This is a wonderful toy that can be enjoyed by both children and adults. The musical quality is great. In addition to providing auditory stimulation, it also provides tactile stimulation and fosters hand/eye coordination. Educational features for little ones include helping to teach colors, shapes, and cause and effect. Older children can learn about the sound of various instruments and develop an appreciation for music. This toy can be used in groups as well as for individual play. I've seen people of all age groups (infants to an elderly individuals)and ability levels (developmentally delayed, dementia) enjoying this toy. Did I say that it's just plain fun? I highly recommend the toy, but I encourage you to check around for the best price. Here on Amazon, it is currently listed at $61.60, while at Target, it's $39.99.

We all LOVE this toy....and as the other reviewer noted, I have as much fun playing with it as my 2 year old daughter does. There are so many ways to learn with the toy as well at the most basic level: colors, shapes, sounds -but also an exploration of melody vs. harmony, woodwinds vs. brass, not to mention all the wide variety of instruments (koto, accordian, and sitar to name some of the more exotic options). The pieces themselves feel great to the touch (and I can imagine a child who is sensitive to those types of things would really find them particularly engaging). The shape-sorter element is a little tricky (even for me sometimes ha!), but a nice challenge. The quality of the sound itself is very rich and not tin-like or electronic-sounding at all; it really sounds like you have an orchestra in your room! The song selections are varied and engaging (from beautiful classical classics to standard childrens' songs you can see a list of them all if you visit B. Toys' website). I will note that this toy can be purchased for almost twenty bucks cheaper at target. My other caveat is that although ours has never broken it can be finicky and take a little jiggling (turning on and off, with fingers crossed) before it works (and there is a sticker on the toy which acknowledges this and provides recommendations). The company seems really great and has advised that if you lose a piece, they'll send you a new one but there is a great storage section in the back where all the pieces fit. If you google "please mom toys symphony in b" you should be able to get more info and there's a demo on b. toys' website too. It is a pricey item, but if you're buying it as a gift for two kids to share or as a special birthday/christmas present, I think you'll be happy with it in the long run. We are!!! Almost a year later (I think?): we still love this, but I only take it out once in a while because I'm nervous about all the pieces. My 32-month old really just likes the music though the fact that she can click the demo button and change the songs...and then she stacks up the instruments...I don't think she's getting the full value of it yet, but I like to play with it myself. Note the current price here of nearly a hundred bucks is insane. I think it's thirty at target.

This is an amazing toy with one serious flaw, and that's the DEMO button.

My two year-old instantly realized that to hear the music, just push the DEMO button.

This cancels out the PLAY button and any ability to add/subtract instruments, which is the entire point of the toy.

So, if you're handy and have size small and extra-small phillip screwdrivers, razor knife and pliers, then here's a "hack":

1. Flip it over and remove the batteries for safety.

2. Remove every screw on the bottom except for the ones appearing to hold the speakers.

3. Carefully lift the base off and you'll have access to the little circuit board that holds the DEMO button.

4. Remove that little circuit board and the DEMO button will fall out.

5. Take a razor knife and cut out the guts of that button, like you're taking the seeds out of a melon. I cut the four lines of plastic, then used a pliers to twist it out.

6. Put everything back together and Voilá! the DEMO button is deactivated.

And it is now a perfect toy!

One criticism-

The batteries included with the toy last about two weeks.

So if your toy starts glitching and you think it's broken, it's probably the batteries.

Step2 Naturally Playful Sandbox

My husband and I bought this for our 2 1/2-year-old daughter and she absolutely loves it! She plays in it every day. We liked the idea of natural look so it would not stand out like a sore thumb in the backyard. It is big enough to hold my daughter and two of her friends. She also has a 6-year-old cousin who loves to play in it. They play for hours in it. The sides have little blocks on the corners for the kids to sit while in the sandbox and they are sturdy enough for an adult to sit on. The cover is high and rounded at the top so we are able to store all of her sand toys in the box. Great sand pit! However buy safe sand. There are 4 grades of sand(Fill, plaster, masonary, and Play) and only one grade is suitable for children's sand boxes:play sand. It should be silica free (depending on the state you live in) and is often sterilized. For this reason it is more expensive than the fill sand that is sold in the hardware store.

I want to thank M. Beatrice for planting the seed in my mind about "safe" play sand. I read the review, bought this sand box for my one-year old daughter and went to Home Depot to buy Play Sand. The label said it was specifically for use in sandboxes and washed, filtered, etc., so I bought four bags.

