Fisher-Price Laugh & Learn™ Magnetic Cookie Puzzle

Fisher-Price Laugh & Learn™ Magnetic Cookie PuzzleI would have purchased the magnetic cookie tray even if it didn't light up and make noise. My 1 1/2-year-old son loves to push the gingerbread man (who, by the way, doesn't come out like the other cookies--he's just a button) and play with all the cookies. It's cool that the cookies can, to some extent, stick to each other, and it's really nice that they don't fall out of their spots easily. Apparently the magnets also help the toy sense which side of a cookie is up, because it responds differently to one side than the other.

When I was considering buying the tray online, I couldn't find any pictures that helped me figure out what the back/bottom sides of the cookies looked like. They're just plain-colored, with a thick indented line following the shape of the edge. I also wondered what the sound was like. The gingerbread man's voice is high-pitched and extremely enthusiastic as his buttons light up and he cries out, "I love yummy cookies!" and "Making cookies is fun!" He announces what type of cookie each is as it's placed in the tray. There are also two cookie-related songs to the tune of "London Bridge" and "Someone's in the Kitchen with Dinah."

The description of cookies may cause confusion in some cases. Each cookie has two different descriptions, like "yellow square" for one side and "rough cookie" for the other side. As the cookies are placed in the tray, the sounds can interrupt each other--so if you put the rough cookie in right after the squishy cookie, the gingerbread man might cry out, "squishy rough cookie!" And, frankly, the squishy cookie isn't THAT squishy--it's just a little tiny bit squishy, so I'm not sure it'll get the concept across.

The main thing I would change about the tray, though, is the power switch. If I can't change the volume, I'd at least like to be able to turn the sound off once in a while. But the switch is really easy for my son to flip, and the "off" setting is between the "music" setting and the "learning" setting. Therefore, the chances of the toy ever staying off for long are minimal. In fact, the switch of one of the trays we ordered on eBay got bumped in transit, so that high-pitched voice was singing songs as I opened the box!

All that said, my son and I really think the tray is fun, and I think this is the kind of memorable toy our family will still be talking about for years to come. I'm very glad we got it; I love the colors and shapes; it's a very endearing product.

Additional note, 11/26/06: Recently, the cookie tray has been spontaneously making sounds on its own if we leave it on. Maybe this is a warning system, like when a smoke detector beeps because its batteries are dying? This issue still wouldn't keep me from buying the tray, but it's a good idea to turn the toy off if you don't want to know when the gingerbread man is craving attention.

Additional note, 12/11/06: Another new development is that lately the gingerbread man has been occasionally ignoring a cookie when it's placed in the tray. Then, when a second cookie is returned to the tray, the gingerbread man calls out information for the previous cookie. So if my son puts in the bumpy cookie and then the smooth cookie, we'll hear "bumpy cookie" for the smooth cookie. I will definitely try new batteries when I get a chance, but the sound isn't warped & slow or anything.

Additional note, 1/31/07: With new batteries, the gingerbread man is still "possessed." No big deal--we'll just try to keep the tray turned off when not in use.

My daughter received this puzzle as a gift when she was 10 months old. She loves to sit with Mom or Dad and put the pieces in. She dances to the music and is now, at 12 months, learning to pick the piece by color. Another great educational toy from Fisher Price.

My daughter has been playing with this puzzle for a long time we got it before she was even 1 year old. It's great because the shapes are simple, so they're easy to fit into their correct places. Plus, the magnet feature helps your child get the cookie into the hole once they have it close, the magnets pull the cookie into place. And then, of course, music plays and lights go off ... great positive reinforcement! The cookies sit into place on either side and the toy still recognizes them. The gingerbread man (only a button) sings and lights up when pushed. There are also 2 settings for this toy a musical setting and a learning setting. That's great because this toy really grows with your child! This toy is another fantastic product from Fisher Price!

Melissa & Doug Wooden Stacking Train

Melissa & Doug Wooden Stacking TrainThe toy that arrived from this seller was not the one pictured. The only reason I paid more for this one than the same exact toy that Amazon had for a little cheaper was that this picture contained a toy with a pull stringIT DOES NOT HAVE A PULL STRING. It is the toy that is pictured under the cheaper amazon price with the single colored wheels and no pull string. My son loves to pull toys behind him, so that is why I purchased this and I am very disappointed that it doesn't have the feature I paid more for. My son still loves his "choo-choo" and taking the blocks on and off, I just wish I paid the lesser price.

