The World of Eric Carle: Activity Caterpillar by Kids Preferred

I pretty much went through every early development toy on the market and came up with a large list of toys for my baby. I wanted to get her a caterpillar like toy and was struggling to decide between this one and the Lamaze musical inchworm found here:

Well, I got both. The Lamaze inchworm is almost twice as long, very soft, and has a lot of different textures on the body which my newborn took to immediately. When she got older, it was easy for her to squeeze the head and enjoy the music. She snuggles up with it occasionally and when she was a newborn I enjoyed using to measure her length!

This product on the other hand has a lot interesting parts, like the rattle you can see and the rings around the body which I figured she could use as a teether as well. However, like other reviewers pointed out, the music is hard for baby to access. The other thing I didn't like was the material of the toy. The toy was not very soft (then again I didn't expect this to be a plush toy) and there were some parts that started peeling a little after a few weeks of use. This happens with a lot of toys but I was a bit upset since baby loves putting this in her mouth. The bright colors are certainly engaging.

Everything considered, I liked this toy much better as an early development toy and found it comparable to the Lamaze take along toys. I would say it is best suitable for babies between 1 and 8 months. The Lamaze inchworm is better if you're looking for something soft to cuddle with, or if you are introducing it to a newborn.

we got this for my son when he was 3 months old. He loves to look at it on his infant carrier. It's soft which is nice-most of the ones I saw were hard plastic. He can now reach up and grab the squeaky heart!

Bought this for my 3 month old son for Easter. He loves it. He loves to stare at the catipillars face. I hang it from his play mat gym and he kicks it with his feet. It has really got him kicking a lot more. He seems to love the rattle noises it makes. Only have had it a little over a week but it seems durable. Can't really rate educational because we haven't had it long enough and our baby is so young. He also reaches for it when we hang it in front of him. Cute toy.

My daughter is now 7 months old and she's been interested in this toy since she could play with it. The only thing is our music thing is really hard to push but everything else is really great. This is one of her favorite toys. Its bright and fun with lots of features.

Bathtime Play Set

DO NOT BUY THIS TOY!!I purchased this toy for my 2 year old nephew as a Christmas present. In the listing photo it looks like it is made of hard plastic, but looks can be deceiving! When it arrived in the mail, I discovered that the boat and life ring are both made of very flimsy plastic, the kind that is hollow and you can easily squish or crush in your hand (like really cheap plastic play food). The two men are of a slightly better quality (not squishy at least), but are still made of a very cheap, thin plastic. I was going to return the toy, but discovered that although my money would be refunded, it would cost me almost as much in shipping as I originally paid for the item so I wouldn't really end up getting my money back. Instead, I will end up giving this toy to my nephew, but he will probably destroy it the first time he plays with it. What a disappointment. Buyer beware!

Only toy our toddler likes in the bathtub! He plays with it every time he takes a bath. Great toy!

Munchkin Pelican Rinser

I bought this because it's so much cuter than a rinse cup & my daughter seemed to like it...BUT...I had to spend too much time cleaning it weekly. Not sure if others have noticed but it does get moldy in the cracks & is extremely difficult to clean because of the shape. I threw it away & started using a plastic cup & guess what??? my daughter plays with that as well!!

Too expensive & difficult to clean so not worth the money.

The lip extends so far over the opening that I cannot see the water poring out. It causes me to not be able to accurately pour the water and avoid getting it in my child's eyes, which is the whole point.

We had SO many toddler toys after babysitting our first grandson for our second to play with, we thought adding to the collection of bath toys would be a good idea for #2's first birthday. We're lucky that both of our "munchkins" thoroughly enjoy bathtime, and not only is this darling pelican great for rinsing, it's also perfect for storing some of his little bath squirters! Sometimes it's a little scary when a baby graduates in our case, from the confined space of the kitchen sink! -to an adult bathtub, which must feel like an ocean to them! Colorful, fun bath toys are a good way to ease the transition. I sometimes bathe both boys together when I'm short on time, and even Big Brother enjoys the new assortment of toys. So truthfully a large plastic cup is just fine for rinsing soap out of hair, but what are baby showers for if not to get ridiculously adorable items you wouldn't otherwise justify spending money on? We got this as a shower gift and I love it.

