Peek-a-Blocks Discovery: Barnyard Friends Blocks
This set is my particular favorite along with the transportation set. The animals are very cute.
On the ends of each block is a texture. Within each block is something interesting. And many blocks have an activity associated with itpush a button to make a noise, twist a knob to make something turn around etc.
The one thing I would warn is that these blocks do not stack well, particularly in tall towers. So if you are thinking of buying these for tower building, I'd consider a different set of blocks. Otherwise, these are excellent toys.
They provide a basis for communication and vocubulary building with your child. They are sturdy and encourage language, eye hand coordination and so on.
If you enjoy toys that are fairly quiet, do more than have a push button to make a noise, foster independent creative play and exploration of the world this is an excellent toy.
Enjoy.Though the product says the blocks are suitable for babies as young as 6-months, keep in mind they are talking about how safe they are! Not necessarily that the kid will like them that early! (They may and they may not.)
I bought a different set of 6 blocks for my daughter because *I* found them adorable. In the beginning, she just wasn't feeling them. Even when she was old enough to hold and examine them, I think I found them more interesting than she!
BUT... after putting the blocks out of sight for a while, then pulling them back out, she's much more in love with them! Remember that kids develop at different stages, not to mention, they are little humans and simply have different tastes and interests!
My advice: don't write these blocks off as not very good simply because your child doesn't like them. Start with one small set and (re)introduce it to your child at intervals. After the age of 12-18-months, they may be into them a whole lot more!

Before my 3 year old was born I saw these and bought them, I thought the were just too cute. When she was a tiny baby she liked to lick and suck on them, as she grew she played with them occasionally. The items inside were not as interesting to her as I thought they would be. The toy did not engage her, though her older sister enjoyed playing with them from the ages of 4-6. I just packed up my set and will be donating them to her school. I thought she would have become more engaged with them by now.Would make a great gift idea, but never know if it will be THE toy. Don't be disappointed if you child seems less than interested. As a parent, I loved them.

It's a great concept but not worth the money. Some of the tasks don't go a long way toward teaching kids the skills the task is designed to teach. It looks like it was designed in a hurry, without much thought or testing and should be marketed for considerably less money.Read Best Reviews of My Quiet Book, Fabric Activity Book for Children Here
This is one of the few self contained toys we have. Everything is attached! It travels well. I bought it for my daughter when she was 1 and she mostly undid everything. At 2, she's just now being able to work the buttons, snaps, etc. I had a homemade version as a kid and remembered that it got a lot of use. The only problem with this one was that some of the fabric pulled away from the stitching. Amazon replaced it before I had a chance to return the original.Want My Quiet Book, Fabric Activity Book for Children Discount?
This toy is durable! It has survived my 10 year old son's early childhood, and now has (so far) survived my 3 year old daughter's attacks. Both children love it, but as others have mentioned, some pieces are loose and it takes perserverence to keep it together. My cure is that I hide it except for trips to the doctors and other appointments. This makes it a "special" toy, and it is easier to keep track of the parts. Many bright pages of colors keep their interest, and though they love pulling out the snap-on pieces, they are difficult for little one's to snap on. The velcro balloons that are attached are my daughter's (and mine) favorite part. The buckle is too difficult for her, but she loves putting her hand in the glove and unzipping the lady-bug to find "baby" lady bugs. I feel the positives far outweigh the negatives and highly recommend this toy--after all, if she is not losing these pieces under the couch, she would be losing her barbie car keys, lego pieces, building blocks, lincoln logs (etc) under the couch.Wednesday, June 4, 2014

K's Kids Press and Go Inchworm Rattle
Loooooooove it, and my daughter plays with it often.
My only minor complaints are that the push down mechanism is not that easy for a baby to learn it does require pressure that a tiny hand just cannot figure out. So she plays with it as a rattle but I have to make it 'go'.
Also, the description suggests that the heads shakes. Well it doesn't shake on its own or during movement but you can rotate it manually.I got this for my 17 month son. He loves it. It is a fun rattle, that he likes to shake, and I'm teaching him to press on it. Once pressed it rolls for a long time on the hardwood floors, but much shorter on the carpet. Also, I like the fact that it's not all plastic. The head and tail are made of soft material. I highly recommend it.

