My 9 month old granddaughter loves this toy!! I highly recommend it. It's also very sturdy. She's thrown it on my kitchen tile floor many times and it's still good as new.

My daughter has had this toy for several months now and she's grown more interested (she was only 6 months when we first gave it to her). It has lights and sounds to keep her entertained, but doesn't have much educational value. You can play with them and say the colors with them, but other than that it's just a fun jam out toy; not all toys have to teach them something. Kid's need to have fun too and this toy accomplishes that.

Melissa & Doug Large Shapes Jumbo Puzzle

I just purchased this puzzle for my 16 month old daughter who enjoys it. However, the colors of the plug and the hole are supposed to match and they don't. Some are just very different shades and two are different colors altogether (purple versus blue/ orange versus red). Since color recognition is a fundamental aspect of this puzzle, this seems to be a significant flaw.

I also found as another reviewer did that the pieces don't seem to have been removed and cleaned after the jig cut them out. There is particle board dust that seems to keep wearing off with continued use even after it is cleaned with a damp cloth. This can be considered a small trade off for the price of the toy since it is so functional and educational.

However, the only concern I have with the dust is whether there are any chemicals from glue or other materials that might have some degree of toxicity. The pieces are in no way deteriorating of crumbling apart; there is just dust that my daughter found fascinating and began licking off her fingers.

The pegs to hold the pieces are perfect. The pieces fit well, not too loose, not too tight. I really like this puzzle for my daughter and hope that I can get it exchanged for one that has accurately corresponding colors.

We have a lot of different puzzles for our daughter and this is our favorite. The background is simple and doesn't distract from the placement of the pieces. The wooden knobs are easy for her to grasp and the pieces are simple shapes and colors that she can recognize and easily put where they belong. She's learning colors and shapes from our "play" with this puzzle and doesn't get frustrated with it like she does with some other puzzles. I highly recommend this puzzle.

We were so happy to have received this as a gift for our daughter. However, there is not one piece that correctly goes into place. The circle, which you would assume would be the easiest piece to place (since there are no edges) is the hardest to place, because of the notch that was made to cut out the circle. The remaining pieces (excluding the oval and rectangle) should fit in any direction, however they are only cut to fit one way. For instance, the square (4 right angles) should fit in any direction, but it only fits one way. We are highly disappointed in this company.

While this puzzle is educational and my 1 year old daughter loves to play with it, it is NOT solid wood as the manufacturer claims. It is made with particle board. It came full of saw dust, too. The pictures are like stickers and I can already see them peeling off after 1 week bc my daughter puts the pieces in her mouth. What 1 year old doesn't? If it was actually ALL solid wood and painted with non-toxic paint, it would be better and I would have given it 4 or 5 stars then.

My 13 month old son loves this, but I unfortunately have to echo the comments that it's poorly made. The saw dust went away after a bit, and I can live with the fact that the pieces can sometimes be difficult to put in, but the biggest problem is that my son is chewing the paper off the top of the pieces. It's kind of shocking actually, that they would manufacture a product that could be chewed away so easily when the product is geared toward children that are likely to put things in their mouths! I'll probably end up throwing it out shortly, but I'm hoping to find a replacement from a different company before I do. Bottom line is that I would never buy this again or gift it to anyone I cared about.

We bought this phone for our 6 month old despite the age rating of 18 months. I think we wanted it more than he did! It's really easy to program your child's name into it. It took me about 5 minutes. (I do recommend that you go onto FisherPrice.com and double check that your child's name is available in Elmo's data base.) Our son LOVES this toy and we have since given it to two of his friends as gifts. They love it too! The toy is not overly loud like alot of his other toys so it's great for restauraunts, airplanes and other places that your child might need entertainment.

No fewer than 4 adults and 2 computers were used trying to get this thing to say some other name than "Michael" I see others had the same problem. After my husband and I both tried it, and the download said "100% successful" a million times, we gave it to my cousin to try it on her computer, thinking maybe it was a problem with mine. She tried it and the same thing. She finally took it back to the store, thinking it was defective, and got a new one. The new one did it too. After we all were ready to throw it through the window, it was discovered that there is some kind of tab you have to pull out of it in order to activate it. NOWHERE in the detailed instructions does it tell you this (we kept it in the box because we were going to wrap it back up for Christmas. Apparently you have to take it out of the box). PLEASE put this little detail in the instructions!!! This is why I gave it 2 stars the kid hasn't even seen it yet just based on the difficulty on programming.

