Alphabet Nesting & Stacking Blocks

Yes, I played with a similar set and these "stacked up" nicely against them. Sturdy cardboard and should be able to take a beating. Paid more for shipping than the product though but considering I would have to drive 32 miles to the store that sells this brand it was worth it that I didn't have to leave the house.Read Best Reviews of Alphabet Nesting & Stacking Blocks Here
I was excited about these blocks and I heard good things about them. They are cheap even plus shipping they are less than most other blocks. They arrived timely and actually much sooner than I expected. BUT, they are in poor condition they dont look new, and there is some sticky stuff on one of the blocks. I dont see these lasting in the long run. I'm pretty disappointed because these are the second set of blocks I've tried and failed on. First I tried the Melissa and Doug wooden animal blocks and those broke apart instantly. Now these are in poor condition. Sigh :/Saturday, June 28, 2014

B. Hellophone - Mango/Solid
Buy B. Hellophone - Mango/Solid Now
Our 16-month-old grandson was constantly wanting to play with his parents' smartphones, so when they came to visit we had this waiting for him. He loved it! It opens and closes easily, pushing the buttons makes tones and plays songs, and (best of all) we were able to record a message for him on one of the buttons ourselves! They stayed with us for a week and this little play phone was carried around, talked to, and played with more than any of the other toys we had for him it was a real favorite! Highly recommended by this grandmother!Read Best Reviews of B. Hellophone - Mango/Solid Here
I bought this for my toddler, but my 7 year old niece seems to enjoy it more. She mainly uses it for the record feature. She likes to record a message privately and then give it to someone to see how they will respond. She thinks it's quite funnylike a watered down version of crank calling. My toddler rarely reaches for this toy.Pros:
Beautiful packaging
Sturdy
Easy for small hands to manipulate
Attractive design
Cons:
Not very engaging for my toddler
Product highlight said that "Parents can record and lock messages for kids to discover". I thought this meant that I would be able to record several messages for my daughter. It only allows you to record one short message at a time.
Product highlight also says: "3 pre-recorded messages", when it only comes with 2. Maybe they are including the message you record yourself?I like it just fine. My son likes it too. I wish there was a button to turn on/off the automatic rings that happens right after you snap the phone close. Other than that, a good toy phone.

Developlay Activity Center
Buy Developlay Activity Center Now
This toy has been great. The two sides offer a ton of different things my son can play with. He loves the little stuffed toy that pops out of the center and will open and close it's door for hours. It also offers different "activities" that infants can play with as they develop. My son would spend more time with one piece of the toy for awhile and as he got older would start playing with other pieces more. It definitely grows with them. My son is 11 months now and has been playing with this since about 5 months. This toy has both good and bad features. The colors and activities are good, but it would be nice to find a toy that does not have flashing lights. In low light, it's a strobe light and, in my opinion, too bright for any benefit gained. In fact, am wondering what the benefit really is in so many toys having the flashing light features....this seems to be the trend in toys available today. Anyone out there know the answer to this?My daughter really enjoys this toy and plays with it every day. It seems like a simple toy, but that may be the best thing about it. I would say it is one of the best buys I made as far as baby toys. One thing I didn't expect were the great music buttons on the other side. That part of the center is sort of like a Mozart Music Cube, only better (even though there are only three instruments).Sunday, December 29, 2013

Buy LeapFrog® Brightlings Builders Now
We bought these along with the brightlings matchers for our 8 month old and she really likes them. She is too young to really play with them but they do attract her as she will reach for them when presented with many toy options. As mentioned in my matchers review they are great for the diaper bag because they are small and offer a distraction when needed. I think for the price they are a good value.Read Best Reviews of LeapFrog® Brightlings Builders Here
My 7 month old son was INSTANTLY excited by these toys.Again these are a PERFECT size for him to grab and manipulate.
Right now he loves to knock them over if I stack them, or just have them piled in his lap and kick, grab and toss around.Quite simply, this toy is boring. Just something else for you to step on. Doesn't hold my child's interest for even a minute. Waste of money.

