Fisher-Price Laugh & Learn™ Magnetic Cookie Puzzle

I would have purchased the magnetic cookie tray even if it didn't light up and make noise. My 1 1/2-year-old son loves to push the gingerbread man (who, by the way, doesn't come out like the other cookies--he's just a button) and play with all the cookies. It's cool that the cookies can, to some extent, stick to each other, and it's really nice that they don't fall out of their spots easily. Apparently the magnets also help the toy sense which side of a cookie is up, because it responds differently to one side than the other.

When I was considering buying the tray online, I couldn't find any pictures that helped me figure out what the back/bottom sides of the cookies looked like. They're just plain-colored, with a thick indented line following the shape of the edge. I also wondered what the sound was like. The gingerbread man's voice is high-pitched and extremely enthusiastic as his buttons light up and he cries out, "I love yummy cookies!" and "Making cookies is fun!" He announces what type of cookie each is as it's placed in the tray. There are also two cookie-related songs to the tune of "London Bridge" and "Someone's in the Kitchen with Dinah."

The description of cookies may cause confusion in some cases. Each cookie has two different descriptions, like "yellow square" for one side and "rough cookie" for the other side. As the cookies are placed in the tray, the sounds can interrupt each other--so if you put the rough cookie in right after the squishy cookie, the gingerbread man might cry out, "squishy rough cookie!" And, frankly, the squishy cookie isn't THAT squishy--it's just a little tiny bit squishy, so I'm not sure it'll get the concept across.

The main thing I would change about the tray, though, is the power switch. If I can't change the volume, I'd at least like to be able to turn the sound off once in a while. But the switch is really easy for my son to flip, and the "off" setting is between the "music" setting and the "learning" setting. Therefore, the chances of the toy ever staying off for long are minimal. In fact, the switch of one of the trays we ordered on eBay got bumped in transit, so that high-pitched voice was singing songs as I opened the box!

All that said, my son and I really think the tray is fun, and I think this is the kind of memorable toy our family will still be talking about for years to come. I'm very glad we got it; I love the colors and shapes; it's a very endearing product.

Additional note, 11/26/06: Recently, the cookie tray has been spontaneously making sounds on its own if we leave it on. Maybe this is a warning system, like when a smoke detector beeps because its batteries are dying? This issue still wouldn't keep me from buying the tray, but it's a good idea to turn the toy off if you don't want to know when the gingerbread man is craving attention.

Additional note, 12/11/06: Another new development is that lately the gingerbread man has been occasionally ignoring a cookie when it's placed in the tray. Then, when a second cookie is returned to the tray, the gingerbread man calls out information for the previous cookie. So if my son puts in the bumpy cookie and then the smooth cookie, we'll hear "bumpy cookie" for the smooth cookie. I will definitely try new batteries when I get a chance, but the sound isn't warped & slow or anything.

Additional note, 1/31/07: With new batteries, the gingerbread man is still "possessed." No big deal--we'll just try to keep the tray turned off when not in use.

My daughter received this puzzle as a gift when she was 10 months old. She loves to sit with Mom or Dad and put the pieces in. She dances to the music and is now, at 12 months, learning to pick the piece by color. Another great educational toy from Fisher Price.

My daughter has been playing with this puzzle for a long time we got it before she was even 1 year old. It's great because the shapes are simple, so they're easy to fit into their correct places. Plus, the magnet feature helps your child get the cookie into the hole once they have it close, the magnets pull the cookie into place. And then, of course, music plays and lights go off ... great positive reinforcement! The cookies sit into place on either side and the toy still recognizes them. The gingerbread man (only a button) sings and lights up when pushed. There are also 2 settings for this toy a musical setting and a learning setting. That's great because this toy really grows with your child! This toy is another fantastic product from Fisher Price!

Fisher-Price Brilliant Basics Nursery Rhyme Keys

My little one is almost a year old and this is still one of his favorites! He's teething and the different keys are great for him to gnaw on. This is one of the few toys he plays with repeatedly. I like it because it is a great teething toy, but it goes one step further with the music. The volume isn't too loud and the music button is easy to push.

