First Bead Maze

First Bead MazeI remember playing with larger versions of these in doctor waiting rooms when I was a kid, so when I saw this little one, I thought my almost one-year-old would love it. She was more into the wrapping paper than most of her presents but when she saw what was under the paper in this particular instance she reached out her arms and said, "Ahhhh! Ahhh!" in a very intense way until I managed to get it out of the shrink wrap and put it in her hands. She then proceeded to try and eat it which is her way of showing that she loves something, generally speaking. She loves it if I sit with her and help her push the beads around the wires. It is small but seems very durable.

LeapFrog Musical Counting Pal

LeapFrog Musical Counting PalThis is a toys for tots gift this 2012 Christmas. It is both educational for the little one and fun. I think it is perfect for a 1 year old.

This is a good product for small child...very cute and interactive. Has a turn off switch if you don't want to listen to the music.

Buy LeapFrog Musical Counting Pal Now

Purchased this for my 6 month old granddaughter. I think it is a cute toy, plays sweet music, has two modes of interactive play, on and off switch, high and low volume, has the peek-a-boo bird, and the teether rings on top. My grandbaby will listen to the music and pick up the toy, but right now she only likes to chew on the teether. When she is older I will introduce her to the educational activities that are sung for counting, colors, and finding objects. One can't go wrong with leap frog toys.

Learning Curve Dreams in Sight Mobile

Learning Curve Dreams in Sight MobileMy son loves this mobile and it helps him get to sleep when it works. The nature sounds are his and my favorite and we've never had any motor noise issue like the other reviewer said about theirs. The biggest problem we have is the fact that this thing eats batteries for dinner and it takes four D cells. It seems like they last maybe 2 weeks and we don't even use the mobile every day. Every time I run out of options to soothe the little guy to sleep I try this mobile and 75% of the time the batteries are dead or dying and it sounds like a sick cow when it plays. My husband and I both agree that it would be much better if it came with an outlet cord option...

This is a good idea, but poorly manufactured. The motor that rotates the mobile is very loud louder than the music. Also, on mine, the nature sounds button does not work. My son seems to like it, but it's too loud. Also there is no way to turn the music off and just have the mobile rotate.

Kewpie: 8.5" Tall Cupie PVC Toy Doll

Kewpie: 8.5' Tall Cupie PVC Toy DollThe 8 1/2 inch plastic Kewpie that I ordered arrived today. He is so cute and adorable! He looks like a boy, and so I named him Dallin. His little body is very sturdy, and he stands well on his own, without any support. He has movable arms and legs. His hair is a painted on brownish-red. He has blue eyes with large pupils. He has such a sweet-looking face that it melts your heart. I put a one piece pantsuit on him that has colorful designs. He is now on my chest of drawers, standing with all of my other Kewpies. He looks very happy and right at home up there! I adore Kewpies, and I now have a grand total of 103. I'm certain that this sweet little Kewpie will capture your heart, as he has mine!

We love this Kewpie doll. We dress her, we take a bath with her, we teach her to swim and she even sits on the potty chair and tinkles after a bath. My grand daughter is 18 months old and this little Kewpie keeps up with her in all her little activities. This was a good little investment.

Motorized Rolling Chaser Ball Dog Cat Pet Kid Toy + Worldwide free shiping

Motorized Rolling Chaser Ball Dog Cat Pet Kid Toy + Worldwide free shipingI thought for sure that a perpetually rolling ball with a fuzzy thing hanging off it would be a hit with my two "juvenile" cats ... about 5 months old. They are big time laser hunters...but got bored with the "automatic" lasers with slow and predictable patterns. This ball came with no instructions...but I figured out that the halves unscrew counter clockwise. Inside, you will see a battery holder that accepts 2 AA batteries. There are + and indicators for proper battery polarity. Something to watch out for ... normally, the big spring end of a battery holder accepts the minus end of a battery. Not so with this gadget. I had to put a small piece of aluminum foil on the top of ONE battery's positive end so that it would make good contact with this spring. There is a little red switch to turn the unit off and on ... but it is internal. So, if you want to turn the unit off, you have to unscrew it. The ball will roll around for over an hour on your kitchen floor and will do okay on not too plush rugs ... but it eventually gets hung up on something... not a big deal...just kick it a bit. The ball is large enough not to go under the couch.