Lamaze Early Development Toy, Captain Calamari
The legs are lovely to chew on, the hat makes nice crinkly noises when clinched in teeny fists, and the secret mirror between his teNtacles (careful spelling that) is always a happy surprise while slobbering on the plastic teething rings.
The Captain is bigger than I expected, making him actually cuddly, which is great.
The noises he emits when being played with are never annoying, which is much appreciated.
He can entertain both sexes without lacking personality, unlike some gender-neutral toys...I am looking at you Mr. Plain Yellow Duck.
I tip my hat to the Captain for allowing me to wash the dishes for a FULL 20 minutes to the sounds of a delighted and entertained baby.I have several of the Lamaze Play and Grow toys. This is one of the better ones. My baby got this around 4.5 months and is now 6.5 months. The tentacles are nice for chewing on. He really likes the felt feather in the hat. The rings are probably his favorite part of this toy because they are easy to hold and he can chew on them. He's getting better at grabbing the rattle ball. The mirror does nothing for him, surprisingly. Over all, the toy is very cute and kinda reminds me of Captain Jack Sparrow which makes a lot of adults that see it like it as well.
As far as comparing it to the other Lamaze Play in Grow Toys we have, I'd probably rank them in this order:
1. Jacques the Peacock (excellent toy and perfect length to hang off the side of my diaper bag, I highly recommend)
2. Freddie the Firefly (very good length to hang off the stroller visor)
3. Captain Calamari
4. Tina the Tiger
5. Logan the Lion

My son has had this for a few months now and LOVES it. However, the other day I noticed that there is a "wire like" piece of material sticking out of the tentacle where the ball hangs. It is very sharp and could easily break skin so please be aware. It sticks out on the part where it is tied. Please check yours and make sure it is fine before giving it to your baby.Read Best Reviews of Lamaze Early Development Toy, Captain Calamari Here
This toy is super cute and actually a bit larger than I thought it would be. It holds my sons interest for a while. He loves the two rings and the mirror on the bottom of it. The ball attached makes a rattle noise which is cool. I love how I can hook this to my sons stroller with no problem. Would definitely recommend to a friend.Want Lamaze Early Development Toy, Captain Calamari Discount?
This little toy is adorable and has a great concept, however; my son was never really interested in it so for me it was a waste. that doesn't discredit the quality though.Sunday, November 3, 2013

Corolle Mon Premier Calin Naima Baby Doll
Unfortunately like another reviewer mentioned, she does seem to be a little light on the stuffing. She is our fifth calin doll and she is by far the most floppy. When I get a chance I will be slipping the stitches on her back and stuffing some more fiberfill into her. I purchased this one because it was on sale, I wanted the one in the red outfit, though. This outfit did turn out to be cuter in real life.I bought this doll for my daughters first birthday. She has another Corolle doll that she loves but I wanted to get her a dark skinned baby to love as well. Every time I would bring the picture up on the comuter she got so excited! Once we got it she was so happy to see the baby in person! It is a beautiful doll. I sort of wish it did not look like she was sticking her tongue out but that is not too big of a deal. I am sure this baby will be well loved by my daughter!

I bought this doll to replace the one my daughter lost. She loved it so much so we got the exact same doll she had before, but it seems lighter than her old one like it has less stuffing in it and her head is very loose and turns just with gravity. Her old one didn't do that. These things give me the feeling it is not as well made as the older version we had. I could be wrong though. If we hadn't had the older version, we would think this one was great.Read Best Reviews of Corolle Mon Premier Calin Naima Baby Doll Here
we already own a Caucasian 'premier calin' corolle, and I thought it would be fun for my tot to have one of another race. I can't understand the decline in quality. Doll can't sit up unless head is in its lap. Clothes are of thinner material than other doll's.Sending it back! I should have listened to other reviews. I am going to try buying the 'earlier model' of Naima thru ebay and see if it's better quality.
*****************
OK, so I should have updated. I did try to send the doll back, but the company, I think called Kaplan, refused to have it back and insisted on giving a refund, tho I told them it wasn't of unacceptable, merely disappointing quality. no, they said, have the money back and don't return the doll. So we kept it. Well, it's true that it's floppy with thin clothes. But i have to tell you that my daughter LOVES the doll, and I feel a bit weird about that, given that we ended up with it as a freebie! she invents stories about this doll all the time, took it to Europe (and she was only allowed to take one doll with her) etc etc. In general, she spends more time with her, and thinking about her, than with the Caucasian one. As for her flopping over, she just accepts that. And as for her clothes, my daughter prefers to strip the clothes off her dolls anyway, so she never has her clothed, and she doesn't even notice that. So there we have it! I can't say whether I'd buy another , say, as a gift, but clearly the doll has brought a lot of pleasure to my kid.