When I was unloading it at home, the red warning label caught my eye "Warning: This product contains chemicals known to the State of California to cause cancer". I couldn't believe it, so checked the sand manufacturer's website and sure enough, it's silica sand, known to cause cancer. Good grief and it's legal to sell this stuff for children's sand boxes?

Yes, it's cheap, less than $20 for 200 lbs. But what price do we put on our kid's health? Back it goes and I begin my search for exorbitantly priced "safe sand". (For ideas, type in "safe play sand" in your search engine.) But who cares? At least I won't have to worry about my daughter spending hours playing in a toxic pit! Thanks again, M. Beatrice....

My 2 year old son loves this sandbox! I chose it because of the natural color (we live in Texas and it seems the hot sun bleaches out most of his toys). Two children can easily play together in it because it's long rather than round or square. Also for the size, it's a really good value! We had his birthday party recently and had a bunch of one to four year old children really test it out so I know it's very durable! The lid fits securly and the little bit of rain or sprinkler water that has fallen on it has not seeped in. Niether have any bugs or animals so far! My nieghbor's 7 year old son likes it also, so it's good for all ages. I highly reccomend it!

I am a big fan of all the little people toys. They last the abuse my 2 year old put on them. The toys themself are simple with out a lot of bells and noise. Most don't even require batteries. My 4 yr. old grandson was elated to receive this toy. It was one, if not the, favorite toy he received. I loved that it didn't have a jillion parts to be lost amongst the other jillion toy parts throughout the house. It also has sounds and music but it isn't soooooo loud as to be annoying. First of all, the price listed here at Amazon.com is cheaper than Toys'R'Us or even Wal-mart...otherwise, I think it's ridiculous to pay more than ten bucks for this toy.

The medium and large cubes each have an opening on one side, so you can place the small cube within the medium cube, and the medium cube within the large cube. They stick up out of each other just enough for little fingers to pull them out, or you can just dump them upside down. If you turn them upside-down, they become stackable.

We got this for our son when he was four months old to teach him hand-eye coordination...he learned to stack them before he could place them inside each other. (My son is the kind of kid who learned to open our dogs' kennel latches before he figured out how to get the rings on his cone toy.) He still plays with the cubes, and he's thirteen months old now.

His favorite piece has always been the small cube because it rattles inside. The big cube has a mound of "bananas" inside, and the medium one has a tree stump both are great for exploring with tiny fingertips. He likes putting some of his other peek-a-blocks inside the medium and large cubes...the small cube works with toys like the peek-a-block goldfish.

This toy is also easy to clean, which makes it a great "sharing" toy for playdates. It's also a nice way to carry "three toys in one" in your diaper bag without taking up much space.

This is a great, simple, beginner educational toy! I love that you can see through the pieces, and some of the pictures move around. My daughter has played with this toy almost daily for the past year. It seems so simple, but this toy has provided hours of entertainment for our little one! I'm confident it will do the same for your child!

I recently purchased these for my 7 month old. The largest block on the bottom is too big for him. He likes the bright colors and is very engaged by the smaller blocks, but hit himself in the head right away with the largest block. Its just too big for him to manage at this age. We've had to put that part of the toy away until he gets a little bigger. I know there are better options out there because we had some for my older son (but unfortunately can't find them now). The soft knock-knock blocks we have are a much more age-appropriate toy.

I got this set for my son when he was 5 months old, and he still plays with it regularly after 10 months--and he is no pushover when it comes to toys. This toy continues to be one of his favorites--it is so open-ended that it allows him many opportunities to experiment. The blocks are really cute and each has something interesting going on inside (the hollow blocks are double-walled and have jungle-themed moving elements enclosed). You can stack or nest them (or shake or throw or fill them up or chew on them), and they are compatible with all the other cool Peek-A-Blocks and accessories, which are the same size as the center block. They are easy to pack up in a diaper bag and take with you, and the set has survived all sorts of "uses" without damage. I would definitely buy this again--but fortunately I don't have to!!

My 10 year old daughter bought this with her own money and was really happy with it when she received it. I thought it would be a little bigger but she was completely satisfied. It was exactly what she wanted and fits in with her other 2 horses she and her friends play with. It came very quickly and was perfect!

