Dora the Explorer Toddler Bed

Dora the Explorer Toddler BedAfter reading the many reviews on toddler beds, my husband and I went to Rip off R'US to purchase this product (because we had a gift card, otherwise I wouldn't shop there. Their prices are high and their free shipping isn't free, but I digress).

Most of the reviews of this product are spot on. The product is:

1. Hard to assemble. I was tempted to call my friends husband --who is a mechanic-to help us put it together.

2. It is poor quality. A Coleman cot has a better, more durable frame.

3. The plastic headboard and foot board are cheaply made.

4. We had a hard time getting the crib bed into the frame.

5. It is overpriced for the quality. $39.99 would have been a fairer price.

However, my daughter was so excited to have a Dora bed. She ran over to it, said "I love it," hugged her Daddy and said I love you. She's also been showing to everyone who is coming over for SuperBowl, showing it to them and saying "Tada."

If you are going to buy this bed --because your child is ready for a bed, it is Dora and they will love it -then just beware it is hard to put together and not very well made.

Also, buy it from Amazon. It is the best price with free shipping.

If we had more money, I would've bought a Little Tikes or KidKraft bed. They are much better quality and Made in the USA.

I love this Dora bed, we didn't get the one with the canopy (I knew that would be trouble with my crazy 1 1/2yo child). We picked the bed up at toys r us (or babies r us...) and it wasn't hard hard at all to put together. The most difficult part to put on was one of the bed guards on the side to prevent child from falling out, as it took my strong husband and me pushing it and straining to get the stupid thing to attach in the right stop. Once it was there, it was very sturdy though.

I love that the bed is close enough to the ground that when she does roll out (she is all over the place when she sleeps and she'll scoot out of the bottom) she falls and doesn't even wake up because it's not far enough to hurt. I just pick her back up and lay her back down and she stays asleep the entire time. This doesn't happen more then what's expected of a young child sleeping on an open bed. It wouldn't be enough to make me change my mind on this.

One thing I don't really care for is the open slots on the headboard. It's there for looks, I think, but her binky falls back there and she loses them under the bed, so I have to fish them out and search there often if she wakes up and can't find it and gets upset at her loss of it. The other down part was the first month it was difficult to get her to actually stop staring at the Dora sticker on the headboard and saying "Dora" over and over while pointing at it and making squeaking sounds while she rubbed her finger down it long enough to actually fall asleep. I did regret buying her favorite cartoon a few nights because of this issue, but she's moved past it and sleeps in it without distraction now.

I've actually laid in this bed for short amounts of time, and have sat on the bed while getting her to sleep plenty without any issues (I'm currently pregnant and 150lbs) and my husband has also sat at the end without any issues except the baby mattress coming up at one end for a second (he's around 180ish lbs) so I don't doubt the sturdiness of this bed.

The box said easier assemblyI would hate to see the first edition. The holes were off center and hard to line up. After several attempts I finally got the bed together, only to have the side rails fall off after 2 weeks. Piece of junk and waste of money. I gave it 2 stars because my daughter likes it and will sleep in it and the stickers are cute. Now I have to go and buy side rails so it doesn't become a death trap. Will never buy a Delta product again. So angry I want to Twitter about it or write the CEO about lack of quality control!

This was easy for me a 45 yr old female to put together by myself. But, the last two screws took me close to an hour because the holes were just just a tad off. My daughter really wanted this bed so, I perservered. She loves the bed and is so proud of it. But, it is mostly plastic. I suppose it's sturdy enough. She's happy with it so, I guess it's not so bad.

It was hard to put this bed together because the screw holes were not in the right place, good think i put it together with someone who knows how to fix things. make sure you have someone strong helping to put it together because the side rails have to be pushed on really hard. but once together its great

Sassy Feed'em Up Plush Rattle Toy

Sassy Feed'em Up Plush Rattle ToyMy 6 month old daughter loves these. So far she is really into the watermelon and the broccoli. The apple is a little too big for her little hands, but she does nothing but grow, so that is ok! These are the perfect toys for her while playing in her crib.

Very colorful toys. My baby loves the crinkly texture of the broccoli. Even though he is 5 months, I think he likes them. He gets entranced by the colors. I like how plush the fruits and veggies are so that he will be unable to bonk himself in the head. :)

Curious George - Peek-A-Boo George

Curious George - Peek-A-Boo GeorgeMy 13 month old loves this toy. It is a little noisy but my son pushes the button on curios george himself to start him up. Very durable toy after being thrown around alot.