My 15 month old grandson played happily with this train in the children's section of my favorite local bookshop, so I ordered one to have at my house for when he is here. Now he is 18 months and still interested. It is both a stacking toy and a train, or, as he prefers, separate push cars. I appreciate its solid wood, smooth and unbreakable construction, and its bright colors. A lot of play value for a very small amount of space. Since buying this, I have learned that these are typical characteristics for toys by Melissa and Doug, so I will be buying some others for him.

Water Friends Keyholder

Water Friends KeyholderI am very pleased with this toy. I bought it because "it's not the same old baby toy" it's colorful

and very unique. It keeps the baby's attention for a long time, each critter has some attention getting

quality. A good buy.

I purchased this toy to entertain my then 9-month-old on a plane flight. It is very well made and fairly packable. I also liked the loop for attaching it to things. However, my son wasn't particularly interested in it. I thought the textures and colors would keep his attention for longer. One thing not mentioned in the description is that you can pull the frog's tongue out and it vibrates while being "sucked" back in. It takes a pretty firm grip to pull it out though, so a baby or toddler can't really do it. Otherwise, it is pretty well thought out toy.

Buy Water Friends Keyholder Now

I love Liliputien toys. We probably have five different ones so far. This one, I love, but the baby doesn't like it as much. She is now 11 months and plays with it more often. We've had it for six months now and she didn't like it until now. Strangle the toy seems a little too advanced for a baby. I love that you can pull out the frog's tongue and it vibrates. But it's too hard for the baby to figure out. I wish there was more plastic or wooden things on it so the baby can use it as a teether. The baby would rate this: eh... I rate it: great! So clever and cute at the same time.

SmartyKat BlockParty 3-Pack Kitten Rattle Ball

SmartyKat BlockParty 3-Pack Kitten Rattle BallI'd been looking for these in so many local stores, and finally found here! So glad! My cat carries these all over the house in her mouth!

When we adopted our now 2 yr old Siamese, these were his favorite toys. You might think he would move on to other toys as an adult cat, but these rattle balls bring out the kitten in him. He still loves to bat these around and carry them in his mouth. So adorable. And now our new kitten loves them too! Can't wait to order these with my next purchase :)

Dr. Suess Cat in the Hat Child Accessory Kit

Dr. Suess Cat in the Hat Child Accessory KitI purchased this for Dr. Seuss day at my son's school. The cat in the hat is his favorite character and he was thrilled when he saw this. The only problem I had is with the hat standing up well. We fixed that issue by putting two small air bags into the top of the hat (they came with a book shipment) and it was perfect. Even without that it still would have worked fine.

Little Devil Infant/Toddler Pacifier

Lil Devil Baby Pacifierour son loved it so much... and used it so much he broke it. i debated about getting another one, but he's nearing the age where he shouldn't really have a pacifier anymore. I got it more for myself and odd sense of humor. Some people were taken aback by it, i thought it was hilarious!

Cute product. Great for photos, but baby doesn't take to it as well as standard pacifiers. Keeps spitting it out.

Child's Costume, Orange Butterfly Costume

Child's Costume, Orange Butterfly CostumeThe costume I received appears to be good quality and it comes with all accessories (except tights/leggings). My daughter is very excited about it and looks adorable in it. She normally doesn't like dress up or costume play but she loves this one. The only drawback is my daughter is just now going in 4T clothes and this is very snug on her. I would recommend it be sized 2/3T.

I ordered this costume for my 4 year old and went by the size chart. When it came in the mail it was so ridiculously small that it tore as she was putting it on, and she was even smaller than the size chart so I figured it was awesome since she would have clothes on under it. She never got to wear it.

The look of the costume is nothing like the picture. Even the headband is completly different. The tutu was very cheap and almost to the point that i thought it would break when i put it on my daughter. Very cheap. Power Touch Baby Reading System

Power Touch Baby Reading SystemAfter doing some research, I bought this toy for my daughter who is 15 months old. I chose it over the Leap Pad product because it is said to not be as easy to turn off, and the pages are sturdier. It also seems like there are more things to touch and hear about. My daughter loves looking at picture books, and is constantly pointing to pictures and touching the pages. I thought this would be great for her, as it would provide some sort of verbal output to her curiousity and interest. I was disappointed, however, that the book doesn't attach to the unit very well, making it easy for the child to take out. My daughter just wanted to hold the book on her lap and look at it. Maybe its just not the toy for her. As with other reviewers, my daughter touches the pages in an attempt to turn them, and the voice just repeats the same syllable over and over. I realize with this age group it is difficult to always design toys in the way they will be used. I was surprised that Fisher Price put a "notice" on the inside of the package (not visible on the outside) stating the unit works best when laying on a flat surface (not on a child's lap?)and when touched with only one finger at a time (a six month old may not even be physically able to point with one finger). This would be helpful to know BEFORE buying. We are hoping my daughter will get the hang of it and not become so frustrated soon. I'll give it a week or so, but I'm leaning towards returning it.