Moby Clutching Toy

So my 11 month old daughter loves this toy and she has been playing with it for months. Today however I had a frightening experience. She was playing in her play yard and I started hearing a different sort of whining, whimpering than I ever had from her. When I went to see what was going on, she had the fish tail completely in her mouth and behind her teeth. She has four teeth on both the top and bottom, and she could not get it out of her mouth. Luckily she wasn't panicking and I was able to get it out, but she was definitely scared by the experience. I will still let her play with it, but only when I am right next to her. Although the tail is not of choking hazard size, it can get stuck in their mouth if they try hard enough. Just be careful if your baby likes to stuff things in their mouth as far as they can, which mine apparently does. I also took a couple of smaller stacking cups that have a rim around the top which I could imagine a similar thing happening with and put them in the "under supervision only" bag.

Lots of the Haba toys are smaller, and more teeth-able than this one. However, like all the Haba toys, well made, bright, fun. Would have gotten 5 stars if my daughter was older, but for very young ones, try the flatter toys instead

The reviewer who stated this is too large for infant hands is absolutely correct. Moby is colorful and makes a wonderful teething toy, but until my grandson was able to sit up on his own he was uninterested in Moby. Not because it was dull, but because the size was just too large for his little hands to clutch and he is a large baby with large hands!

However, once he was able to sit up on his own, the baby really enjoyed putting Moby's head or tail in his mouth and gumming on the particular end he had chosen. The non-toxic finish on the tail piece has dulled and lightened from his chewing; the adjacent blue ring has also lost the sheen it had when Moby was new. The head is dulling, but the eyes are still fine. The other drawback to this toy is that when a little one decides to shake it vigorously, there is the distinct possibility of clunking either himself or the adult playmate with Moby. Yes, it does "hurt" when you get bopped by Moby!

Moby is a fun toy; but, it would not be my first choice as a gift or personal purchase. Haba toys are well made and have multiple uses. Nevertheless, there may be choices for your little one, other than Moby, which will provide better sensory or play experiences.

This toy is so cute, I almost bought it for myself rather than my son. But it is a great toy for him as well. It is a little more challenging than some of his other toys. It teaches him how to grasp things with two hands and manipulate things into his mouth. He likes it most when he is getting a little tired and is sitting in my lap, needing something quiet to do. I also like that it's made of wood, not plastic, and is something we'll keep even after he outgrows it.

My son didn't get interested in this until he was about 4-5 months old. This toy is probably a little too much for younger babies.

I do agree with some of the other reviewers about it being a little too big for small babies..my son is 4mo and i don't believe he is quite ready for it. At first the Farm Roller scared the heck out of my grandchild, but she got over it very quickly once she realized the friendly sounding "thing" rolling towards her was soft and did not hurt. In fact, once I sat her up on her riding horse, she was able to kick it hard and it always came back which was a delightful treat! She giggled and wanted to do it over and over again. Then she was ready to get on all fours and hit it with her hand. It's a wonderful toy to promote crawling and overall delight in a child. I intend to buy more as gifts for my friends who are soon-to-be grandmothers. I like that it can be deflated to store when baby outgrows it. I'm overall very satisfied with this product; it's a great value for the price. My son is 9 months old and plays with most of the toys on the front. The plastic was intentionally cast thin in order to force baby to use his own balance and learn to walk sooner. My son did topple the walker the first time he tried to pull himself up, but it didn't take long for him to learn how to rise steadily. Now he walks around with this walker all the time, usually with only one hand on it.

this toy has now taught two of my children how to walk! It is cute and way functionable. Even my four year old still plays with it.

All these people complaining about this toy being made of plastic what do you WANT it to be made of? Steel? Geez the whole point of a walker is for a child to slowly develop their leg strength and a sense of balance. "My toddler fell over!" Uh, why do you think they're called "toddlers"?

A bit expensive, but it was a gift so I can't complain too much! That said, my son LOVES this dumb car toy. He finally had something he could cruise around the house with, but light enough that he could manhandle it around when he deadended into a wall, etc. It took him a while to get the "car" aspect of it, but once it clicked, that was all the more reason he enjoyed it. He's 2 1/2 now and still plays with this! He loves to pretend he's changing gears, putting in gas, checking under the hood. I don't think there is any toy that can please all children, but if your child is active and starting to cruise, this might be a good choice.

not the sturdiest. Let me start by saying we got this for my 11 month old son for xmas, and as soon as it was put together, he was off and walking! He loved it right away! The other reviews also mention the toy being made of flimsy plastic and it definitely is. The box states that this is for 9+ months. I would definitely not give this toy to a 9 month old unless they were really advanced for their age. I feel like I have to walk behind my son while he is moving, but I could also be a little paranoid about the face plant that is probably to come..... The gadgets that are attached to it are fun as wellthere is a spinner, a clutch, a rattle and a few others. Only thing that's missing is a horn, but I definitely wouldn't count that against it. Love that you can walk with it or ride on it. If someone asked if I would buy it againI would say yes for what I paid. I think it is listed here at $59.99 and I got in on sale at Toys R Us for $17.98. I guess you sometimes get what you pay forbut I would only get it again if I were paying my price. I bought this when my 10 month old grandson was able to pull himself up. Right out of the box I was disappointed. The plastic is thin and the toy looked like it would just topple over.