I purchased this 2 years ago for our son who loves Curious George. It worked for less than a day (on regular mode. The demo mode is a strange feature) before not doing anything. He's adorable, pulling the hat over his head, then pushing it up, giggling as he goes. It comes on wheels, although ours never rolled. We have 4 other Curious George toys and they all worked wonderfully, so I'm sure this was a defective one. Unfortunately, I returned it for a replacement, but they didn't have them at the time. :(

This toy was discontinued awhile back, making it hard to find for my George-crazy grandson! We ordered this thru Amazon, one of the few places that still had one. The toy was brand new in the box, they even included new batteries to replace the old ones in the toy. My grandson loves it! It arrived earlier than estimated, thank goodness, it made it here for my grandson's first birthday. All-in-all a very painless transaction.

Love this toy. It has entertained my son for quite some time until he got to the age where he could pick it up and play with it himself. It's such a fun toy and as he aged, he began to imitate it as well!

One weird thing about the toy (maybe not so weird)... but there is a display only mode, and at first it made me think the monkey was broken because it didn't go thru a full cycle. Thank goodness I figured that out, but not until I bought a second one. (Yep, I have two and am selling one!)

However, my little guy just loves it and squeals when Curious George lifts his hat off his head. It's really a riot to watch!

So, the toy is great from age 8 months (adult operated) and has continued to entertain my son who is now 2 and 1/2....

The World of Eric Carle: The Very Hungry Caterpillar Soft Book by Kids Preferred

The World of Eric Carle: The Very Hungry Caterpillar Soft Book by Kids PreferredThis is one of my all-time favorite children's books. One sunny day, a caterpillar pops out of an egg. He is very hungry and begins searching for food. Now, many of Eric Carle's books have gimmicks--the tactile web in THE VERY BUSY SPIDER and the chirping in THE VERY QUIET CRICKET, for example. The gimmick in this book is that the caterpillar eats holes through all the food, holes that are actually punched into the pages of the book. It's a good gimmick, actually. Also, many of Carle's books teach conventions--telling time in THE VERY GROUCHY LADYBUG and animal sounds in THE VERY BUSY SPIDER, for example. This one teaches the days of the week. On Monday, the caterpillar eats this, on Tuesday he eats that, and so forth. Very cute. Eventually, he becomes a fat caterpillar. He then spins himself a cocoon, where he rests for two weeks. And when he emerges...well, you can guess the results. It's a wonderful story. Best of all, the text is very simple as are the illustrations, so the book will appeal to toddlers as well as the pre-K and kindergarten crowd. In fact, it may appeal more to toddlers, because the story is so very simple. I know I read it as a kindergartener. I loved the holes but found the story rather boring. I read it to my two-year-old this spring, however, and he went nuts over it. The days of the week were lost on him, but he was fascinated by the caterpillar turning into a butterfly--he had no idea! Can't tell you how many times we read it. We also re-enacted it, crawling on the floor and eating, spinning ourselves into cocoons, and popping out with fluttery wings. In fact, he was so taken with the caterpillar-to-butterfly phenomenon that I ordered some caterpillars (I used "Insect Lore"--they are on-line--but I'm sure there are lots of other places to get them). We read THE VERY HUNGRY CATERPILLAR at each stage of their development and then right before we released them as butterflies. It was the highlight of our spring.

We have this book in a small and large size together with anEric Carle videotape that has the story. A young caterpillar is bornand begins to eat his way through the world and through many foods that you child will be able to identify. These foods are eaten on each of the seven days of the week, an added bonus, as your child begins to learn that Sunday is a different day that Monday. The caterpillar gets very fat. He builds a cocoon and then emerges a large beautiful butterfly. My 3 year old does not tire of this story. He learns about nature, food and the days of the week in one absolutely stunningly illustrated book. You can't get much better than this for young children. If you have young children, or if you are looking for a gift for a 4 year old and younger child, this book is highly, highly recommended. Enjoy.

Story Synopsis:

A caterpillar eats his way through different foods until he is full and weaves a cocoon transforming into a beautiful butterfly. Charming colorful illustrations of foods along with the fat caterpillar and catchy little holes in the foods where the caterpillar "had his snack" make this book a hit with young children.

