I turn it on it just makes a buzzing sound and none of the buttons do anything. This is a real bummer, my daughter loves the sounds and lights and I thought she would get a lot more use out of it :(

I purchased this table for my son from Target. He began showing an interest in standing very early, but I made him wait until he could crawl well before I would really start supporting his standing. I had been eyeing this activity table in the store for months! I was so happy when it was time to bring it into our house! We got it one afternoon while he was visiting his aunt. When he came home, it was all set-up and waiting for him. He had the BIGGEST smile on his face when we stood him up and showed him to put the balls in the chute. The next day, I was cleaning up and I noticed some smudges in the yellow coloring, where the balls fall into the center of the table. Out of curiosity, I reached my hand into it and touched one. Turns out, it disappeared. It was dirt. It was in the track where the balls were rolling. The same balls that my child plays with, using his hands and his mouth. I had to take it out of his sight until I had a chance to disassemble it and clean it out. I have pictures of the dirt. It is pretty unacceptable and neglectful to just not clean a part. The cardboard and the top of the table were not dirty, it was only the inside. I will be much more hesitant with my Bright Starts purchases in the future.

Infantino Vibrating Grape Teether

As a Mom of four, I have tried a great number of different baby products along the way. None of my children will take the water-filled teethers whether kept cold in the fridge or at room temperature, and seem to not understand what the regular textured teethers are for, but since being given this vibrating teether on baby number two I've wondered where it has been all this time! Each child that has tried it loves it! As soon as they figure out how to bite it to make it vibrate, the grumpies go away and they actually break out into a smile! Anything that can turn a fussy, crying, teething baby into a happy, occupied, smiling, teething baby has got this Mom smiling too! This teether is great for infants, but don't get rid of it too soon; I've had toddlers go back to this toy/teether when getting in their back molars after having not used it for several months. The relief it brings to baby's gums and Mommy's ears make this teether worth it at any price!!

I don't know about it for babies, but if you have a sensory child or a child on the autistic spectrum it is a must-have. My son has sensory issues and chewing on this provides a good amount of stimuli for him; he finds it very soothing and it's one of the first things I reach for when it's nap or bed time. His OT recommended it and it's a great purchase. Online it seems to be more expensive than I found it in the store though, weird!

Munchkin Wonder Waterway Bath Tub Toy

I love how the only two five star reviews are from people who ordered it to give as a gift and have never even seen the toy in use! Uh...does it help anyone to know that it looks like the picture? We received this as a gift, from someone who thought it looked fun. It does look fun.

This toy doesn't work, and it never has worked for us.

The idea is cute: fill up the cup on top, and it will trickle down causing the top section to whirl, the middle section the move little balls around, and the final section to spin. On ours, only the penguin part works. Our penguin stays up pretty well, so it can collapse if you want it to, but you can also watch the interior twirl. It does twirl a little, kind of slowly.

If you fill the middle section, it has trouble filling, and then it has trouble draining. The balls do nothing. It does rattle when empty, but...this is a bath toy that doesn't do anything special in the water.

If you fill the bottom section, it drains out the bottom. The thing in the middle does not spin.

If you keep the pieces connected, on ours, the top twirls minimally. Nothing else happens at all. If you separate the pieces, the starfish part in the middle drains with a pattern. Sometimes. If the water doesn't get stuck. The fish on bottom still does nothing.

I think we're probably just going to throw this away. If you're considering buying this (for your kiddo or as a gift) save your money or buy something else. Anything else. Worst Bath Toy Ever!

I bought these in a large retail store for my son, who really had no bath toys. He is the third child and most of the toys we had were just plain gross and we threw them out. He went crazy for this toy when he saw it in the package and it was reasonably priced, so I bought it.

This was fun for the first bath, but after that, it really didn't work anymore. The parts do drain well, which is very nice. However, if they get any soap stuck in them from bubbles, etc, the inside pieces get stopped up and will not turn. The pieces still float, are easy to find in the tub and can be shaken, etc, but the main point of the toy is lost.

The penguin piece collapses when it is not being held up so that the spiral is not showing most of the time. This was not a problem, really, it is just not clear in the picture.

I purchased this because my son was getting bored of his "baby" toys in the bath tub. He really loves water coming out of things and I figured he'd like to see things spin when water went through them. Unfortunately these toys don't really do much. If you have them pulled apart they work better than when they're together. Not sure if this is meant to sit under the faucet, but when you fill the top one with water, it doesn't do anything for the whole toy.