The buttons are easy for a six month old to push. My daughter really likes it.

It's a great toy for babies. My 6 month old likes them a lot. The only con is that the base of the keys is very heavy, so it makes it hard for him to pick up and plus with it falls it hits hard. He likes the music, and loves to chew on the keys, so I think it's just a matter of time as he gets better at picking things up before this is a favorite.

My daughter received this as a gift when she was 3 months old. It STILL is her favorite toy and she is 12 months! This is long, but you will know everything that you need to know:

PURPOSE OF PURCHASE:

My daughter had just turned 11 months old. I was looking for a fill-and-spill toy that she would not outgrow as quickly as many other baby toys and I was hoping for something that she would use for creative play for the next couple of years. We were skeptical at first because we felt that, although the price is reasonable, we still did not want to throw away $20 and she might not care for it or it may be a little mature for her.

I am so glad that we bought it. It was the last of the gifts that we bought for her first Christmas, and I just know it was meant for her to have.

DESCRIPTION:

Everything is made of hard plastic, except for the checked "blanket" which is like a handkerchief. The basket is packed pretty full with everything inside, but she can easily fit it all back in without help. She loves carrying all of the pieces around in her little hands. (There are many pieces and you don't want them lost!) The full basket is a little heavy for a baby. She did not carry the entire basket around until recently (14 months) and still prefers not to, but she has always taken it off of her toyshelf and sat with it closeby in the floor. I can watch this thing growing with her. She likes to put the food pieces and forks in her mouth. And she LOVES the sounds it makes when the lid opens and closes. She loves the songs that it sings, and let me tell you, the voice is too cute and sweet. She dances while she plays and tries to sing.

POSITIVE:

I love it because it is easy to wipe clean (even though I haven't had to clean it yet), it is durable, it is fun, adorable, AND VERY educational!!

I had not realized before she started playing with it, but it teaches manners (saying please & thank you) and some prepositions, such as: put one cup IN the other cup, spread the blanket ON the ground UNDER the tree...a picnic WITH my friend. It sings the colors of the rainbow. It counts up to four often. It sings short songs about how many sides each shape has, and each of the three foods on each plate is a different shape (triangle pie slice, square cracker, circle orange slice). It asks you to find each shape. The plates are similar to wooden puzzles (only plastic), and she is learning to put the foods in place.

She also LOVES music, and this thing is constantly singing. It even reminds you to push the butterfly button to hear a song. She can play with this toy 100% by herself, and I know that she will not outgrow it any time soon because it is also my favorite of her toys. And when her cousins (4yrs & 11yrs) came to visit, this is the toy that they played with for 2 hours straight! She plays with it more than any other toy (and she has too many toys). We have never had to replace the batteries since she first got it.

NEGATIVE:

The cups are not intended to hold liquids. They each have two holes in the bottom that you could almost stick a pencil through. I like that she will have to use her imagination and also I will not have to worry about the inside of the picnic basket getting sticky with juice and I am glad that ants will not be stored in there. (But some people would rather have usable cups, and if your child tried to use them, it would be messy, so I thought I would mention this.)

The only real negative that I can find is that the talking basket may ask you to find the triangle, but it has no way to know whether you found it, so it does not correct you or praise you. It never responds or gives hints or anything. So basically, it just randomly asks your child to find things, but she may never know if her answer was correct (or wrong!). Therefore, I recommend that Mommy plays with her.

BOTTOM LINE:

I say it is well worth every cent (and more)!

this is a great toy! very durable, bold colors. everything fits into the basket so it's easy to store and not lose pieces. My 18 month old daughter loves playing pretend and this is a great toy for her. Plus, all the food is a shape that fits in it's on spot on the plates, like a puzzle. It helps her with shapes, colors and I can get her to clean up when she's done. And she loves carrying this around the house.