I use this toy only with strict supervision, because he can pull it down. There's no exciting toys on the front to interest him. He sometimes twirls the toy on top for a few seconds, and will push it around for a few minutes. I wish I had spent a bit more, and bought one with a wider base, educational and engrossing toys, and sturdier overall.

There's nothing horribly "wrong" with this toy, but there's others out there that offer more.

My 8 month old son loves this toy. He is learning cause and effect concepts. It's simple enough for him to understand how to press down the top to get the cute butterflies and lady bugs to spin around and land in the holes. It's entertaining and easy to carry along, with all parts safely enclosed...nothing to lose! I love this toy because no batteries are required...just kid power. It's just back to basics for an entertaining simple spinning top type toy.

My 11th month old has no interest in this toy at all. The plunger part is too hard to press down and she can't do it on her own.

This one is the best out of them because of it's bright colors and the interesting sound the cute bug balls make as they spin. My baby loves it. The Tolo Pony Carousel is another choice if you want one that is quieter, but the sound never bothered us.

I work in a preschool and Childcare center. We have these in our infant and toddler rooms and they are a huge favorite with the children. They are super fun and like a previous post said, easy to take along and no parts to loose or choke on. They are easy enough to push on for smaller babies to make the spinner work. The only reason I gave this four instead of 5 stars is because it is so LOUD! We put them away when the babies are sleeping so that the children who are awake can't play with them. Great toy for playtime, not so great if you have one awake and one trying to sleep.

Tummy Measure Game

I found this cute idea for a baby shower game when I was desperate for ideas to break the ice. We were going to be mostly people who had never met each other and whose only common link was the expectant mother. I enjoy meeting new people, but realising it is difficult for some I thought it would be an idea to have something to do if there was a lull in conversation. This tape measure was good fun without embarrassing anyone. Just hand around the tape and some scissors, everyone gets to cut the tape to what they imagine is the closest size to the baby bump. We made it more fun with a gift for the person who was closest.

I had alot of people at my shower and didn't have enough to go around. So, I used this as a tie breaker. It was fun, worth buying!

We used this for a baby shower and the guests seemed to really have a great time. It was a great ice breaker as people eyed up the pregnant mommy's belly and tried to guess how big her belly was. There was a lot of laughter and it got people up out of there seats. The tape measure was great and we had enough for all of our guests of 25, but we did purchase two tapes as some people tend to over estimate the size. I would buy this again for the next shower. I was glad that I purchased 2 as we had a large amount of people and you can have two people cutting at a time. It would be great if it came with a couple of pair of plastic scissors.

Got in the mail yesterdayvery dissappointed with the size. Its more the size of a face cloth than a blanket. Kind of a waste of money. Had I known it was as small as it is, I would not have ordered it.

My fiance and I were trying to find something tiny that our newborn daughter could hold onto and was the theme of a giraffe. I just bought this to take over for our soon-to-be adopted infant. I was very happy with the small size and weight (perfect for an infant to hold). But most of all, the sound quality is fantastic (and not too loud) and not electronic sounding at all. And the tunes are all pleasing to the ear and not annoying kid versions. I will like listening to it as much as our son!

I love this toy and will give it to every new parent that I know! This is the only toy with sound that we own that does not have clear packing tape on the speaker! (Every other toy gets the "tape treatment" once it enters the house!) I have a 10 month old daughter, and she has fallen in love with this toy. I bought this because of its portability and size, but the small package has delivered so much more.

The sound from the single speaker on the back of the 'Takealong Tunes' is extremely solid for such a small speaker, not tinny or hollow what so ever. The lights move in time to the music, and the whole thing is light enough for her to easily carry in one hand while she crawls around the house.

The large button-like wheel on the front is extremely easy for her to push, with just enough resistance that it isn't going off incessantly, and the colorful caterpillar handle is a natural draw to her mouth. The only minor complaint I would have is that I wish the handle were rubberized instead of hard plastic since it is in her mouth so often.

I thought I was buying a good sound & lights toy for the portability since it is not always easy to drag larger flashing, blinking, booping toys around with us, but I feel like I've gotten so much more out of this potent little package.