Pros:

Hole on top makes it easy to fill.

Holds a decent enough amount of water to rinse baby's hair but not so much that it's heavy.

Sturdy plastic means it doesn't bow with pressure (like a plastic drinking cup might).

Cute, I could see this transitioning into a toy when my daughter is older.

Cons:

Not easy to clean out. Pelican's mouth isn't wide enough to get your hand in super easily and it's shape means there are some little cracks that you can't reach. I haven't had the build up others have mentioned, but I'd suggest maybe turning it upside down to drain after use and a bottle brush?

Crocoglock Xylophone Musical Toy

It's already driving me insane having to repeatedly put the keys back on for my little ones. And the toy is rather lightweight. But the notes are clear and lovely and I am pleased to finally find something pentatonic and toddler (relatively anyway) friendly. So, yeah, a 3 star toy.

Fisher-Price Go Baby Go! Bounce & Spin Zebra

We just got this in the mail two days ago and my son loves it. My son was so excited and wanted to get on it before I even had it put together. It's a very cool and innovative idea. It's very easy to assemble as long as you have a screwdriver. I think my son is tall for his age but he is still on his toes unless he has shoes on. He has fallen a couple times when he's not paying attention or holding something instead of holding on but hasn't hurt himself.

My daughter first saw this toy at her daycare and loved it right away. (So did many of the other children at her daycare, the line to play is always long) We decided she'd like one for home so she got it as a gift for her 1st birthday.

Like other reviewers have said she was so excited that she wanted to ride on it while I was putting it together. She plays with it everyday and even her 4 year old sister loves to play with her. The 4 year old is too big too ride it, but she loves to stand behind her sister and push on the zebra's sneakers to help my 1 year old bounce.

At 1, my daughter's feet barely touch the floor so to make it bounce she either needs her sisters help or she bounces her butt in the seat (not using her feet). The only problem with her bouncing in the seat is the toy tends to slide forward with each bounce. But even with it sliding it has never tipped and with the extra wide base I don't think that it will be a problem.

She can get off the zebra with no problem (which is adorable to watch) but getting back on she needs a little boost. With the way kids grow though I'm sure she'll be able to do it on her own real soon.

This is a great toy to grow with. My good friend's son, who is 2, has one and still plays with his all the time. My 4 year old daughter would LOVE to ride on it, but she's close to the weight limit so we won't let her. But that says a lot for how fun the toy is when its appealing from age 1 to age 4.

The songs the toy plays are cute, and it also makes som galloping and horse breathing noises that are really funny. It has 2 volume levels to chose from which is also nice. The barrel in the front has beads that spin around and lights that flash. My 1 year old loves that part just as much as the bouncing.

We bought this for our baby's first birthday. It has been three months now and she has used it every single day!! Once she learned to get on it (she figured it out the first day) she was riding away. It is also very amusing to watch, so everyone is entertained with this toy. When I looked at the box I was worried about it tipping, but that has not happened and I do not see how it could. The base is heavy and wide, yet it does not take up alot of room. If you have a baby who is very active I highly recommend this Zebra.

This Zebra is adorable and a great gift for little ones, but not oversized, rough'n'tumble tots like my son. We bought this for him for Christmas when he was 18 months old and it seemed like he was to big for it. He's a tall tot and he plays rough for such a little guy, and when he got on this thing it took a beating. When he bounced on it the thing bottomed out everytime, I thought for sure he was gonna brake it. It did however hold up to the abuse. He lost interest in it very fast, I think party because he's to big and it didn't bounce the way it should. We decided to give it to his cousin, she's the same age but much more petite and gentle so it worked out better for her.

My fifteen month son loves his newest toy. He climbs all over it and bounces all day. Well, not really all day but he loves to bounce. This is a great toy for all little ones. Fisher-Price Brilliant Basics Rock-a-Stack

We received this as a gift. When I gave it to my 8 month old son, blue dye was all over his mouth and hands. I called Fisher Price to complain and they stated that they have not recalled the product since the dye was non toxic. They then refused to tell me what was in the blue paint. I did a search online and this problem has been ongoing since April 2009. WHY WAS THIS NOT RECALLED???