My 19 month old loves this set-foods, plates, cups and music. I am reluctant to let her play with it because she can fit the entire circle shapes (cookie and orange) completely into her mouth.

I have never written a review before, but had to for this toy. My 2 1/2 year old daughter and 11 month old son play with this toy constantly and fight over it so much so I am thinking about buying another one. We have more toys than anyone I know. I know the good, bad and easily broken ones on the market. This toy has everything you'd want for your kids.

Manhattan Toy Car Seat Gallery

I got a previous version of one of these for my daughter as a gift. I was skeptical, but amazed at the calming effect it had during our 9 hour road trips to visit family. Our baby HATED riding in the car until we got this toy. He would just scream and scream. But now when we put his car seat into the car, he is captivated by these pictures and will stare at them and then fall asleep. So this toy has been a real lifesaver for us. We also take the cards out of it and bring them into the house so he can look at them while having tummy time, etc. The only thing that would make this item better is more pictures, but there are still plenty included. This was a great purchase for us.

I have a 3 month old son, and I bought this about a month ago when we were planning a vacation that would have us on the road for 18 hours. It definitely helped. I also got a Fisher Price auto mirror similar to the $12.99 version on this site (I got it at Toys 'R' Us) which he enjoys looking at himself in--and I can see him too, which is a plus. He also had his 2 year old brother to entertain him, and by using a combination of all of these things, he was an angel on the trip.

Wonderworld Hopping Bunny Walker

My daughter, now 20 months, got this toy when she was about 16 months. She is tall for her age (99th percentile). She loves to push this toy around and make the bunnies hop up and down, and she loves to take the bunnies off and kiss them. (And the fact that they come off means they're easily washable!) However, even at 16 months this toy was very short for her. She has to bend over significantly to push it. Great toy for a younger, shorter child!

This walker was received as a Christmas gift for my 15 month old daughter. It is absolutely adorable! It is constructed well and she really enjoys it. Most toys are throw away items when the baby gets older. Not this one! This is one that you will want to keep and pass down in the family. I highly recommend this toy.

Got this for Christmas for my then 8 month old. He didn't really touch it at first, but once he was pulling up on furniture and other things he became more interested in this. The first day he pulled up on this toy he was standing and holding on to the handles when he pulled the whole walker back onto him self and the wooden bar (with the handles attached) pulled right into his mouth and knocked one of his teeth loose. One emergency trip to the pediatric dentist later (and luckily no major damage) we don't use this toy as a walker any more. I would like it if it was weighted differently, and not so easy for little ones to pull over the wrong direction.

...our daughter insists on removing them, but she enjoys the walker nonetheless. She is 1 y.o., of average height, and it fits her well; I can see that it might be short for taller or older children. She has learned to maneuver it quite deftly and is able to speed around our apartment without getting hung up. A nice, sturdy wood product. The only negative is that the wood squeaks a bit when rolling, but we don't find this particularly bothersome. Recommended.

My daughter loves this walker. The wheels can be tightened so she doesn't go flying, the bunnies are cute and my daughter loves playing with them. I didn't give this 5 stars because at 13 months, I still need to help my daughter maneuver over our hallway runner, I think the problem comes from the small wooden wheels and our own fault for the runners in our long hallway. Fisher-Price Stacking Vehicle Ice Cream Truck

We gave these to our nine month-old daughter as an Easter gift because we thought it would be nice for her to have her own set of cars. While we normally avoid toys with sounds and music, these are not too loud or annoying. Only the bottom "deluxe" car, as it is called in the description, lights up and makes the five individual sounds when the "driver" is pressed: a honking horn, laughing and giggling, tinkling bells and two short songs. A neat feature is that they are played randomly keeping one from having to hear exactly the same series if the button is being pressed over and over again. It also finishes each sound/song even if the driver is being repeatedly pressed down.