Review:

Eric Carle's classic, "The Very Hungry Caterpillar" has charmed millions over the years with it's simple memorable story, striking illustrations and the gimmicky holes on each of its' pages. To date, more than 12 million copies of this book have been sold in its original, full-sized edition, and mini editions. This beloved tale of science and gluttony has also been translated into 20 languages and counting. Die-cut pages (each page has a hole where the "caterpillar" ate through the food item) illustrate what the caterpillar ate on successive days. Strikingly bold, colorful pictures and a simple text in large, clear type tell the story of a hungry little caterpillar's culinary progress through an amazing variety and quantity of foods. Full at last, he weaves a cocoon around himself and goes to sleep, to emerge a few weeks later as a wonderfully transformed and beautiful butterfly! The final, double-page picture of the butterfly is a joyous explosion of color, a vibrant affirmation of the wonder and beauty of Nature. This story is a hit every time. Carle's bright colors and clever die-cut artwork never cease to entertain even the youngest child, and there is surely nothing in nature closer to magic than the emergence of a butterfly. This is a beautiful, educational and fun book.

Literary Features For Young Readers:

Simple words appropriate to pre-readers, younger children and ELLs (English Language Learners).

The predictability of the words and their tie-in with the illustrations makes the book easy for pre-readers to understand.

The rhythm of the prose makes the book memorable and fun book to read for little people.

Strikingly bold, colorful pictures tell the story of the hungry little caterpillar in complement with the simple words.

Eric Carle's art gimmick (i.e. the die-cut holes through the food illustrations on each page) gives small children (and the occasional adult like me!) an extra bit of fun and enjoyment

The moral lessons of the story are simple and universal: "Don't judge a person by the way they look" and "real beauty is more than skin-deep."

Teaching Tie-ins:

Counting skills (Foods accumulate progressively)

The days of the week.

Nutrition (The best food for the caterpillar is the leaf, not the candy, cake, etc. or why we can't eat chocolate and candy all day long)

Intro to science and biology:

It is a fun book with its' "holes" that have been eaten through the pages, and become a preschoolers introduction to science/biology when the little caterpillar turns into a beautiful butterfly.

Shapes (foods)

Possible Projects:

Food or nutrition mobiles and other related projects.

Art collages in the style or Eric Carle using torn tissue and other media.

Simple life cycle science projects (posters are life cycle mobiles)

Caterpillar art activity: creating caterpillars out of an egg cartoons.

As a preschool and kindergarten teacher, I had classes perform simple plays for young children based upon this book.

-----------------------------------------------

I highly recommend this charming little book for younger children and ELLs (English Language Learners).

Don't get me wrong. I LOVED this book as a child, so I couldn't wait to get a copy for my kid. I was in such a hurry that I didn't realize what this publisher (or Amazon) calls MINIATURE EDITION must actually mean miniature edition for hobbits. The text in this book is so small, that I'm afraid it will hurt my child's eyes. Maybe I'm paranoid, but I hate this edition of the book because it's ridiculously small. I mean, it's that revolting.

You might not mind this size, but I heavily recommend checking it out before you purchase. There a much better sizes at Target that actually look like a miniature size for humans, as opposed to this pocket sized edition. This book does not include how the very hungry caterpillar ate a small hole in my wallet either, go figure.

Hape Dancing Butterflies Push and Pull

Hape Dancing Butterflies Push and PullPlease be aware that I only really got to see this product after it was opened by the little girl I bought it for and can't speak to it's long term durability. I love Hape toys and really love the bright colors and simple design of this push and pull. I was just a little worried that the stick, which comes in two pieces and screws together might not be sturdy enough to last a long time. However, I used to work in a toy store where similar Hape toys were sold and they seem to stand up pretty well to the frequent use they got from our little customers.

Got this for my 15-month old toddler. She'll push and pull it along, but it doesn't roll very well on hardwood floors. Not sure if it's the angle she's using, or if it's the wheels themselves -sometimes they seem to just slide instead of roll. Works better outdoors on asphalt or sidewalk. She likes the "clack clack" sound of the wood butterflies, and giggles when the toy is moving. She's dropped it a couple of times, and nary a scratch on our floors OR the toy. Very durable. I just wished the wheels rolled better.

