Magic Slates

Magic SlatesI was disappointed in the quality of this magic slate product for the price. It looked sturdy on the picture but is really a flimsy cardboard, not even flat. It is like the old 5 and 10 cent store magic slates with the twist that instead of pulling up to erase you slide the sheets...and they sometimes gets stuck when sliding them back into place. The best I can say is that the magic slate serves its purpose.

It's a waste of money, though it only costs under $4. It consists of a paper board that can be easily pulled out but hard to put back by a baby b/c it's a type of thin paper, so you'll have to lend a hand. The 4 colored sides are also paper and the screen is made of cheap plastic.

It looks cheap, feels cheap and only last for minutes, for it's easily tore apart by any curious 18 months old baby.

Not recommended AT ALL. It's not worth even under $1.

Buy Magic Slates Now

This arrived with the plastic all wrinkled and the way that this particular slate is built, you cannot remove the slate from the cardboard frame so there is no chance you can straighten it out so you can actually write on it. The design is so flawed compared to the other ones, I was really disappointed and had to return it. Not even worth $1 IMO

Cool product! Saves paper! Fun to use and so much cheaper and easy to carry around than a whiteboard or a magna doodle, which I was thinking of purchasing. Glad I got the Magna Slate instead. I am actually a college student and I find it very useful for writing and memorizing organic chemistry reactions.

I ordered two of these. One was in good shape. The slate slid in and out of the frame easily. On the second one, the slate was difficult to slide in and out. I teach preschool, and we use these slates as a pre-writing tool. The children need to be able to slide the slate in and out on their own. The slates need to be consistent in their ease of operation in order for young children to be able to work the slate on their own. These slates are preferable to the ones where the plastic lifts off of the slate. The plastic sheet can tear and bend. I like the idea of the slate sliding in and out of the frame.

RICH FROG Original Rubber Duck - Royal Duck

RICH FROG Original Rubber Duck - Royal DuckCanst thou, O partial sleep, give thy repose

To the wet sea-boy in an hour so rude,

And in the calmest and most stillest night,

With all appliances and means to boot,

Deny it to a king? Then happy low, lie down!

Uneasy lies the head that wears a crown.

Henry IV, Part 2, Act 3, Scene 1, 26-31

Intended as a manipulative for high school English classes, this so-called rubber ducky illustrates Henry IV's exasperation at his inability to get more than a few Zs.

However, as another reviewer has noted, this rubber ducky will not float in a manner befitting an anatid. It is possible that STEM classes can rectify this shortcoming. The only way that the product can even begin to justify its enormous price is as an educational tool for both English and STEM classes.

On the other hand, used only as a tool in English classes, the lack of floating verisimilitude might still pass. It is a rare English class that furnishes tubs of water in which to float rubber ducks, after all.

I spend a lot of time looking at rubber ducks; it's my job. I'm a rubber ducky retail buyer. I own this duck. I've handled this duck dozens of times and I have to say that, for a duck, it's a good, safe choice. Young children like to put ducks in their mouths. Duck butts go straight in, without a second thought. If you are concerned about BPAs, then this duck and his little gang of friends are a more natural choice. He doesn't float upright, it isn't advertised as such and, in fact, most rubber ducks on the market don't float upright;they float on their side. In order to float, they need a weighted bottom. That's just the way it is.

Our duck can't swim. We believe his crown is too heavy and makes him drawn. But seriously, I only bought this product because it was advertised as Phthalates or BPA free but I mean come on, swimming is a basic skill every rubber ducky should have! Since our ducky can't swim, we sing to our baby girl about the ducky at bath time. The song goes something like this: My name is king ducky, king ducky and my crown is too heavy, too heavy so I can not swim, can not swim. I come from Spanish union labor and I was pretty expensive but I still can't swim, still can't swim....

Ty Beanie Eraserz - Waddle the PenguinI received this as a gift and it is very cute, but the cute factor is a bad thing because I don't want to risk messing it up by actually using it as an eraser. It is a cute toy for a little kid, but if you need and eraser to actually use don't buy this one.

Fisher-Price Little People Wheelies All About Racing

Fisher-Price Little People Wheelies All About RacingI bought this package of Wheelies cars after I bought him the Fisher-Price Little People Racin' Ramps Garage. He needed more cars for when Grandma and Grandpa visit. These cars were the perfect fit for the little ramps on the Racin' Ramps garage, and my son loves to play with them. He also really likes the bright colors.