Manhattan Toy Brilliant Bear Magnetic Stack-up

My son is turning 1 next month and he really likes this toy. I stack it for him and he knocks it down. He chews on the pieces and they are very durable, the paint doesn't chip and it doesn't show teeth marks. Now we have a game were I try to get it stacked before he can knock it down. We go back and forth like that and honestly it's fun for me too. We have electronic toys that light up and play music but I honestly think he prefers this, we can play with it for a long time without him getting bored. Also it's very attractive and bright. I think it would make a nice display piece on a shelf too.

Tiny Love Take-Along Arch

I love that I can tighten this arch to just about anything and it has multiple joints that allow me to manipulate it's placement while it's attached. My daughter loves it. I've attached it to her swing, car-seat, stroller, highchair and I even was able to straighten it and attach it to her crib. I wish more products as diverse as this one would become available.

I give this product 5 *'s and I recomend it to anyone and everyone w/babies.

I'm giving it only 3 stars because it seems since the original creation of this toy, tiny love brand have decided to cut a bit on the creation budget and have removed some little details, as the fleece on the wheel, the little colored accents on the sun, the textured fabric on the flower...etc...

so, I do recommend it, but don't be exited by the great details...you won't have them...

This arch has a really secure and easy to use attachment mechanism, and some snappy bal joints that let you position it firmly forward and backward, and even adjust the height. I have owned the cloth covered ones from tiny love also with glorified clothespin ends which don't stay attached very well, and can say that this plastic version is much much nicer. To compare, those arches came with musical wind up mobiles which this doesn't, but who needs music on a mobile when you have an ipod.

The toys on this are fascinating to my 3 mo old twins. They both love the rattly ball attached to the propeller, and love spinning the propeller, though they don't quite know how to pull the ball strongly enough to make the propeller go -but they do try, and grab at the ball all the time. They also gaze through the transparent prismatic " sun" plastic, and one of them loves batting at the spinning ball in the butterfly. The extra hanging toys on the sun, and butterfly are hung on with velcro, so later on you could swap them out with other toys that could loop through. I think though that the propellor will go a long way with mechanical minded babies. One toy so far where I wouldn't change a thing.

My son loved this toy for a couple of months, and it fit nicely on our bouncy seat. As an educator, I appreciated the cause and effect concept this toy developed, and my son thoroughly enjoyed playing with it, but because it is dangerous we felt it deserved 1 star. Recently my 3 month old son was playing with the arch and, the string to the fan became wrapped around his finger cutting off his circulation causing his finger to turn purple. Though I was right next to him and looking at him when this happened, it took me a minute to figure out what was happening because he didn't cry. I just happened to notice he was looking at his finger. I immediately unwrapped the cord, and then he cried. He had a red mark around his finger for 24 hours. I contacted Tiny Love and they replied to my emails quickly and offered me free toys, while they looked into the matter. After 11 days, I have no reassurance that this won't happen to other babies, so I wanted to alert other parents via Amazon. Since this toy is meant to go over strollers and activity seats, parents may not always have their attention directly on the baby. Even though I was right there with my child, I felt we narrowly avoided more serious injury if his circulation was cut off for any length of time.

Everywhere I look I see parents are getting ready for back to school.....I know it's still summer so why are we even thinking about school?! My son is still to young for school however he does need some new pants and since he is still growing, in order to save money I always like to get him pants that are bigger for him. got these for my boys. Only because there is a story behind trains in our growing family. Its how mommy and daddy met 11 years ago. Well. 5 years later on July 27, 2012 we are getting married and I love teaching my boys this story so they can grow up to tell to their kids someday. These are really neat idea. They even work great for holding lots of paper together. Also very great for our rainy state 9 months a year to keep those pants dry and my kids happy. I very much like the concept of this product. They work well to hold up the hem of my son's pants. However, after about 4 days of use, the rubber 3-d train design started to come unglued from the clip. I have to reglue the design to keep from losing it.

Lamaze Sydney and Sandy Kangaroo

I gave this to my daughter as soon as it arrived and she immediately fell in love with it (she's almost 10 months). The crinkly parts and jangling plastic pieces were very entertaining for her, and she loves it when my husband squeezes it to make it squeak. The Lamaze toys are awesome; we have the musical octopus toy and a few others as well. The hold up well and our daughter just loves them.