Sassy Piano

Sassy Pianobatteries do not last and can not be replaced, motif serves only. It sounds very low, does not allow regular volume, as shown in the picture.

The sound from this toy is sort of sad like its under water. It doesn't really do much or satisfy much its not soft or chewable the rings are lackluster. My child's least favorite toy.

I ordered this toy for my son because it is a piano that plays music. As his toys go this is not one of my favorites. I personally feel it has a cheap look to it but it is easy for our three month old to turn on himself by pressing the keys. The keys are just one botton and when pressed it plays music for a moment. If you're looking for a baby toy that you don't care if you lose it somewhere, this may be the toy for you.

Jellycat Olive Owl

Jellycat Olive OwlI love this owl he is so cute! My girl thinks he is funny, and he is really soft. My only problem is you can't wash it. I know I shouldn't have put him in the washing machine but I did and he turned into a puff ball! Oops...

I bought this as a present for a friend's child who is 20 months. It is a good size, and just too cute! It advises on the tag that it is not for very young children because of the shedding. I would agree. When I pulled it out of its plastic shipping bag, it had some stray fur bunches that had to be removed. I imagine this shedding continues for a while but levels out.

A very cute and especially soft plush toy!

Fisher-Price Discover 'n Grow Light up & Go Turtle Soother

Fisher-Price Discover 'n Grow Light up & Go Turtle SootherMy son sleeps in a pack and play in our room. I really wanted to find something that he could manipulate and play with when he wakes at night like the Fisher-Price Rainforest Waterfall Peek-a-Boo Soother that our other son uses in his crib. It's been difficult to find things that will clip onto a pack and play, but I found this item at our local big baby store and bought it.

The Light & Go works by pressing the large turtle shell (really good for small hands). You press it once and it lights up, press it again and it plays music, press it again and it plays another song; 1. Brahms Lullably, 2. Hush, Little Baby, 3. Twinkle, Twinkle, and 4. Beautiful Dreamer... all played very slowly to help keep your baby calm and sleepy. On the side of the turtle is the on/off volume adjustment; two volumes loud and louder, wish they'd makes these things with a rolling volume adjustment so you can have a little more control over the sound. These soothers sound great during the day when there's other noise, but in the dead night of a quiet room, they are impossibly loud even at their lowest setting. That being said, you could place tape over the sound holes to make it quieter. The night light feature is actually pretty good, not glaringly bright, but soft yellow and soothing.

The clip on design is really a great idea! It uses a tension slider that pulls out from the turtle's side and clips onto the side of the pack and play. The only problem we encountered is our son sleeps using the bassinet attachment, so with the attachment the tension clip doesn't clip very well because it's too wide. He won't be sleeping in the bassinet much longer, which means we could use the clip, but then it will be too high for him to reach, and when he is able to stand and reach it he'll probably want to take it off and toss it (our first son was precocious that way). So I'm so-so on the clip design; would have been better if the slider came out a little further to be more adaptable.

The Light & Go Soother can sit on a table or clip to the pack and pay, not bad for using it as a travel item. All in all, I can't say I'm really crazy about this thing and will probably return it, mostly because it doesn't quiet meet my needs. I feel like it should have allowed baby to press the shell and turn it off, but as it is baby has to listen to it for 15 minutes before it shuts off. If baby has it on the light option (which they can only do if they press it once, otherwise it will only cycle through song selections) then the light will go off after 5 minutes.

I purchased this travel light for our holidays. We have a fisher price rain forest muscial mobile at home and my daughter falls asleep every night looking at the light.

I was concerned that she would struggle to fall alseep without the light while on holidays, however I discovered a few nights before our trip that the muscial function was probably more important than the light.

I had never previously used the music for sleeping, as I felt it was too loud. However, she seemed to really calm down with the music, even though I found it a bit tinny.

I had hoped to put the travel light in the cot with her, but it was too big. I instead placed it next to the travel cot and she could see the light through the cot fabric and found the music soothing (even if I didn't). Although I do think the light goes off a little too quickly though.

Anyway, all in all the product was a success and I am even using the music funtion now that we are home.

Buy Fisher-Price Discover 'n Grow Light up & Go Turtle Soother Now

I have being using this for 3 weeks with ourGraco Travel Lite Crib with Bassinet, Ally and have been happy with it so far. We needed some type of soother for our preemie, who is up every 1-3 hrs around the clock, but most crib soother do not work on the pack and plays. I was excited to see this product, especially for the price.