I'm not so sure they're "educational" other than we can use them to show him colors, and he can learn four different types of vehicles (police car, tow truck, etc.). So I gave only 2 stars for educational level.

They seem fairly sturdy--they've been tossed down the stairs onto the wood floor below and have survived without a scratch. And they don't have batteries, so I can wash them in warm soapy water.

Overall, for a fun toy for a little boy, this is an excellent purchase. Am actually thinking of buying the other package with different vehicles.

You can purchase all the available Wheelies cars directly from Fisher-Price.com for $3.00 each.

I am shocked that they are selling a 4 pack for $24.99. I got my daughter 10 of them for $30 and had a free shipping coupon code on top of that.

Do some searching before spending too much...

This set of wheelies stays on the ramp that a lot of others seem to fly off. Somtimes the tow truck has minor issues staying on because I think it is a little top heavy, but the rest seem to be just fine. I really think it depends on which vehicle you are using as to whether or not you're going to have problems. Love these little cars. The kids love them. Much better than a little metal car.

Ganz Baby Plush Blue Puppy

Ganz Baby Plush Blue PuppyWe purchased this plush blue puppy as a potential replacement for the one our 18 month old son already has. He has named it "Fluff" and it goes everywhere with him. We hear him in the mornings over the monitor talking to "Fluff". It has held up very well to being dragged, chewed on, wrestled, etc. We plan on retiring the original soon and secretly replacing it with the one we just bought. That way we can put the original up and store it for him as a momento of his first favorite toy.

We were pleasantly surprised that the new puppy came a couple of days before we expected it to arrive and in perfect shape.

Wonderworld Spacy Baby Toy

Wonderworld Spacy Baby ToyThe size of this toy is just perfect for little hands to grab and little gums to chew on. It makes a pleasant noise when shaken, and flexes in many different directions.

(My little one is currently 4 months old, and when I showed this to him in a toy store his eyes lit up and it was instantly grabbed and put straight into his mouth. Needless to say, if you drool on it, you bought it. It's become one of his absolute favorite toys.)

This toy was quite a bit smaller than I thought it would be. It is alot of fun though. My son has a lot of fun manipulating this toy by bending it and smashing it this way and that. Very high quality in my opinion.

FANTA COLOR JR

FANTA COLOR JRMy daughter loves this toy. Although she is twenty-five and autistic, it is one toy that I can give her to play with when she is having a bad day of behavior and seizures. She will go in her room and lie on her bed and play with this toy for an hour or so. I babysit five other children ages from seventeen months to thirteen, and I find them playing with the Fanta game also. It if fun to watch them come up with thier own designs.

What I like about this toy is that half of the pictures are colored so you can match the picture, but half of them aren't so you can be creative and make up your own designs. My kids love to do both with this toy.

Sassy Classical Keys 235

Sassy Classical Keys 235A decent toy; not enough places to grip, the music can get very irritating after a few minutes, and no off switch. Luckily (?) the music changed to a mumbly gargle soon after we got it. My 4 month old showed little interest in it with and without music.

My daughter has loved this from when she was a few months old. The rolling rattle barrel was a bit stiff at first but with plenty of use it has become easier to play with :) The music is pleasant, not at all annoying, the buttons are extremely easy to press in fact the music will play even if the toy is just mouthed gently in the keyboard area and it's nice to find a baby toy with more unusual selections such as Mozart's Rondo Alla Turca rather than yet another tinny version of Twinkle Twinkle Little Star and Cantata 147. I don't like the sealed system whereby one can't replace the batteries; I think for a toy in this price range one should be able to replace the batteries and not have to buy another one if the child is still getting use out of it when it expires, plus small children get attached to things and the colours of this design change periodically, making it impossible to do a switch unnoticed.

My grand daughter loves this toy. It's always the first one she pulls from the wagon of toys at her great-grandmothers. She got it when she was about five months old to have something to chew on when she was teething. At 12 months she still loves to listen to the music, manipulate the beads, shake it and chew on it. The keys are easy for her to push. It's a toy that keeps on giving.