I can connect the phone to my computer and have it recognized. I can click and get a 100% complete message downloading and installing the name, but it never does. I never get the name I downloaded. I've called tech support a number of times. They ask the same lame questions, did I plug the phone in using the USB cable, did I download the name I wanted, did I have the exe file on my computer, did I right click or double click the file, did I have the Elmo icon and how did I click on that. All the time I did tell them I was able to launch the software. When the phone wasn't connected it saw that the phone was not connected. When the phone was connected, it showed the download progress bar and then said it was 100% successful, but it never said the name I downloaded. I found the name on their web site, clicked on it, played it to be sure it was the right name and then downloaded it FIVE times, in different places, incase it was corrupted. Installed it in different places incase there was a corrupt file on the computer, changed the batteries in the phone, took the phone apart to be sure there was no try me tab broken off. It never worked. What a lot of trouble for nothing. I spent over an hour on the phone and another couple hours on my own trying to get this thing working properly... no luck.

Ok, after reading the reviews regarding the phone being stuck in demo mode, I took mine apart and looked at it.

Looking at the back of the phone on the bottom right, there is a small slot where the demo tab goes in. If you remove it, you SHOULD be able to program it with your kid's name. If that's not the case, take out all the screws (and the batteries) and open the phone. across from where that slot is, there is a tiny white switch, that flips depending on whether or not the tab is in. Using a small screwdriver (or something similar) toggle it to the left (against the case). That should do it!

If not, flip it back and forth until it "springs" against the case. You'll then be able to plug it in and program it.

After reading all of the great reviews, I had such high hopes of this being a fun toy for him. When it arrived, I immediately noticed how cheaply made it was and was very small. I definitely paid WAY too much for this toy. The "bedbugs" are too hard for him to press down, even with his bare hands. He ends up using the hammer to hit on everything else in the house, which he loves but I could have saved myself a lot of money and just purchased a hammer. Do not waste your money on this toy!

Disney Store Jumbo 37" Perry the Platypus Plush from Phineas & Ferb

I bought this Jumbo Perry at a Disney Store. It is very large compared to the Talking Perry. It's supple and firm yet soft enough to hug and cuddle. The only issue is that this Perry can get dirty pretty easily if you use it on the carpet or floor. I was going to buy one a few months ago when it came out and could not find a clean one because all the little kids would "ride" Perry around the store which got the tail and his bill dirty. So I would probably not use it as a foot stool as Disney has suggested. While I'm sure it can be cleaned with a damp rag, I'm not buying something dirty brand new! And obviously, due to the size, that would be the only way to clean this Perry anyhow. Anyhoo, I love my jumbo Perry!

This platypus is just as long as a real platypus. It also weighs almost as much as a real platypus. Scratch it behind the ears(if it has any ears)and feed it platypus food. Take it to the vet every month for a daily checkup. Soon if you take care of this platypus,it will love you! I got this plush from the easter bunny. Sometimes when I hug it and squeeze it it's arms and legs get in the way. Great for a pillow and great for taking it to any place. Overall great plush.

My 7 month old son loves to play with the balls & he loves hearing the music play everytime he kicks it or reaches in. He's hasn't quite old enough to actually "make a basket" without help. The one complaint I have is that when you try to pick up the toy, from the top of basket, it falls apart. There is no way to lock the top & bottom parts together. That causes concern since my son could pick it up & have the bottom fall on him & he gets hurt.

Reading the box I thought it would be a wonderful toy for my 8 month old. However, everytime he pulls on the net the entire top half comes apart. That's know fun because he cannot put it back together. It should have a locking mechanism so that it would not come apart.

We got this toy at Christmas when Ethan was 5 mos., he is now 10 mos. He likes to spin the side spinner but that's about all. I agree that the hoop falls off MUCH too easily and it was really hard to put the bottom pieces together. It seemed silly they weren't already connected. I received this toy for Easter for my Twins in thier baskets. I have to say that the nicest part of the toy is the three brightly colored balls. I am a big Fisher Price fan and I like the adjustable volume and the music is not too overbearing but the toy is not made well. The hoop attachement falls off way to easily (everytime) and having to re-assemble it each time its touched is annoying. With three small kids, I need a toy to hold up for play. It's not worth the money and I would not give this to anyone else.

My mom bought this toy for my son when he was nine months old and he loves it! Music plays and lights flash when he puts the balls in the hoop. He figured out the point of the game right away. The balls are brightly colored and he will crawl all over the house to retrieve them. The hoop attachment does come off of the base easily but that is because it is reversible (the bottom of the toy can either be a basket to contain the balls or a platform that allows the balls to roll away so baby has to crawl after them) and it has never been a problem for us. We clap and cheer when he makes a basket and he gets really excited. This toy is very interactive because adults can easily play baskets with the child even grandad likes getting in on the action! This is always the first toy my son chooses to play when we go to Grandma's house.