Ring-a-thing
I was hesitant to purchase this game because it looked... well boring. But I found it intriguing all the same the idea of a game that is made for toddlers. Specifically, a game that is simple in its rules, and has large enough pieces to not pose a risk. I took a chance, having read so many glowing reviews. In hindsight, I might have just stuck with my intuition.
The pieces to this game are quite nice. They all have that fantastic silky-smooth Haba finish, are brightly-colored, and they're much larger than most of the teeny tiny wooden Haba toys we own. The rings measure, from smallest to largest: 1.8", 2.25", 2.5" diameter. The people are 2.7" tall and .8" diameter, and the dice is a 1.25" cube much larger than a standard die.
The downside is that the gameplay options (there are 3) included in the instructions are boring, boring, boring. Not for me, mind you; I might well have expected that, but for my two-year old. We've tried all three at various times and only end up with her walking away, baffled at how so much die-rolling can result in so little action.
Allow me to pare them down to their essentials for the purposes of demonstration.
Game 1: Place all people and rings in the center of the table. Each player rolls the die and places a corresponding ring on the people. If all rings of that color are used up, roll again. Game is over when all the rings have been distributed. The game suggests you can then offer a reward of dancing in a circle, but my toddler recommends, instead, running away and refusing to have any more of this nonsense.
Game 2: Select a person. Roll the die to try to get the same color as the person you have chosen. Didn't get the right color? Pity! You cannot take a ring! (Yes, I'm quoting there). Pity, indeed says my toddler. After 5 rounds where neither of us rolled our correct color, she said, "Pity! This game is over, mom!" (I'm paraphrasing there.)
Game 3: Choose a person, stack five rings of various colors on the person. Each player rolls the dice until the color on the die matches the top ring, remove the ring, and so on. Of course, we didn't even get to die-rolling on this one, because the idea of rings of various colors stacked on a person with a different color hat was (hello!) one of those things that offends a rigid, rule-driven, tantrum-prone toddler's sensibilities. "No! No! No!" she howled, and quickly removed and reassembled the rings in their correct size and color order with the correct people.
Now, I'm not necessarily precluding the idea that a game could, with a little thought, be conjured, effectively using these cool game pieces in a way which might allow a faster-paced, fun game. After a failed attempt on each of the prescribed games, I began brainstorming, and have come up with a few alternative methods where participation would be virtually guaranteed on each roll of the die, foregoing the whole, "Pity! All you got to do this turn was roll the die!" structure that annoyingly pervades all playing options which came with the game.
However, I feel it's only fair to base the rating of the game on the merit of what it provides pre-improvisation, and not on its possible potential beyond what presented in the immediate sense. And so, while the individual pieces of the game have provided some mild amusement in a roleplay/imagination form, I feel the game playing end is sorely lacking, and not well thought out for the age group for which its intended. Also, it's really quite expensive and I say that having gotten it at 20% off. I understand the whole German wooden safe toy correlation, but I was hoping more for a game, and less for a few pricey, aesthetically pleasing wooden pieces.
A better game, in my opinion, is Haba's Zitternix, which my two year old is surprising capable of joining in on and enjoying, and which allows for a guaranteed corresponding action for each roll of the die, keeping things a bit more exciting. I think continual active participation in a game is key for maintaining interest at this age.HABA toys tend to be on the smaller side, but I was actually pleasantly surprised when this toy arrived. The pieces are large and chunky, making it so the men don't easily topple over as my toddler plays the game. This provides a just-right challenge for my 23-month-old. From playing this game, he readily understands the concepts of turn-taking, following the direction of the dice, and size/color differences. This has been a valuable addition to our toy collection, and my son always asks to play again and again. We bought this for a two-year old. Though he had many presents, this was definately his favorite. He just found endless things to do with the various elements.

BuckleyBoo Turtle
In general, this toy was ill-conceived, and I can't even return it because I threw away the clear plastic bag that it came in. I rarely buy something new for my daughter (I buy a lot of her toys at yard sales) and this total waste of money makes me ill.
Their ridiculous return policy (purchased from the company directly) and the poor design of this toy caused me to rate this product with only one star.

Hape Eco Toys / Jungle Music Baby Instrument Set
*BTW, this toy can be found for less than $13 at regular price at BRU OR TRU, which beats Amazon's price by a good few dollars. This toy is well-constructed. I thought my one-year-old would have a blast making music with it, but it is her nearly 3-year-old sister that ran away with it! Mostly with the ribbed part and the little drumsticks and they're used in her kitchen as well.

Horse Bigmouth Puppet
There was no bridle, which was the main reason I chose this puppet.
It simply was not as pictured, which was disappointing.I was very disappointed to get something OTHER than the picture. The puppet I was sent is similar but DOES NOT have the red muzzle and has a much smaller, lighter brown mane than the nice full dark mane in the photo.
That being said, the build of the puppet seems durable I just hope they change the PICTURE to show what you're really getting.

This was a big hit at my son's party! It is 6 feet tall! Make sure to allow yourself enough time to set it up. In the product picture it looks like it's all one piece. Turns out it actually comes in 5 pieces. The top banner is 3 pieces. Elmo, Cookie Monster and "Happy Birthday" are all their own pieces. The bottom portion comes in 2 large parts. It's pretty easy to line up but does take some time. I would also recommend turning the flash off on your camera to use it for photos, as it does shine and the flash creates a glare. It was about the thickness of a thin tablecloth but worked perfect against a white wall. The kids loved getting their pictures taken next to the characters. I took it down carefully and refolded. Will definitely use again.Saturday, October 26, 2013
The World of Eric Carle: Developmental Frog with Sound by Kids Preferred
Buy The World of Eric Carle: Developmental Frog with Sound by Kids Preferred Now
My son loves this toy! It is brightly colored so it gets his attention. It has places to chew on and since he is teething that is a must. It is also easy to clean which is great since some of his other toys are not so easy to clean. He loves to squeeze it and hear the ribbit sound. This helps him to associate the ribbit sound with frogs. It is very durable and a good size for small hands. It is not to small that it would be hard for his little fingers (without much dexterity) to hold onto but not so big that he couldn't hold it in one hand. It is light weight and easily attached to carseats, highchairs, etc.Read Best Reviews of The World of Eric Carle: Developmental Frog with Sound by Kids Preferred Here

We found out our daughter had torticollis when she was 2 months old (she has one neck muscle shorter than the other, which causes her to look in the same direction all the time). We needed to do exercises and structured play with her at home, with a focus on getting her to actively turn her head from side to side. At 2mos, she was not interested in many toys, and we had a lot of trouble. We received this frog as a gift, and it has been a life saver! The bright color and ribbit sound made this the only toy our daughter would follow for weeks (we have a slew of Lamaze and Eric C development toys this is the winner). We even bring it to physical therapy because she is so good at following it. This is my go-to baby gift!
If you are struggling with torticollis I strongly recommend this toy. Another good one is the Fisher Price crawl-along snail.