I bought this for my 2 year old daughter. Here are some pros and cons...PROS:
Price We have more expensive Corolle dolls, but we caught this one on sale.
Black doll It's hard to find a quality doll that is not white. There just aren't as many options out there.
Portable Unlike the 14 inch Bebe Charmeur, my daughter can carry this one around comfortably in her arms.
Pretty She is prettier in person than she looks on the web. We are pleased.
CONS:
Stuffing It IS light on stuffing, so she is floppier than the Charmeur doll. My daughter doesn't notice or care, of course.
Neck You can feel a neck bar through the stuffing. The Charmeur doll doesn't have this. I think it's weird.
Hair The hair color is airbrushed on. I would have preferred some painted hair, but maybe I am expecting too much.
For what we paid of her, I am totally satisfied. This is a good doll for a young child.
UPDATE: I did actually open her up and add some stuffing, which gives her a much better weight and feel. She was just too floppy. It only took 5 minutes to do this, but really, you don't expect to have to do this with a Corolle doll.

Munchkin Dolphin Divers Bath Toy

I bought this for my grandsons, they are 13 months and 14 months old.It did not keep their attention for more than a few seconds.
Not worth the money in my opinion. After being disappointed with a variety of bath toys, I found this one! My 2 y/o enjoys it more than any other bath toy -and so do I! The suction cup does work well -it stayed suctioned to the tub even when my nephew would tip it over. The concept is that you fill the whale with water and dump the water in the tray at the top. As the water leaves the tray, it spins the wheel with the whales on it. It's fun to watch. It WORKS!!! (unlike a number of bath toys I've reviewed). My nephew wasn't as interested in filling the whale as in filling other containers and dumping the water in -maybe because he could get more water in the others. It's the best bath toy I've come across -and it's very inexpensive.
Discovery Kids Teach 'n' Talk Exploration Laptop
But, we discovered something that surprised us even: Many of these games are recycled from 30 years ago! We have what's called a "V-Tech Smart Start Advantage" (1980, bought it at a garage sale for 25¢), and it has some of the exact same games!
So, two things every consumer needs to know about these laptop toys:
#1) Despite the packaging (whether the toy looks like a laptop, an iPhone, etc), these LCD screen toys are old technologies that don't change, but are being repackaged to look more modern. I predict they will soon repackage the same thing to look like a Kindle, e-book reader, iPad, etc. But it's the same toy from the 1980's.
Which leads to #2: This product is recommended for 6 years+. HOWEVER, if your child has ever seen a REAL laptop, Wii, iPhone, etc., they will get bored with this in 30 seconds. In other words, by the time they're old enough to use the educational games, they will have outgrown the technology. Let me be perfectly clear: If your 4, 5, or 6 year old is tech savvy, they WILL get bored with this. My 5-year-old nephew spent exactly FIVE SECONDS with this, then went back to his train set.
I actually recommend this product for 9-36 months (and give it 3½ stars for that age range). Here's why:
I've already said our 30-year-old V-tech does essentially the same thing. But we were drawn to the Discovery laptop anyway because it looks like a realistic laptop. We have a 12-month-old, and when mommy & daddy are working on laptops, she wants one too!
So please FORGET about this toy for the intended audience (6+), and I will continue with the review assuming it's for a toddler:
========
PROS:
The Discovery laptop has a real keyboard, with the tactile "stroke" of hitting real keys, which most other toys (including our 1980's V-Tech) do not have. And it has a fake mouse, a fake touchpad, etc., which make it look and feel like a real laptop. Perfect for our 12-month old.
Also, we like the black/white LCD screen (instead of a real computer screen) because there's no radiation, and full color computer screens mess with brain chemistry levels in children. So it's a healthier/safer option for kids. And they can run on very low energy (just 2 AA batteries).
It has 64 games, which is nice, even though our daughter will outgrow it before she will understand most of the games. One of the games is musical instruments, so each key represents a different instrument bagpipes, steel drum, french horn, oboe, etc.
The screen pivots, which is a neat feature but I can already tell the hinge will wear out fast. And the speakers/sound level is great impressive, actually.
CONS:
No AC adapter (2 AA batteries).
Does not turn off automatically when closed. It does, however, time-out after 5 minutes.
The LCD screen is temperature sensitive you cannot see it in cold weather. The screen is dim to start with, and if the batteries are low it will fade quickly. And it's small (2" x 4.25"). Please be aware of this, as some of the product photos are a bit misleading 2x4" is just barely larger than a credit card.
BOTTOM LINE:
We ended up buying the Discovery Kids Laptop at Bed Bath & Beyond on clearance ($9.99 + $5.00 off coupon + $5.00 gift card = our final cost of 4¢). The price was right for us! I realize that the current price point on Amazon for these kids laptops (regardless of brand) is $30-$60, but I personally believe the price point should be $10-$20.
It's chinsy, but our 12-month-old is happy with it.Update! Over a year later (11/11/2012) and this laptop still works just fine! I've only replaced the batteries once or twice (occasional use, not daily). I think my son will still enjoy this a year from now. :)
It seems my son's goal in life is to destroy my laptop at any means possible lol, so I purchased this laptop (used) in the hopes it would distract him from mine. It does exactly what I purchased it for, distract him, and now my laptop can sit here without fear of being crushed, thrown, hit, all those great things that rowdy little boys love to do. I'm not sure how it would work for older kids who want to actually play the games on it. My son is 19 months old. I was thinking of attaching shiny mirrors and/or stickers to the area without a screen so it would look even more like a laptop, but I haven't had the need to. The keyboard is just like a real one. The mouse can be unplugged and is great for swinging around lol. There is a music button that plays a song over and over, and you can change the songs by pressing it again. It turns itself off after a few minutes of not being used. Only slight downfall when using it this way is that it's hard for a baby to open. You have to pull down on a button on top to open it. I put brand new batteries in the day I got it and it hasn't died or slowed down at all. I'm very happy with this and I would recommend it to anyone wanting to give their toddlers a real looking laptop to play on.