Chicco First Dreams Crib Mobile

My son hated his room, or crib, or both. It's likely my fault. I resisted a mobile because it didn't really work with the decor and I didn't know if he'd really love it.

Insert Chico First Dream Crib Mobile. All of a sudden my two month old son that would scream bloody murder when laid down loves his crib. You can actually lay him down awake and tired and this entertains then lulls him to sleep.

Best part of all, the mobile has a sound detector that is perfectly sensitive. Coos are nothing but when he starts crying this kicks on and buys me a few more seconds to rub my eyes open and grab a bottle. It's even been known to get him back to sleep unaided!

Very minor complaints, the projector started jerking a little but a light slap and it was back to normal for now. Oh, and it runs on batteries. In my book, the adjustment to sub-par wine for our new battery budget is easily accepted.

This mobile bridged the "plastic, shiny, toys with lights and sounds" and "mommy really likes mid-century clean lines" line.

We purchased this crib mobile in hopes that it would help our 4 month old with her difficulties falling and staying asleep. She absolutely loves the lights and is mesmerized by the planets & stars on the ceiling. Unfortunately, the music even in the quietest mode is still really loud and the songs are way too upbeat and high pitched to be soothing from a sleepiness standpoint. The mobile definitely keeps her attention and she enjoys laying in her crib for some quiet play time, so we won't be returning it, however, I definitely wouldn't recommend spending the money for this mobile if you're only looking for something soothing for bedtime. We'll be sticking with the much less expensive musical seahorse for bedtime readiness. If I were to just rate the mobile/toy itself I would give it 4 stars, however since it's advertised as something that helps babies with sleep, I give it 3 stars.

This mobile is so frustrating. I knew I wanted a mobile that projects on the ceiling. This mobile does, and it's very cool, but that's where the coolness ends. The mobile part detaches, and it's a good thing, because otherwise it sits at a really weird slanted angle. It only plays two really long songs. it DOES NOT attach to the newer decorative cribs with thick rails that convert into beds later. But the projections were so neat that I didn't want to return it. The round base sat freely (without the mobile) on the nightstand for 3 months and we just used it like that. Then, after a trip to the fabric store, some nylon cord, and some tiny fabric hooks, my husband trimming some extra plastic from the back, and a hole drilled through the plastic ledge, I fashioned a way to securely attach it to our sons crib. Waaay to much messing around. Chicco needs to update their crib attachments!

Russ Berrie Treetops Giraffe Wrist Rattle

The giraffe is cute and soft, but it doesn't make any real noise. My 4 month old (now six months) couldn't make it ring. She does enjoy giving it a good chew. Since she used to have trouble holding on to a teething ring, the giraffe was good for that. I thought it was supposed to be a RATTLE!

Vilac Car with Stripes - Red

My 2 and 3 year olds (boy and girl) are just getting into cars, and these work so well! They roll smoothly, and they have a great painted finish that has withstood banging, crashing, and dropping, all without chipping! My only complaint is that it would be nice to see some accurate skin tone portrayals for the drivers. As the white mother of two black children, I have to work really hard to ensure that their toys don't end up reflecting a sea of white. While Vilac's drivers are orange or peach, I have yet to find brown, black, or tan.

Ultimately, you can't go wrong with Vilac's high quality products.

Fisher-Price Laugh & Learn Learning Music Player

The Fisher-Price Learning Music Player is one of my daughter's favorite toys. Her grandparents bought it for her first birthday and two months later she still loves it. She carries it around the house and dances to the music. There are so many great things about this toy:

+ Good Songs: Not only does *she* like them, but they are comparatively good for a children's toy. There are enough of them that the repetition isn't overly grating.

+ Lightweight: My daughter is easily able to carry this toy around with her, whether walking (unsteadily) or crawling.

+ Baby Friendly Design: The handles make the toy easy for her to carry. The buttons easily allow her to skip songs and/or to repeat her favorites. (The handles also make it easy to attach it high chairs/play pens/car seats if you have plastic ring links, which can usually be found in the baby section of most department stores.)

+ Durable: In two months it has withstood a tremendous amount of toddler abuse (i.e. flinging, banging, chewing).

+ Off Button: This toy comes with a recessed "on/off" switch on the back that tiny fingers can't manipulate. (Which is why this is one of the few toys that we haven't removed the batteries from.)