Really, this whole line of toys is very cute, but I especially liked the kangaroo and panda. I decided on the kangaroo for my 3 month old daughter and she loves it. The colors and patterns really hold her interest and she "talks" to it. She's just starting to grab hold of the crinkly ears. It's also nice that it attaches easily to her crib, stroller, car seat--really everywhere. And whenever people see it, they are always saying what a neat toy it is. It really was a good buy.

My 5 1/2 month old daughter has enjoyed this toy since I first handed it to her at about 4 months. It has crinkly cellophane under all the non-red surfaces, so there is a quiet bit of noise there, and the rings on the tail make a gentle rattle. The best part, though, is that there are thick parts and thin parts, so there are plenty of good grab points, and the ears, nose, tail, and feet are all good (and apparently qualitatively different) spots for mouthing. The toy overall is a good size--not hard to find, but small enough for the average diaper bag. My only complaint is that I would like for the tether between the toy and the clip to be longer or stretchable. It is not as easy for my baby to manipulate when clipped to her stroller straps as I would like. Otherwise, highly recommended!

My son loves this toy. He has a Pup squeak and a Mortimer moose as well, and although he likes both he reaches for the Sydney much more often. He may enjoy the Pup squeak when he gets a bit older and can make it bark on his own, however.

Haba Dragonstone Castle

My son received this for his first birthday, and we love it! The castle has so many interesting features: a door that opens and closes, a bug and little man that slide along ropes, trees that rustle, a chicken that hides in a pocket, mirrored windows, and one see-through window. The princess and knight will be great for pretend play as my son gets older, and he thinks the dragon is great! He makes a unique rattling noise when shaken, and his head and tail wobble back and forth. My son would have enjoyed this toy earlier than 12 months, and I know it will be played with throughout his toddler years. A fantastic toy for creative play.

***Update: Now my son is almost 3 and we play with this castle frequently. The dragon often chases the princess and knight into their castle; however, when he is feeling nice, the dragon offers them rides on his back. This is a wonderful toy for pretending! My son is developing a fascination with things that verge on "scary" (dragons, ghosts, wolves, dinosaurs), and this toy allows him to create pretend scenarios that explore a slightly darker theme with such happy little characters so appropriate and not-too-scary for a young preschooler.

My kids love this toy! I have a baby and a toddler, and this was intended as a gift for the baby, who's nearly 8 months old. Turns out, the 3-year-old loves it too. Lots of imaginative play going on here, fun possibilities for storytelling and more. Plus, squeaky/crinkly/shiny stuff to entertain the baby. Very nice product.

I bought this for my daughter when she was 5 months old. She's almost 4 now with a 9 month old sister and this toy has never left the toy shelf it is continually played with by my daughters as well as anyone who visits boy or girl (even by me) :-). It takes up minimal space (I suggest you keep the packaging for storage) and easily transportable on car and plane rides to Grandma's house and elsewhere. SO GLAD I ran across it on Amazon as I know nobody else with this toy and have never seen it again since I bought it originally.

We bought this as a gift for my niece on her first birthday. She was interested in it right away. There are lots of great moving pieces on the castle and the dragon has a cute segmented body -the adults in the room couldn't resist playing. Yes, I got what I paid for, but it wasn't what I hoped for at all. The quality of this item is poor, the ball doesn't stay together and it is and the plastic is thin. I wish I had paid the extra bucks for a better quality toy.

My 21 month old love this toy. He can take it apart and put it back together. He learned where the shapes go in a matter of a few days. We have other shape sorters and this one he plays with for hours.

I purchased this after reading the only rating on this item at the time which was a 5 star review. The ball will not stay together. Its so weak the baby pulls it right apart. It doesn't stay together long enough for the baby to put the shapes in the slots. This was a waste of money but at least it didn't cost much. Invest in a more expensive sorter that stays in shape.

My 6 month old loves this, but I was very disappointed when I opened the box, it's a lot smaller than I imagined from looking at the picture, maybe they should show a picture of a baby holding it so you can see how small it is.