This was the first toy my daughter ever played with. She learned to push the keys when she was only about 4 months old. Now, at 12 months, I am buying my second one because she still enjoys it. The batteries should be replaceble, but other than that, we love it. The sound is pleasent, not overly tinny or annoying.

BRIO Knock-Out Pounding Bench

BRIO Knock-Out Pounding BenchMaybe our son is too young to enjoy this toy, (he's not yet 2) but he has banged it once or twice with vigor, though not quite hitting the nail on the head. In any case, it requires a lot of power to really drive those pegs into the board. This is good and bad. The pegs don't get lost, but that's because it takes a strong kid to whack 'em all the way through. Very durable and well made, though kinda small sized.

Skip Hop Treetop Friends Night and Day Discovery Toy

Skip Hop Treetop Friends Night and Day Discovery ToyThis is our go to toy right now. Our baby is almost 3 months old and for the past month she has loved looking at this toy and trying to grab it when we hang it in front of her. She seems to really look at it, unlike a few other toys I have ordered her. I love how it comes with a hanging strap and I can really attach it to anything. Once she starts teething I really think she will enjoy the grooved leaf to chew on. It's really such a cute toy, I will be buying more of the Treetop toys.

I bought this toy because I get all these e-mails from these places telling me what my baby should be doing this week. Well one week (at a very young age) the email said that the baby should have a favorite toy. Well we didn't even have very many toys for the baby yet because she could barely hold on to anything at that point. So being the self consciouse mom that I am I went on the internet and searched for the top rated toys for 3 month old babies. This owl toy was number one on many sites so I ordered it without another thought. She likes it. It's small so she can hold it. The only two complaintes I have (and they arne't really bad ones) are that it sheds this fabric when she hold it or puts it in her mouth. It's not thread... I'm not sure what it is but it definately comes from the toy because you can see it on the toy. The other bothersome thing is EVERYONE who sees the toy comments on how owls are nocternal and the sleeping owl should be on the night side instead of the daytime one. But having said all that we love it! And SHE loves it, which in the end is all that matters!

My almost seven months daughter loved this toy, until today when I realize the leaf part had broken and she had more than half on her mouth!!!

The part that attaches to the toy is very thin and can break. I will be contacting the company to let them know.

It was also cracked on the other end so that part could have detached and she could have swallow that. Scary!

Buzz T-Shirt - Midnight Blue (Size 4T)

Buzz T-Shirt - Midnight BlueThis is a cute shirt and my little guy really likes Juno and her friends. He enjoys the shirt, however, it will be short lived. The shirt is small for a 4t and that is often the case in character tees (Thomas, Disney, etc..) so I ordered the 4t instead of the 3t which is what he normally wears. However, it also shrunk on first wash, so double whammy. Order larger size and don't dry at all would be my suggestion.

Melissa & Doug Deluxe Wooden First Vehicles Set

Melissa & Doug Deluxe Wooden First Vehicles SetI purchased these for our (almost) 10 month old son for his stocking. I was presently surprised when they arrived, much nicer than my expectations. They are very hefty (in a good way) I didn't think my son would really play with them much at first, but he loves rolling them back and forth on the floor. A special perk for parent's, no annoying twisty ties getting them out of the package. Over all, I think these will last for years to come, and will really grow with our son. I'm very pleased I went with these and not some of the plastic ones I was considering.

This vehicle set is such a great alternative to the plastic junk sold in most stores. I bought this set for my one year old for christmas and he loves it. It just fits in the palm of my hand, it feels sturdy, and all the parts are made soo well that when my son threw it across the room (he wanted the airplane to fly) it did not chip, break, or bend. The propeller (sp?) on the plane is fun and even though the wheels and the propeller are made from plastic it is not easily breakable. Great colors, great product, recommended.

It took about a minute for my grandson (just 10 months old) to find that the back of the airplane fits his mouth just fine! He has been rolling the truck around, and in a few minutes discovered the propeller and began turning it. This toy set is close to indestructable, and reminds me a lot of the old-style toys I recall from the 50s... big blocky, solidly built, definitely child-proof. I am so glad I found these for his first visit from Santa!

Sassy Developmental Bath Toy, Catch and Count Net

Sassy Developmental Bath Toy, Catch and Count NetLike others who have reviewed this toy, I had been searching Amazon for a bath time toy that did not have a squirter (or any type of internal compartment) that was prone to growing mold.