But the pictures are a bit misleading--at least with the cars we have. When the cars are taken out of the stack the "drivers" of the middle and top cars fall down into their respective cars so that only about a 1/4" of them is visible. These two drivers are only seen if they are stacked. It's not a big deal, but I wish Fisher-Price had made a way for them to twist and lock in the upright position once they are unstacked. Maybe we're missing something.

That issue aside, we're happy with the purchase and it is a very cute set that both my daughter and four year-old son have enjoyed. And the stacking feature is not only nice for play purposes but for storage as well.

This toy is super cute and the songs are not annoying. One of the three cars (the bottom ice cream truck) ligths up and makes noise. It's nice to have a set of cars that are girlish in color. Our daughter is six months old and she loves rolling the cars around (and tries to eat them too, of course). Very cute toy!

Edushape Discovery Cube Shop Worn Never Opened

I knew from the minute it was opened, it was a mistake. The flimsy foam from which it is made makes it nearly impossible (probably impossible would be more accurate) for it to function in the way it is marketed. The velcro is not sticky enough to stay on the pieces and that eliminates a whole side--throw those pieces away now that they're sticky from the glue on the velcro. The cover for the mirror's velcro doesn't work--eliminate that. The pieces that drop into the box are cute and well made--but the box won't stay together for them to be dropped in. Basically, I have six box sides and pieces that may have been fun if it was durable enough to be used in the way it was marketed. Three weeks after opening it...in the trash!

In addition to being soft, OX is adorable, especially his dossier. He truly has taken over all of my possessions. But he is good at sharing so I am not complaining. And he does give many hugs with his ears, since his arms are a bit too short. Earhugs are definitely fun.

Little Mommy Bedtime Baby - African American

I am Nonni (Grandmother) to a precious 4 year old Mollie-Kate (grand daughter) and have made a play room for her in my home. I purchased this as one of the things for her to play with. Mary Meyer Flip Flop Plush Jasmine Unicorn 14"

We have three other "Flip Flop" animals from Mary Meyer in previous years. They're wonderful, even more durable than we'd expect. This unicorn arrived with the bean bag stuffing placed to the side of where it should be, a loose stitch on the horn, and visible threads between the sections of the face's embroidery. It's obviously machine made with no human inspection. It's also a coarser, thinner fabric than the previous toys. I don't expect it to last long, and that's just...sad. My daughter loves the unicorn, and it will be such a shame when those stitches come out.

Bought this for my daughter for Easter. It is soft and she LOVES it. The quality is good for a stuffed animal. It isn't like a Gund, but it isn't dollar store cheap either. Only complaint is that the stitching started to pop open all along the seems of the legs. She's had for less than 4 weeks and the toy has already undergone 3 "surgeries" to repair open stitching... and all she does is sleep with it. (Can't imagine what it would be like if she dragged the thing everywhere!) All in all, not a bad purchase.

The quality is fine. Its a bit smaller than some of the other pillow pets, but, trust me the size is fine. If you are considering buying this item I would say its 'good enough'.

ImagiPLAY Pozimals - Tree

These toys are small, overall height of perhaps 4", I was under the impression they were larger. Also, the strings that hold them together don't feel very strong, I am afraid one will give and my some will be stuck with a small wood block in his hand. They are cute and brightly colored, but my expectations were higher. Also, company ships UPS, so shipping was 3x more than cost of toys.

My Pal Al Multi Sensory Baby Learning Toy

My son is 4 1/2 months old. I just got this for him a short time ago. For the moment, he's mainly trying to either hug or eat it. He loves it though. He plays with the different sections. He really likes the textures and sounds it makes. I think in another couple of weeks, it'll be even more popular.

My pal Al has become a favorite stuffed toy for our active 6 month old. The colors, sounds and textures keep him interested often for a half hour at a time, and the body is a great size for him to hold. The seams are strong, and the limbs seem secure. My only complaint is that the toy is not more compact. It is very long, which makes it difficult to throw in the diaper bag or bring in the stroller.