It sooths her when she's tired, entertains her when she's awake, and has become her best friend over the past month or so.

I would highly recommend this to any parent, another winner from Baby Einstein!

At first sight, you will be very happy with this toy. However, after I've owned this toy (for my infant son), it's somewhat a hassle at times.

Pros:

-Lights go off that are extremely appealing to a baby

-Music is also quite appealing to a baby, and has 2 different volume settings as well as an off feature

-Easy to grab and go when you're on the move

Cons:

-The buttons you press to activate the music & lights are WAY too hard for ANY infant you have to do this yourself for your baby

-Hard plastic so you have to watch your baby to make sure they don't slam this into their heads and get hurt

-The hard plastic is at times too hard for your baby to chew on for teething relief

-Batteries seem to die down a little quicker than desired

-After only 4 months, the 4 colored areas you press to activate the music/lights are starting to fade, so now white areas are starting to show through

Overall, I would suggest this, but only after you read the pros & the cons. My son got this at aged 4 months, and at now 7 months

he still loves it, but there again, to turn this on in any way, I have to do it myself. When you press the button to turn on the music/lights,

the songs only play for about 15-20 seconds so this is not a toy to give your infant if you're attempting to work & focus on anything.

Kids Preferred Puff, The Magic Dragon: Jack in The Box

I bought this for my 2 year old Grandson. Works well. He laughs every time the Dragon pops out. The wings can be a nuisance to get back in the box. But over all, it's a good buy.

The toy arrived quickly and works great. I do wish there were more "classic" jack-in-the-boxes available. I am not a big fan of this plastic top and plastic latch mechanism, which is difficult for most adults to secure, much less babies.

It does work as advertised though, and my 16-month-old loves it.

This is cute but Puff pops up too soon but it is well made and a better addition to the music than the clowns I have seen.

SO disappointed when I received this. it is called the small rainbow stacker, but on the toy websites I have shopped, the "small" is 7 inches long. this one is less than 4 inches. I bought this for my grandson as a Christmas gift, but it's barely a stocking stuffer

I bought this for my son when he was six months old. He is now almost five, and is still playing with it. He makes creative sculptures, adds them to his wooden block creations, and uses them as telephones, train and car tunnels, boats for action figures, and bridges. This is truly a toy that grows with a child. I really think he might get 4 more years' use out of it!

I bought this as part of an educational kit I was building for a classroom. The kit was teaching about rainbows and I thought this would be great for my younger students. My son who is 2.9, took it out one morning and played with it for half an hour straight stacking and unstacking building new structures and reciting the colors in order. It was really cool to watch. It's also beautiful to handle. It's small and a bit pricey, but I would buy it again or as a gift for sure.

I bought this stacker from a relative's Wish List so I didn't realize how small this is. This stacker is TINY and NOT worth $22! I'm buying it for a baby and I feel that it could be a choking hazard (as the package warns). I'm returning it asap!

I just learned my lesson. I didn't pay attention to the size of the product. It's very small and it feels unfinished, very rough to the touch. I may still make it a $20 stocking stuffer since it's my fault for not reading the size description. I wouldn't recommend this product.

LeapFrog Baby Number Cruncher Teether Book

This teether is really cute, and my daughter loved to chew on it. HOWEVER, after she had it for about 15 minutes, I noticed a big piece of one of the pages in her mouth... WHO makes a "teething" book with paper pages that peel off? I noticed they were paper labels when I first got it and washed it before I let her chew on it. I was hoping it would stay intact; however, as any mom with a teething baby knows, teething toys get soggy and slobbery, and something with paper labels is OBVIOUSLY not going to stand up to being waterlogged! What a bad idea, and what a disappointment. Money just thrown away!

I thought this was a really cute book and I love the teether numbers. The only thing that is not so wonderful about this book is that the pages are cardboard so when my baby does drool on it, it gets water marks.

loved the graphics and the cute numbers that are teethers. but as with other teethers, i like to wash them and unfortunately, the sticker/cardboard pages start to peel off even when i'm extra careful to only wipe the teething parts. wish it was more durable!

My 8 month old loves this. He loves books in general but ultimately they end up in his mouth like everything else......not good for cardboard. This book solves that issue!

Cute idea for teething. The spine works great for chewing and the sides of the book. Doesn't stay open very well as a book, pages kind of slap back closed if you don't hold it open yourself. Overall cute toy for the price.

I bought these for my son's 1st birthday party and the kids that attended just loved them. I added some colorful letter stickers to put my son's ( birthday boy ) name on his hat to make it more special for him!