These toys definitely do the trick. The three fish do no have anything that could hold stagnant water. Each of the fish has a little "bowl" in the middle of them but there are two drain holes to avoid standing water in those bowls. Of course a little water could still remain but it is easily remedied by letting the fish dry upside down.

On the packaging it does NOT say anything about being BPA free but if you go to Sassy's webpage and look at the "Bath Toy Gallery" there is a heading that says "Sassy products are BPA Free and Phthalate Compliant"

For now my 8 month old is content just chewing on one of the fish ... down the road I can't wait for her to play with the net too

Our 3-year-old loves playing in the bath, and this toy is a lot of fun for her. She never seems to tire of catching the little fish over and over again with the net. It dries quickly after bath time, and unlike a lot of other bath toys (especially the squirty ones that hold water inside) we don't anticipate any problems with mold.

Buy Sassy Developmental Bath Toy, Catch and Count Net Now

The net has holes in the handle tubing so water can enter and it is hard to drain out possibly causing mold. The little fish are a great size for kid hands and my son likes to chew on them but I have noticed the paint has come off of the items. Once I noticed it, I rubbed a fish with my thumb and realized it comes off fairly easy. I wouldn't recommend.

Rhino Toys Oball Rattle (Colors May Vary)

Rhino Toys Oball RattleWe found this ball at Target and as soon as our son was able to start using his hands to grab things, this toy has been his favorite. The design makes it super easy for him to hold on to and pass back and forth between his little hands. He loves sticking his nose and his tongue through the holes. He is more "talkative" when he is playing with this toy. Its also soft and light-weight so he wont get hurt.

Lightweight and soft surface makes this a great safe toy for my baby. She never seems to get tired of this toy.

Buy Rhino Toys Oball Rattle (Colors May Vary) Now

The ball is colorful and bright. The sound of the little beads in the ball's chambers are very feeble. Would have rather liked some bells or anything that would jingle a little louder. My 3-month old daughter likes to grasp the ball, the big holes in between help her do that. But it doesn't hold her attention for more than a few seconds. I suspect that's because it doesn't do anything more than that.

Overall: So-so product. Try the Manhattan Toy Winkel instead.

Pony Rattle

Pony RattleThis is a gift. Will have to say more once it is used. For now, it arrived in excellent, clean condition. All I had to do was wrap it to go under the tree.

Haba Teddy Pacifier Chain

Haba Teddy Pacifier ChainI have to disagree with Fiona Bessey-Bushnell about wood. It's wood, a perfectly safe natural material. Most cutting boards are made of wood and you don't see people complaining of the microbial nightmare while chopping food.

Being from Northern Europe, I am always amazed at how many toys in the US are made of cheap plastics as opposed to that durable and great natural material: wood. Maybe I'm old fashioned by I think wood has more "soul" and is nicer to the touch.

My nine month old daughter has plenty of wood toys and they spend most of their time on the floor. Most of them have been licked and sucked on at one point or another. This does not make her sick. Having an environment too clean may actually hinder the development of the immune system. That's one of the reasons why many doctors are skeptical about the current trend involving antibacterial soaps.

Wood can be easily cleaned. Rinse and if necessary wipe with a disinfectant wipe.

I have this pacifier chain and also the heart chain and we LOVE them. They are vibrant and unique. Everyone with little ones who sees them ask where I got them. They are above and beyond any clip you can buy at your local baby store. We not only love these clips but many of the other toys from Haba. They have wonderful wood toys that spark the imagination and allow your child to interact not only react to their toys. In our home we are now anti brightly colored plastic toys that do nothing much but make noise.

Buy Haba Teddy Pacifier Chain Now

Do not buy this pacifier chain. We rcvd. as gift and was happy to have. However, my 7.5 month somehow pulled the knot, the only thing holding the beads on, and when we looked down he was covered in the wooden beads. Thank goodness he didn't swallow one...but it was close call. There is nothing to stop all the small beads to pull off once the knot is undone. A very dangerous product for infants/toddlers.