+ Entertaining: This toy distracts her when she is cranky and entertains her in boring situations (i.e. car rides). It really is developmentally appropriate for young toddlers; it holds her attention so much longer than similar electronic baby toys.

I really cannot recommend this toy enough. I'm not a huge fan of plastic/blinking/noise making toys, but this is one that my daughter really enjoys. The Fisher-Price Learning Music Player is one of the few toys that I'll actually search the house for when it has been misplaced.

This is simply the very best 1st toy for a baby, PERIOD. If it seems a bit expensive, believe me it's worth every penny in happiness and satisfaction for a little one! If you only have a limited amount of money to spend on toys for your baby, please get this toy. It's so much learning and fun in one package and is lasting enjoyment for YEARS whereas other toys are limited in scope and don't entertain or last even half this long!

I bought this for my great grandson when he was first born and played it for him. He's played with it continuously since then...it was always the favorite take-a-long toy when going places in the car. He likes it in his bed and takes it all over the house. He's 20 months now and it's still one of his favorite toys. He bounces with the music and tries to sing along with it. He has some favorites...Row Row Row your Boat and the ABC song. When very small, baby can press the big button easily to play it and later they can press the smaller buttons and change the sequence of the songs...play them over and over, etc.

We call it his "radio". We wanted to find a wind-up Fisher-Price radio like the ones we bought our daughters when they were little, but couldn't find any. Instead we found this and weren't sure whether it would be as good, but it's been GREAT! It is VERY durable, having been thrown on tile floors and out of the crib numerous times, but has never failed to play. It goes a long time on a set of batteries too, which is nice. Also like the volume control for when he goes to bed and wants to play it...it doesn't have to be so loud.

Finally, with kids, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, the very best toys with the most lasting enjoyment have always been FISHER PRICE toys!

We bought this for our daughter who always wanted to play with mommy and daddy's ipods. It worked for the most part and our daughter loved to dance along to the 9 short tunes preloaded on it. Unfortunately, it recently broke and even after daddy took it appart and tried to repair it there was not apparent break. So it's fine when it works, but that's not for long. I'd say it's worth about $10 but not really $20.

My daughter was so happy to see it sitting in front of the Christmas tree on Christmas morning. It was the first toy she noticed right away. She couldn't wait to pick it up. I cannot complain about the quality of the doll very well made. It is so cute and cuddly. Note that the little doll is not included in the purchase.

My daughter (just turned one) got this for Christmas and she has been carrying it everywhere. It's much bigger than I thought it would be. Seams all look well constructed, so I think this doll will last a long time, even with being dragged all over the house under the arm of a toddler. I also loved that the strawberry at the top of the hat actually smells like a strawberry! I grew up with Strawberry Shortcake, and I think it's terrific that toys like this are making a come-back.

We bought this toy for our twins for Christmas and they LOVE it! The colorful circles spin as the clown is pulled and they can also be removed so the kids can chew them or roll them around. My son loves toys that he can drag behind him and this is his new favorite toy. Even my older daughter likes to pretend it is a "dog" on a leash. Haba's toys are always well made and very durable, I bought baby toys for my daughter 4 years ago that still look brand new after 2 kids. When I found the Soothe and Glow Seahorse I was so happy! Firstly, it's cute, much cuter than the Gloworm models. Secondly, the music and sounds are also much much better the music is quality and the volume can be adjusted. The sea sounds are a nice touch as well.

Unlike the Gloworm, the Soothe and Glow Seahorse actually does help baby wind down with it's gentle music and ocean sounds. I would recommend this toy any day.

I purchased this seahorse around January 2008. I almost returned it because, although it's nice that the music plays for around 5 minutes (we timed 6 1/2 minutes), I didn't want to keep it if there wasn't a way to easily turn off the music without it playing all the way through. There is no mention anywhere on the box or in the manual that you can turn off the music other than by going inside the velcro and turning off the on/off switch (and who would want to do that and wake up the sleeping baby with the loud velcro?) Then, by accident, we found that if you press and hold the seahorse's chest for several seconds the music will gently fade and turn off. I called Fisher-Price and let them know so hopefully they'll add this information to the box and manual soon. It's a bit "head heavy" which makes it a little hard to handle. It's not machine washable like the original Gloworm, only "surface washable". Great product overall. It's so darn cute.