I liked the "idea" of this product. The only problem I have with it is that it is too sensitive. My son is 1 year old and when he touches it, it repeats and repeats. The recommendations are to touch with one finger which is almost impossible because he likes to touch the textures (like he is petting). Otherwise, it is a good toy.

Buy Power Touch Baby Reading System Now

This is a re-do of my first review (I reviewed it the first day I got it before playing with it much.)and I couldn't figure out how to change teh stars. This product really only deserves 1 or 2 stars.

Hi, I reviewed this the day I first bought it, but thought I should post again because I returned it. My son could not get through one page. He loves to touch the pictures in the book, especially with the tactile pages. Whenever he would touch the page, the words to the story stop and respond to what was touched. And if he kept touching it or touched different things..it would just say the first syllable of whatever he touched. So, he wasn't hearing the story, or learning about what he was touching. It was more like a broken record of syllables. It was a good idea...but not a practical buy. We bought the leapfrog little touch system and have been happy with it. It isn't the greatest either, but he can atleast hear the story and it is not too sensitive. Leapfrogs pages are a laminated fabric, even though they feel like paper. They haven't torn yet. Good luck in whatever you decide to do. Spending money on regular ol' books may be your best bet!

Read Best Reviews of Power Touch Baby Reading System Here

I like this PT BABY for my 2 year old better than the regular PT for ages 3-7, which I bought at first. The regular PT has SO many things to do on each page that it is way too distracting and confussing for the younger age range.

The books are way stronger and more durable, as they have a thicker stronger plastic coating on them, vs the reg. PT books that bend & tear easily. The worst thing about the PTB is that the books fall off the unit very easy, which is very fustrating for mom and child. I wish the PT Baby had the alphabet on the unit itself like the reg PT does for use without the books.

I would have to say that the BEST books so far of the four that are currently retailing are: "I Know My Letters" and "I Know My Numbers". These two books are MUST haves out of the four. They are very colorful, textured, useful and the most educationl of all the four books out right now.

The carring case for the reg PT will NOT fit the PT Baby, however, the (green&blue) Leapfrog carring case/backpack will. Or, just buy a standard size backpack and use that instead...thats what we did!

But most importantly--this is a nice toy for child AND parent(s) to play together!!!! So enjoy!

***P.S. I hope my review has helped you out as much as other peoples TRU reviews help me with my decisions on toys.***

Want Power Touch Baby Reading System Discount?

After reading all the reviews that I could find on the PowerTouch Baby and Leap Frog's comparable unit I decided on the Fisher Price version. Boy am I glad that I did. Bear in mind that I have never used the Baby Leap Frog personally and might find it to be equally grand. My daughter received the PT Baby from "Santa" and she has loved it since she first set her fingers on it. She loves anything that makes music and this toy is great for that. She hasn't shown too much interest in the book that came with it yet but that will come. When the book is attached she likes to turn it to the back page and push buttons to hear the songs that are played as a result. I generally keep the book up on the shelves because she is very happy to play with the unit without it. It's great to take on trips in the car because it keeps her entertained "composing songs' without the worry of the book falling out, etc. It is easy for her to carry and she figured out in no time at all how to turn it on and off and adjust the volume. Several people have complained about how sensitive it is to touch, and yes, it is VERY sensitive. I wouldn't expect a 6-12 month old to be able to operate it in the same way that a 2 year old can. But while it may not seem like fun to you, it probably is for your child if they continue to press on the pages to hear the noises that it makes. People want everything to be so "educational" for babies. At this age it is enough for them to be learning about cause and effect! As an educator I can assure you that a six month old is not going to "learn" his alphabet or numbers by pushing pictures on a page and listening to the explanation that follows. While exposure to letters and numbers is benefitial sometimes the child just needs to be able to explore and have fun with the results! I highly recommend this toy for the ages listed on the box. Babies will enjoy the power that they feel from being able to make something respond to their actions while older toddlers can begin to benefit from more deliberate exploration.