This is my daughter's LEAST favorite I think I bought it when she was around 3-4 months old and even now at 8 months she really doesn't want anything to do with it. I'm not 100% sure what it is, but if I had to guess I would say that it's not very easy for a baby to hold. The "nubs" are crinkly but they are stuffed pretty tight and you can't really squeeze them. Plus the rubber tubing loops are just too narrow for small hands to grab. When you squeeze the "whoozit" face it does squeek, but a baby doesn't have the dexterity/strength to do that until they're older.

i thought baby would be much more interested in this. it's colorful and easy to grab -but for some reason, it's a non-starter.

Green Sprouts Velour Rattle Toy Elephant 1 Toy

I bought for this toy not knowing how big it would be, and was surprised by the actual size. It's little-maybe five inches in height. The rattle sound is good, though, and it is made from very soft cotton velour. I honestly would recommend it for the price, which is much less than what it retails for at my local baby store. Green Sprouts makes pretty decent toys, but I like Under the Nile better.

Viking 15-Piece Chubbies Bucket

We bought some of the slightly larger chubbies at a store and I've been looking for more. I took a leap of faith based on the above reviews and was rewarded. The tub contained:

2 planes with propellers and wheels

I got this for my son on his first birthday, and it's the best thing I've ever bought for him. He adores these vehicles. He'll roll them across the coffee table, spin the propellers on the aircraft, bring the boats in the bathtub....totally worth the money. It's hard to find toy cars/vehicles approved for kids as young as 12 months and I have no doubt he'll being playing with these for years to come.

Chubbies are the best toy vehicles! They roll very well, are durable, and good for young kids. Our one and two-year-old love these. Much better than other small-kid cars/vehicles out there.

If you're sick and tired of every toy you buy your kids beeping and flashing constantly then this is the toy for you. The bucket contains an assortment of vehicles: a small train, several cars and trucks, an airplane, and a helicopter. Most of them snap together to form a train. Despite appearing cheap and fragile they are actually quite durable and can easily stand getting whipped across the room or at the nearest sibling (and they are light enough to not knock too many things off the shelf or break any glass). They are the perfect toys for travel because the individual vehicles are not small enough to easily get lost on a plane or in a hotel room and they make no noise and require no batteries (a huge plus). And it's refreshing to see my kids playing with something that requires a little imagination. All in all a good deal.

PlanToys Mini Garbage Truck

I bought this toy for my daughter when we were overly concerned about lead in paint and when she was suddenly into pushing around little cars that were left on the playground.

I think I like it more than she does:), but she has enjoyed it, and it will be in our home for years to come.

It's durable, cute, and fun to play with.

I really like that it's a recycling truck and not a garbage truck, as that gives us opportunities to talk about recycling as we play with it.

I have since also bought the Plan Toys mini fire truck -they are such a perfect size for toddlers, so durable, adorable, safe and fun. You just can't go wrong with this toy!

This toy is what it is. Note that it is not that big. Its too big for the train sets but too small to be imposing, about medium I would say. It is still heavy enough to club someone with so be careful who you give it to. Nice design and safe paint, teaches about the earth. The cargo bay is open and connected by pegs. Yes it dumps (recycles?) Price shop before buying.

My daughter loves...loves....loves Dora and here friend Boots but we could only find Dora and never Boots in the stores. I am new to Amazon and was determined to find her a Boots doll. For close to $18, I would have expected a really nice stuffed Boots. However, it was slightly better than carnival quality. The plus side and all that really matters is that my son loved it and I couldn't find anything similar anywhere else. He thinks the show Dora is actually called Boots. LOL. I was warned by other reviews on the size and it is definitely small as well for the price. If your child loves Boots, it's great in that sense, but don't expect much. I hope it holds up...

Parents please be aware that many studies show that the more television children under five watch the less likely they are to engage in creative play. (DVDS being basically the same thing).

Dimitri Christakis the director of the Child Health Institute at the University of Washington quoted in the book Parenting Inc, states: "Based on the research I have done there is reason to believe these products (DVDs for babies and toddlers) have a deleterious (negative) effect on the developing mind"

Another quote, again from Parenting Inc." "There is no research to show that watching a screen is beneficial to a baby in any way, educational or otherwise. If anything it may be putting babies at risk" "A two dimensional screen can never replace a real environment, rich in all five senses. Holistic play is what develops the all the pathways to the brain." Alvin Poussaint, child psychiatrist and director of the Media Center of Judge Baker's Children Center in Boston.

Please think twice about buying DVDS for a baby or toddler. Do the research, it's not a good idea. Stick to the old fashioned toys that engage kids in creative play blocks, balls etc.