I called the fisher-price customer service line to ask if this product contained bisphenol-a (deemed toxic recently by Canada) and they refused to answer stating the content was a trade secret and spouting off a rehearsed line stating that the FDA had not found reason for concern about this type of plastic (in the two major studies conducted by them that were, surprise, funded by the plastics industry). I thanked them and bought something else, the Melissa and Doug stacker made of wood and lead-free paint. Fisher-price, shame on you for not being upfront about this. Get used to the question because American consumers are getting educated about this possible very dangerous plastic in our children's toys, baby bottles, Nalgene bottles and lining 95% of the canned food and soda we drink. If you aren't already aware of this danger, educate yourself and find out why Europe and Canada are removing it from food products and children's products.

I purchased the Rock-a-Stack for my 6 month old son on Friday April 3,2009. I came home to wash the product and soon realized the water I was washing it in was blue. Then my hands and arms were stain blue. I was very grateful that I washed this product before giving it to my son. Who knows what type of paint Fisher-Price uses and even if they say it is non-toxic as parents I am sure we don't want our children getting the paint in their mouth. I scrubbed the blue ring for a couple of minutes and there is still dye coming off of the ring. I can't imagine if I gave this to my son, his clothes, skin, blankets, and our carpet would have been stained blue.

I DO NOT recommend this product and I hope this is taken off the shelves at stores ASAP!

This is a rip off. I bought my replacement parts directly from the manufacturer for $5. You can go to fisher price website and buy all of these replacement parts yourself without the middleman. I am sure that is where they also bought the parts they are selling you and are just marking them up to make a profit.

Hape Eco Toys / Jungle Music Baby Instrument Set

This toy is extremely well made, I can't stress that enough. The paint is bright and very inviting too. The actual toys, well.... they are simple, but at least for my daughter and her older cousin (8months and 3yrs old), just not engaging enough to hold thier interest for long, but it might work well for your child. I really try hard to find the balance between electronic toys and basic, imaginative toys like this, but for us, it just didn't fit the bill. My nephew played with it for a few minutes and then moved on. When I asked him why he stopped playing, he said it didn't make ..."the fun kind of sounds he wanted it to." Both children have other wooden toys that keep them interested. It's a shame because I really loved the look and quality of this toy, but since neither child seemed to have much fun with it, I took it back. I'm now on the hunt for better wooden musical instruments. My 3 star rating is more for the quality of the product than the play value my daughter and nephew experienced while playing with it.

*BTW, this toy can be found for less than $13 at regular price at BRU OR TRU, which beats Amazon's price by a good few dollars.

This toy is well-constructed. I thought my one-year-old would have a blast making music with it, but it is her nearly 3-year-old sister that ran away with it! Mostly with the ribbed part and the little drumsticks and they're used in her kitchen as well.

DO NOT GIVE THIS UNSAFE TOY TO YOUR CHILD. While getting my daughter ready for bed, I discovered that her tongue black. I tried to clean it, but it would not come off at all I asked grandma if she ate any prunes for the day? No (not that the organic food I feed her should have any dye). Grandma said that all day she played and chewed on this new elephant she got. I decided to examine the elephant and was shocked and enraged to see that when i wiped the flag on the top of the elephants nose, yellow and red dye easily got onto the washcloth. This manufacter will be hearing from me and I will ensure that this toy doesnt get into the hands or mouth of any other babies!

I really like this toy, but it is a little big for what I had wanted it for. I wanted to be able to take it in the stroller and car, but like I said it is larger then most stroller toys. over all it will be great for her to use in the home.

He's machine washable, colorful, and well, Tigger! My daughter has had (and loved) him from birth, and he still looks pretty new! Someone gave us a duplicate which is waiting patiently in a closet for our next child, so I have him to compare to. VERY durable.

My baby loves this tigger. She laughs at him and bites his nose for kisses. She has abused this guy for 14 month's now and he still looks new! He is very durable, even for teething babies, and he is so darn cute! The perfect size and shape for young hands. He is also a very nice color orange. You simply can not go wrong with this Tigger as one of your babies first stuffed animals. A must have!

My daughter loves this guy! Tigger goes everywhere with us. Even dad loves tigger. I know the bright orange color and black stripes helped when her vision came in. She starred at him for hours. Madame Alexander 18" Strawberry Shortcake Cloth Doll

This Strawberry Shortcake doll was just what we were looking for...perfect in every way. We gave it to our daughter for her first birthday and she loves it, sleeps with it every night. If you want a well-made, beautiful cloth doll, you won't be disappointed in this one.