The clip is a bit tight with the bassinet feature if placed on the long side of the pack and play wall, but I find it works perfectly if clipped to the short side of the bassinet liner.

The bassinet is within arms reach of our bed. I can push the light to check on our daughter without turning on the much brighter side table light to check on her and then turn on the music if needed. The music is soothing and she will often fall back asleep for another hour. Always a plus with a newborn!

The first push of the button gives light for 5 minutes, a second push turns on the music for 15 and a long 3rd push turns off the whole thing. The batteries it came with last us about 3 weeks. I have read on other site reviews that it does go through batteries fast, but don't most baby requiring devices!

This soother is fairly basic and may not entertain older babies, but for infants who you just want to go back to sleep I think it's great! I also like that is is easy to take on and off the bassinet and slide into the diaper bag for travel and visits.

Melissa Doug Mirror Flip-Flap Color Toy

Melissa Doug Mirror Flip-Flap Color ToyMy daughter got this as a gift at about 10 months of age and could have cared less. The "satisfying clicking sound" was not so satisfying. She did like to chew on it while teething and was interested in the mirror for a minute, but overall it just sat there. Topeto Car

Topeto CarMy son loved his little car and now has passed it on to his little brother who loves it as well. Fun car!

We bought this as my daughter was going through a stage where she loved to push little cars. This little guy never caught on in that way, because my daughter had begun waking by the time we gave him to her, but he's been a great toy for when we're out and about.

He is small (about the size of an adult palm), but that turns out to be just right for a toddler's small hands.

He's safe to chew on, and very well constructed. I regularly check and he's just as solid as day one. And he's lots of fun to squeak! Besides, he's just so darn cute. His irresistably simple charm has made him a winner in our house.

Wader Giant Dump Truck

Wader Giant Dump TruckI have never seen truck like this. Size, functionality, quality, ... .

We have this item strictly outdoors.

It stays out in winter and summer.

3 years have passed and it is practically as it was on the day 1.

Item is made of Poly Ethylene plastic resin, practically most durable and usable plastic resin out there.

My boys love to dump, transport everything from sand, firewood, stones, each other and yes even our dog gets a ride here and there. I am not sure how much he likes that but ... .

Product is really well designed, constructed and produced.

No question pricey but if you can afford it pays back itself you really do not need to buy another similar item again.

It is nice the see lines like Wader. We have numerous of their toys and no regrets. Made in Germany tell it all.

Skip Hop Roll Around

Skip Hop Funky Farmyard Roll Around PigThis is one of my son's favorite toys. He's been playing with this toy for a few months now. He's 5 months old and still loves holding/playing with it. Super soft with a great rattle noise. Will be a good crawling incentive.

Nice big, rolly poly cow! Love the twinkle bell sound it makes and the crinkly appendages. My puppies love it, too. ;)

Adorable stuffed animal. Gave to my nephew when he turned 1. He didn't seem very interested, but I'm pretty sure it was because he was very tired and cranky. He didn't particularly like anything. LOL. Anyway, its super soft, and the ears make a rustling sounds. Would be easy for a baby/toddle to hold and bang around on things with.

We use it as a ball. We love it because it's bells are not anything loud and obnoxious but sweet and tame.

Based on the title for this item, I was under the impression that this cow bounced and rolled around on it's own but it doesn't. It's simply a round plush cow with a bell inside. It works as a nice ball to play with indoors whether playing catch or even kicking it because it is so soft. There are no plastic parts, like eyes, so it would be great for a baby but maybe a little awkward to hold.

My First Baby Powder Pink - Madame Alexander

My First Baby Powder Pink - Madame AlexanderThis little baby doll is the only one I could find for a 12 month old! So many have tiny accessories that could be swallowed, but this little sweetheart is just a beautifully soft cuddler that my granddaughter loves and is just her size! I couldn't believe the price was so good.

This is a very soft, cuddly, durable doll. I have given several as gifts. It is a perfect size for a an infant or toddler to hold, carry around, and cuddle.

Pattern Blocks by Children's Factory

Pattern Blocks by Children's Factory"I received the pattern blocks from your company. The quality is great but I wish your pictures gave a better idea of the size. I was a bit disappointed that I spent $130 and they are smaller then I would have liked and expected. Amazon doesn't have size listed for the product."