Munchkin Linking Buggies Toy - Set of 3

Munchkin Linking Buggies Toy - Set of 3Cute little bugs, but the magnets that are suppossed to link them together aren't actually strong enough to hold them together. Also, the one with the light doesn't stay lit unless you're holding the button or have it linked (which as I said, it won't really stay linked)

Lamaze High-Contrast Pull and Play Puppy

Lamaze High-Contrast Pull and Play PuppyWell, I was looking for the Inchworm toy and couldn't find it, so I ended up with the puppy. Well, obviously not me. I remember the inchworm toy of the same style, and I had one for each of my children when they were infants. I would put it on their chest, pull the string, and they would erupt in giggles. When my best friends daughter was born, I immediately began looking for my inch worm. But alas... it wasnt to be. But I did find the puppy. And true to form, their daughter loves it, and watching her giggle in delight, gets the whole room laughing. A wonderful toy. One that memories are made of.

My baby immediately went for the dog's nose and was entertained for some time. Great to have for newborns/infants! Still hasn't really figured out how to pull it, but i like that feature.

Playskool Activity Tower

Playskool Activity TowerI bought this toy for my 7 month old for Christmas and he seems to enjoy it. It has 5 blocks that your baby can stack on top of each other to make a tower, but the blocks are hollow so you baby can also stack them inside of each other (great for storage!). The top/smallest orange block has a cute little face on it and when you press it down it squeaks! My little boy loves to smack that block over and over and make it squeak. The 3 middle blocks have a few different colors/shapes and textures on them but nothing special. Then the bottom block has lots of different shapes/colors and textures. It has a nice little handle on the side, a circle that when you turn it makes noise, a verticle bar that has objects on it that you can move up and down, a mirror and a little door/window that you can slide across a picture and play peek-a-boo. It is very durable. My son has thrown the blocks and banged them together over and over and I'm sure it will last. For the price I would say this is a pretty neat little toy and my son really seems to have fun with it.

My two year old grandaughter has been playing with this on and off for the past year. When she was younger they were nice for her to explore. Now she is fast at using them to build a little tower or nest them inside of each other. You can also use them to teach colors.

Brainy Baby 9910 Shapes and Colors Learning - Flash Cards

Brainy Baby 9910 Shapes and Colors Learning - Flash CardsMy sister gave these cards to us when my daughter was first born. I started to show the cards to her around 11 months (yes they are flimsy) and ended up going to Kinko's and laminating them since she liked to bend them. I have worked with her almost every day on them and she now can recognize and say most of the colors and shapes at 18 months! She loves to pull out her bag and do flashcards together while at home or away. We also have the ABCs cards and she has learned those as well. I say use your judgement if you want to purchase them or not, but as for our family we love them and can't wait to give them to friends!

California Costumes Unisex Adult Peacock Pet Costume

Peacock Pet Costume Size SmallThis is a great costume. Padding under the "feathers" make the "plume" stand up nicely. Purchased both a small and extra small. The extra small fit my 6 pound Yorkie but the small was too large despite my measuring the dog. Consider going one size down for this costume.

Okay let me just say I fell in love with this costume before I even got it. I was going to get this for Pugfest, so my dog could be in the costume contest. First all let me say, if you plan to buy this item get a size smaller! It runs really big, lucky I know how to sew so I was able to get it to fit on my dog. It says a medium would fit a Pug, so not true. Unless my Pug is really small for her breed.

But over all a great costume!

Bath Squirters: Ocean In Bag, 4 pc

Bath Squirters: Ocean In Bag, 4 pcThis is the 2nd set of Alex bath squirters that we've purchased. We really wanted the ocean animals to go with his bathtub. He loves playing with the toys, and his baths go a lot longer now. Really fast shipping on the company's part, too. We had the toys in 3 days from order.

However, they are difficult for her to squeeze and get the water to come out. Fun little squirt toys for the bath and kiddie pool. They really made the grandson giggle. Fun shapes, the seahorse was the favorite.

Want Bath Squirters: Ocean In Bag, 4 pc Discount?

My little ones all seem to love bath toys and these were their favorites. The one problem, they all got moldy. At first, I threw out toy after toy, and then one day, I started cleaning them with a simple bleach solution. I just filled my sink with ater, pured a small about (about 1/4 of a cup or so your bleach will usually have a recommendation on the back of the bleach) in and "cleaned" the toys by filling them about halfway and shaking the solution around. It kills the mold and cleans the toys. Just make sure to rinse them thoroughly inside and out after you are finished with the bleach. It takes a litte while, but the bleach not only removes mold, but usually prevents it at least for a littel while.

I am happy to say that I stopped throwing out these littls and I still have my "bath squirters". The kids just love to play with them in the tub, aim them at the shower wall and when we are doing a bubble bath, they "knock out" the bubbles. Cute, durable and fun. Can't beat it.