North American Bear Baby Cozies - Circus Cozy Lion

This lion is adorable and holds up amazingly well! Most importantly, my 8 month old loves it! He sleeps with it every night and, because it's small with no stuffing, I don't worry about it nearly so much as I would a blanket or a stuffed animal. We've washed it MANY times and you can't tell it at all it's holding up really well. We bought 2 just to have a back-up for when one is in the wash.

In regards to "Shelley" who complained about it being too small, I feel a need to comment. So let me say that it is immensely irritating when people give a product poor reviews simply because they didn't bother to read the basic information provided regarding sizes, quantities, etc BEFORE purchasing. If the product is inferior, by all means, rate it as such. People should not, however, give out low ratings simply because they didn't take time to read the details listed clearly under "Product Description." If Shelley had done this she would have noticed that, among other points, the size of 8 inches is noted. READ people!!!

*Update: We have now been using our lions for over two years. This lion is still our son's only lovey and he sleeps with it *EVERY* time he goes down. Despite the constant (ab)use and washing, they both still look great and we have had no problems with fuzz coming off, ripping seams, etc. GREAT product!

We received this as a small gift from a friend's mom when my daughter was born four years ago. Since then, Lovey the Lion has been at her side day & night. My 1 year old received a dog by this same company and immediately fell in love. Because of the small size and that it doesn't contain stuffing, like other stuffed animals, I felt ok allowing him to sleep with it in his crib. I was thrilled to see some many cute animals available and chose the lion! It is SO soft and my son loves play with the arms/legs, tail, mane, etc. while he is drifting off to sleep. Highly recommend as a special lovie as it is just the right size for a baby!

My 7 months old baby loves the lion baby cozy. He loves to hold it and rub it against his cheek and falls to sleep hugging it. Its very small but fits perfectly in his tiny hands.

I got a monkey one for his twin little brother but he care less. Some times he hold it other times is just there on is crib but some times he is really sleeping over it.

Nice and small, so no issues with sleeping with it at a fairly early age (not too early), but now my daughter won't sleep without it. we have had to get a back Lion so when it's in wash (washed in machine all the time and holds up) we have another ready to go for nap time. Great product!

My mom brought this puppy to the hospital when our daughter was born, and it has been her favorite stuffed animal all along. She is now eleven months old, and although she doesn't have any items that she HAS to have with her at all times, this puppy is definitely one of her favorites. And it's super cute! My two-year-old daughter received pink puppy when she was born and will not sleep without her special friend. It looks relatively new despite being flattened twice each day for sleep (kiddo sleeps on top of the toy) and being washed at least 5 times (inside a pillow case, air dry). We will be purchasing a couple of backups.

Pro: Very soft and surprisingly durable. Reasonable cost. Good initial amount of filling to be soft and yet "grasp-able" by small hands. We've had ours for almost 2 years now and it is holding up wonderfully given that our kid takes it everywhere... I mean everywhere! The only signs of age are that the fabric is matting a little (but still very soft) and a couple of threads have loosened up (we tied them off and cut the excess). Although not recommended, it can be machine washed and dried. Fabric cleans up nicely from all sorts of dirt. Limited educational value unless you start teaching the child about a dog's needs (feeding, bathing, etc).

Con: The filing collapses after about a year of intense use, so the doggie appears "deflated". Colors fade a bit with machine washing and sunlight exposure.

Overall, our child loves this doggie so much that we bought 2 additional ones just in case the original busts or is lost.

miYim Musical Pull Toy

I gave this to my friend as a gift topper for her Owl themed baby shower. It was the perfect gift as it is simply so sweet and plays lovely music. This is much bigger than I thought, and the pull-cord is longer than I expected. It is very soft, very cute, and the music it produces is quite pleaseant. What Im not sure of yet is where to put it and what to do with it. I initially thought that it is too big and too long to be a car seat toy and probably wouldnt work with our stroller either. I've tried hanging it from the overhead cross bars of a play-mat/activity gym and that worked ok. I did try putting it on our graco car seat, you cant see much of baby while its on there, but she did seem to like it and reaches for it and really enjoys the music. If she gets upset when we put her in the carseat, this has worked to settle her down. Overall, I think it is a pretty good toy.