We first bought a gloworm. Piece of junk if you ask me. The Soothe & Glow Seahorse is FANTASTIC! It plays music for 5 minutes as well as soothing ocean sounds like waves & bubbles. My kids love it! It was purchased for my now 4 month old (we bought him the gloworm originally that hardly played a song despite following all the directions)but my 20 month old is constantly stealing it to soothe him to sleep as well. This makes putting my kids to bed a piece of cake I never have to struggle to get my 20 month old in bed he just jumps right in as long as I have glowie the seahorse!

I fully credit this seahorse with getting my baby to soothe herself to sleep. I began turning it on each night during her bedtime feeding (she would always fall asleep when nursing). After doing this for a couple of weeks, I was able to put my baby in her crib while she was still awake -as long as the seahorse was with her! There are a few reasons why this is such a great item for sleep association:

1. The light provides a gentle glow instead of a harsh glare.

2. There are two volume levels to choose from.

3. The music is VERY soothing.

4. After it plays for about six minutes, the light and the music SLOWLY fades away so there is no sudden silence to jar your baby.

My only complaint is that it doesn't play for a longer period of time. If it would play for 20 minutes or so, I think this product would be absolutely perfect. Nonetheless, I still believe this is a must-have item.

I bought the blue seahorse when my daughter was about 5 months old. It was her nap and sleeping toy/stuffed animal that only lives in her crib,so she learned to know this toy with sleep only. This also makes it great for trips. Once she see's it she feels more comfortable. She has grown very attached to this toy.

The seahorse has volume control which is great bc babies cuddle up to it and the music can be soft and not hurt their ears. As my daughter grew,she learned how to turn it on and off,great for cause/effect. I also taught my daughter about the seahorses eyes,nose,tail, color etc. Every morning she hands it to me,gives it a kiss and shows me that she can turn it on,so cute. She is now 17 months old and still loves it!

I also bought another one in pink for her grandparents to leave over their house for sleepovers. Love it!! Almost better than the oldie glow worm! lol

Purchased this for my one year old grand daughter as she really seems to like monkeys. First of all, the picture of it is deceiving. The one I received is not light tan, but very dark brown. Kept it despite the color. Grand daughter occasionally looks at it but prefers the light pink one I also gave her for her birthday.

Musical Infant Stimulation - Black, White & Red Mobile

If you are looking for a more baby-appropriate mobile (as opposed to picking out a mobile that matches the bedding), this one is great. And unlike the Wimmer Ferguson Infant Stim mobile, which is stable and non-musical, this one turns around and also has a windup that plays Braham's Lullaby. Before I bought it, I wondered how the stim cards would be inserted.....You slide the sturdy cards into plastic sleeves on the underside of the red, black, and white pyramids. It's a tight fit so they stay in place nicely. All in all, this mobile would be a true gift to your baby as opposed to the mobiles that match the room decor, which is really more of a gift to yourself. :)

Great shapes and designs for activating baby's brain, but very flimsy crank-style music/motion dial that only lasts about three minutes. I took the shapes off and put them on another mobile base with remote control music that lasts 30 minutes.

Overall this was a great investment! My 7 week old daughter seems to love it. It really holds her attention! My only criticism would be that it is a wind-up device and the mobile doesn't spin for very long. I would be more than willing to spend a little more for it if it had a battery-powered motor. Also it would be nice if you had an option to turn the music off as it is a bit loud for her to fall asleep to. But I'm definitely happy with my purchase.

My daughter is 2 months old, and ALREADY loves this mobile. She adores it and is so happy when she wakes up from a nap-she smiles and "talks" to the images. When I turn the knob for it to play music and spin, she REALLY loves it. It comes with extra cards to change out the images, which is awesome.

Someone noted they wished it could spin/play music longer than it does, and I agree. I wish it could turn on and stay on for maybe 20 min....but then it would require batteries. I also think it is a bit flimsy, and I had to jimmy-rig it to fit on my very thick and sturdy crib. It seems designed to fit on a thin barred crib.

Anyway I still give it 5 stars even though it isn't EVERYTHING I might want in a mobile, because I really wanted black, white, and red images for my baby, and this is pretty much IT for that on the market. Kudos to Baby Genius for filling that niche!

My 2 month old loves this mobile! She can see the strong contrast which allows her to begin to track the items. She stays entertained for a good 15 minutes in her crib. The 3 downfalls are: the cards are a little too tight of a fit and make it difficult to insert into the bottom of the shapes, although you are secure in knowing they won't fall out on baby! 2) the music does not last long enough & 3) it would be nice if you could pivot the mobile out of the way when you put baby in or out of the crib. Overall, this product does what it is supposed to-gain baby's attention and keep her entertained.