We purchased this doll as a Christmas gift for my daughter over 3 years ago. She hasn't slept a night without it since. It holds up well to washing (and long since lost it's strawberry smell). I will say that I have had to re-attach the hat with needle and thread more times than I care to count (definitely more than 10), so that's kind of frustrating. She has also lost some of her hair. But to be honest, the only reason I was on this page was that I was thinking of buying a replacement, so I would say I definitely recommend it!

Strawberry Shortcake is a well designed doll with detailed features and durable construction. She has a very distinct "strawberry" scent which is discernible right after you take her out of the package. The manufacturers description states that she is a toy which is "safe for all ages" has held true as all her features are designed in a way that prevents any possible choking hazards.

Overall this toy is probably better suited for older children (or collectors) who understand Strawberry Shortcake as a character because it does not provide much entertainment value as a stand-alone doll (as compared to the traditional baby doll). My daughters (ages 1 and 2) have played with her briefly but typically shun Strawberry Shortcake in favor of their other dolls.

I rated this item 4 stars because I think it's well designed and it's durable enough to survive the typical rough play. I would have rated it higher, but I don't think the entertainment value is high enough for younger kids to warrant a 5 star rating. In addition the dolls head is large (like the character), but it makes balancing her precarious which tended to be a point of frustration for my older daughter.

Occasionally, I'll buy something online or through a catalog because the picture of the item looks so good. When it arrives, it's a disappointment when the item doesn't really match the catalog photo and is cheaply or inexpertly made.

I'm happy to report this did not happen with this Strawberry Shortcake doll. This doll looks better than the photo (more detailed) and is solidly made. It feels like an old-fashioned doll -both in style and construction.

The doll has the perfume-y, slightly unreal scent of strawberries, but it isn't overwhelming. It's a pleasant odor, really. I'm not sure how long the scent will last, but I'm not sure how important that is, anyway.

My mom has collected Madame Alexander dolls for around 40 years. I showed her this doll and she really gave it a thorough going-over. Mom thought it was great and ended up buying one for one of my nieces for Christmas.

Imaginarium 5-Way Giant Bead Maze Cube

I bought his toy from Toys R Us for 59.99, It was very disappointing. Although, my sixteen month old was intrigued by the maze, the xylophone attached to the side may have just as well have been a block of wood. They do not work or make any sound remotely having to do with a note. For the price, it is really not worth the money. I can't believe they are selling this for over 100.00 on this site.

My son fell and hit his face on the corner of this last night and ended up with 7 stitches in his face. The corners are very sharp. I would not recommend this product.

Bought this as one of the presents for my twins when they turned 1. We like it because its tall and has multiple sides so they can share!! Which is a major plus! I like wooden toys but the xylophone should NOT be wooden for obvious reasons because it barely makes noise because of this and I was looking forward to that part because I thought they would really like it. Right now my 15 months old do not use the magnets, wooden sticks or white board but maybe in a few more months they will. Its a good toy BUT I was disappointed when I went to Target a month later and saw a very similar version for half the price!!

The bead maze in this toy is hard for little ones because of the shapes of the animals they get stuck and it's hard for this age range to manipulate it. Being that it's wood, it dents super easy and my kids didn't care about any of the side activities except the xylophone but they lost the mallet and it eventually just started taking up space so we got rid of it.

I got this at Toys 'R Us for $39.99 last week, my one-year old loves it. It's her go-to toy in her play room for sure. There's so many things to keep her busy, it encourages standing and walking around the cube as she looks for various beads and items to move. She loves the magnet board on the side, the Abacus-type counting beads, maze game, and pretty much everything else. It's well made and easy to set-up. A great toy for a 1 year-old for sure! It's a pleasure watching her work on it!

Heart Glow Baby, Baby's First, Yellow

My 16 month old daughter adores this baby doll. It's her favorite thing she got for Christmas and its so easy for her to push the heart to make it light up. Sometimes we get these light up toys that she would have to struggle or step on to. And my fav thing about it is its soft so she can sleep with it every ight without laying and cuddling a hard bodied plastic doll.