Zooley Natural Teething Toy

RiNGLEY Natural Teething Toy - ZooLEY TurtleOur baby has been enjoying this toy on a regular basis for several months (consequently, meaning it's been washed a lot), yet it shows no signs of wear. The ringing it makes when shaken is pleasant and can be easily tolerated by parents for hours, unlike some similar toys. Evenflo Bounce and Learn Bee Exersaucer

Evenflo Bounce and Learn Bee ExersaucerI recently bought this exersaucer for my 6 month old boy (who is big for his age: 21 pounds, 30 inches). Although it is super cute and not as cluttered or overstimulating as other exersaucers I've seen, I'm overall not impressed with it for 4 reasons:

1. My very large baby can't reach the floor even on the lowest setting, so we have to keep a folded-up towel under his feet so that he's not just hanging there.

2. After only a few days, he managed to chew some of the paint off of the dragonfly's face. This concerned me enough to remove the dragonfly completely from the item, which is sad because he really liked that part.

3. As far as he knows, this thing does not bounce. The springs are so stiff that it takes a lot of force from me to create a bouncing motion. I guess I should be grateful that he can't bounce it himself because it makes way too much noise---a delightful crashing plastic noise.

4. There is one place on the toy tray that does not have a toy. I did not know this because in the picture, the empty place is hiding behind the bee's head. However, be warned that it will seem to be missing a toy when you are assembling it. Maybe there are extra attachments that you can buy??

I'm considering returning it....the only reason I haven't yet is because baby boy loves hitting the frog on the head for the sound effects.

EDIT: Shortly after posting this review, I found more paint chipped off of a different toy (the eggshell/bird toy), and therefore I have decided to return the item. It's a shame...it had a lot of potential to be good, but the thought of my baby eating paint chips is a deal-breaker for me.

This exersaucer is definitely going to last us a long time. Baby is a little young to really get into it, I know the suggested age is 4 months, my little guy is only 3 but he has great neck control and loves trying to stand. I know that he is going to grow into this and love it. There are 3 replaceable toys and two electronic toys, so there are less batteries than the frog evenflo bouncer. It also has the stabilzer feet on it, which was really important for us since little one is no where near ready to have it wobble around. I am very happy with this and can't wait for the little guy to grow into it!

Buy Evenflo Bounce and Learn Bee Exersaucer Now

Bought this for my 4 month old and she liked it right away, even though she couldn't make it bounce at that point. As the other reviewers noted, we did have to place a pillow on the bottom so her feet were touching (she's 60%-75% for height). She is now 7 months old and still needs the pillow, but has been bouncing in it just fine since she was 5-6 mo old. She loves to bounce. It's a good amt of bouncing so she has fun, but she can't get too crazy with the stiffer springs so that I worry about her head bouncing too much. However, I have a 26 mo old that gets in the bouncer and can definitely really make it bounce! There are 2 chew, flexible toys, 1 with a bird in an egg that vibrates when you pull the string (my daughter has always loved that), and 2 toys that need 3 AAA batteries each that talk, sing & make noises (1 has a mirror). My only complaint is that nothing plays full songs, or anything like the classical music from my old Baby Einstein exersaucer. My baby does chew on the butterfly & apple & thankfully we have not had any issues with the paint coming off. Overall, we are very pleased with this bouncer and it has worked out great!

Read Best Reviews of Evenflo Bounce and Learn Bee Exersaucer Here

We bought this because I assumed new model= new and improved. The lowest setting is so tall that my 4 month old's legs needs to grow at least 3 inches before he can touch the base. He is in the 75th percentile for height and weight. Seat padding is cheap feeling with no quilting or softness. The head rest part of the seat is supported by a thin piece of low density foam that falls backward because the stitching is too loose. If I had seen this in a store I would have bought a different model. I have only had this for 2 days and cannot write a more detailed review, but wanted to warn others of how high this is.

UPDATE: Baby is now 10 months old and feet have only touched bottom on lowest setting for 2 months. This is by far the least stimulating toy he has and he screams when I put him in it. It also makes a cracking screech noise when he does jump. By far the worst design yet for an exersaucer. It is cute but that is the only compliment I have after owning it for 6 months.

My son is 5 months old and loves this thing! He isn't quite tall enough for it, but we just put a throw pillow under his feet (on the highest level) and it's perfect. as soft as the carpets inside.

Children and adults have enjoyed looking at the animals. One 80 year old