We tested 20 different "laptop" toys this Christmas, including several of the Discovery Kids laptops. They all have slightly different games, but they are all essentially the same. In fact, most of them get their LCD screens & game chips from the same manufacturers, so just the packaging is different. But, we discovered something that surprised us even: Many of these games are recycled from 30 years ago! My mother was so excited to buy this for my "soon to be" 5 year old. My daughter really wanted a computer for her birthday. When I gave it to her, she thought it looked cool and could not wait to get started. TOTALLY LAME! The games were so boring and the monotone voice just drove us crazy. Your child has to be able to read to operate the games, my daughter is about to turn 5 and is not a great reader, so that was a huge wall. Personally, I think it would not keep an older child's attention for more then a couple of minutes. My mom was heart broken and so was my little one. Don't waste your money.Saturday, September 14, 2013

We got this costume for our 1 year old and it was really cute! The only complaint I have is the same as everyone else, the head piece is too big and the antennae are floppy. It was really easy to get on and off and B was able to wear it to a couple of different halloween events.Read Best Reviews of Lil Characters Infant Bee Costume, Black/Yellow Here
I got this for my 7 month old daughter who was approximately 19 pounds when she wore this. The outfit was very warm which I liked. The feet are not connected to the outfit like it looks in the photo, they are separate black slippers. My daughter kicked them off quickly. Also, the head piece was much too big as the other reviews indicate. It slipped over her eyes so she couldn't see. Also, the antennas do not stand up on their own.I like this costume compared to other bee costumes at the stores. It looks more expensive. The wings are really cute and they have glitter on them. There is a little stinger on the back of the costume.
Don't plan on using the head piece. You will be better off getting a little headband with antennas. Too bad, because I wanted my baby's ears covered.

This costume is cute and perfect for the fall weather over here in NYC. However, the size chart is way off and inaccurate. My daughter is 15 months old, weighs about 25lbs, and is 32" tall. According to the chart-she would need a size 18-24months. The costume arrived today and it was just too big. The head piece kept falling down to her eyes and the antennas kept falling forward, the body suit was baggy. If Halloween were tomorrow I would keep it and just sew some parts smaller but since there is time-i'd rather exchange. The costume didn't look bad at all. Babies look cute either way lol. Other than that, the costume is cute. It is a warm fuzzy material and is not too thin. The antennas might be a problem regardless of the size (not sure). They seem to fall forward when she moves her head. The body suit has a zippered back and the wings clip on with buttons instead of Velcro which was great! Also, it comes with the bee slippers which fit my daughter perfect (she is a size 5.5 toddler).