These are the cutest baby toys! They have such charming little faces on every fruit or vegetable. Our baby loves his green bean toy the most. And the banana, corn and strawberry are very sweet as well.

They are the perfect size for baby hands and when they need to be cleaned (after being chewed or spit on by baby cakes) we just use a baby wipe and it freshens them right up.

Even our three-year old has "adopted" the tomato as a favorite stuffed animal.

This is my first choice when I need to buy for baby showers now. Everyone always oohs and ahhs over how cute and original they are.

Also, these are great stocking stuffers for new babies...just prepare yourself for a toddler (or other older sibling) that might end up wanting a veggie baby of their own!

In my opinion, the only thing that would make these toys better for babies would be some kind of jingle chime or rattle inside, but, as is, these toys are pretty darn close to perfect.

I got the green beans and tomato for my son when he was under 6 months old. He absolutely loved the green beans. They are perfect for a beginner teether. They are long and skinny so he could easily hold them and keep them in his mouth at the same time. And yes, they do get kind of gross after getting soaked with spit, but you can easily just stick them in the wash with a load of laundry.

The tomatomy dog liked. She got to it before my son and ripped it apart, but she must have liked it!

I also purchased the carrot later, but for some reason that one he didn't love. Kids!

I was very excited to get these after reading all the glowing reviews. Unfortunately, my baby didn't take to them so much. I bought several and he liked the green bean the best. It was the only one that he could handle and get in his mouth (5 months). I also got the strawberry, eggplant and the banana, but they were too big and he isn't able to grip them. Even now at 8 months he has no interest. I bought the larger sized ones after reading that folks said the smaller ones were too small, but the strawberry and eggplant are too big and there is nothing for him to grip.. picture teeting on someting shaped like an apple. Big disappointment.

This organic cotton stuffed carrot is a really cute toy for a baby. My son isn't overly enthused about it, but makes a really neat set along with the other stuffed veggies by Under the Nile. The carrot in particular isn't real soft, and the outer fabric is similar to t-shirt fabric, unlike the mushroom that is more soft and cushy with a terry-cloth outer fabric. So far I just purchased the mushroom and carrot, because I didn't want to spend the money on the entire set with the wooden bin before knowing if my son would be interested in it. I'm not going to purchase the other veggies because he is 9 months old didn't find these to be very entertaining. The Under the Nile organic veggies would make a great gift for a younger infant.

my now nine-month-old twins both LOVE this green bean (and the carrot). it's one of their favorite teething toys and was one of the first things they actually reached for and emitted squeals over! Plus it goes in the washing machine and dryer so after it gets a soaking from being chewed on, it can get clean again.

Lamaze High-Contrast Bend and Squeak Toy

I bought this for my new grandson who is almost 1 month old and he loves this toy. There is a squeeker that is not too loud. There is one problem, the label that is sewn on with the Lamaze Brand is very rough. It seems that the stitching is smooth on one end, but not the other.

My 8-month-old has loved this toy for months. It took him a while to figure out how to make it squeak (which he does by holding it and thwacking it down on his leg or the floor). But he always has a smile for it and is happy to play with it.

The green fabric hasn't held up very well; it's kind of pill-y and worn. Maybe that's in part, though, because I put it in the washing machine once. (It took a week or so for all the water to drain from the squeaker! Yes, I know, it's surface wash only. Other than that, the toy survived the wash well.)

I really love penguins. This is the first rattle I bought for my daughter. She loves to suck in its beak and squeeze the handle (where the squeaker is). It's light enough that she was able to hold it at less than three months old.

My son absolutely loves this thing, it does not leave his side. He got this for Christmas when he was a month old and now he's 11 months and he's still attached to it. I love how he crawls across the room with it in his hand, squeaking as he goes. It's soft, squishy and it makes a pleasant squeaking noise. I highly recommend this for any baby.