My two juvenile female sisters were curious about the randomly moving ball for around 30 minutes and gradually started ignoring it. Too bad. Overall, I seem to have had more fun ANTICIPATING the fun THEY were going to have with it. Hey, give it a try with your kittens ... perhaps my juveniles just thought that chasing the ball was for little kids.

Fisher-Price Laugh & Learn Magical Musical Mirror

Fisher-Price Laugh & Learn Magical Musical MirrorI purchased this toy for my six month old daughter. She is just sitting up by herself. This is a

great toy for her. She loves the lights and the voice that says fun things to her. She chews on the comb.

This is a toy that will grow with her. Love this!

I bought this toy for my friends 1 year old daughter for a birthday gift. I received my package 2 days from ordering instead of the 8-10 I was expecting. This toy is perfect for baby girls all the way up to 3! There is alot to do and to learn from this, and it has adorable features like the little lipstick, "makeup brush", a bracelet and other little fun items. The mirror is a pretty good size for a little face to look at and the lights around the mirror are a great feature. If my 4 year old daughter and my 9 year old sister enjoyed looking at this and testing it out, I know a 1 year old will have a fantastic time playing with this. Lots of fun for everyone :)

Triangles

TrianglesScared of all the 'bad' toys out there we recently discovered Haba. We bought 4 different Haba toys for my 7 month old and she loves them all. These triangles make a wonderful wood clanky noise that sounds very soothing. No batteries, no plastics, safe for her to 'munch' on. These feel so nice in the palm of my hand, they are brightly colored yet the wood grain still shows thru. My daughter is thrilled with these, very excitedly shaking them and gumming them. I had no idea who Haba was and now that I do I'm never going back!

If you are not familiar with Haba, you might look at this toy and scratch your head as to why anyone would pay over ten dollars for something that is made out of 6 little sticks and two rubber bands. If you are familiar with Haba, you already know. These triangles were my sons favorite toy (among many options) from the moment he could grasp to about seven/eight months. What makes this toy wonderful is that it is so easy to grab and manipulate for little hands. It makes a pleasant and natural wood on wood clanking sound. It is made in Germany (as opposed to China). The colors are vibrant and do a great job of not coming off even after repeated abuse.

For very young kids, you will not find a better toy in any price range.

Buy Triangles Now

My 3-month-old was given this for Christmas and I wasn't sure what to make of it. Well, he LOVES it! And this is why: It is the only toy that he has that is easy to hold (the triangles keep his hands in the toy), and he can put it in his mouth to soothe and he shakes it around. It is the only toy that when he drops it and can't find it, he fusses.

Read Best Reviews of Triangles Here

Honestly, I ordered this triangle toy because I saw all of the positive reviews, but I thought we would like the other two toys I ordered better, because this just looks too simple to be fun.

No way.

This is absolutely my daughter's favorite toy. She is 4 months old, and she loves this because of the bright colors, because it is just the right size for her to grasp, and it works well for shoving into her teething little mouth.

It also makes a nice little wooden rattle sound.

I am considering ordering several of these to keep on hand as a standard baby shower gift. That's how much my daughter loves this toy.

I can't recommend this enough. It has already calmed my daughter for many fussy episodes when I use it to distract her. I am posting a picture so that you can get an idea of the actual size of this toy.

Want Triangles Discount?

My little 4 months old girl is hard to please. She gets quickly bored or very angry at toys (when she can't push them into her mouth). I wanted to give it a try and ordered several of the Haba wooden toys(even though they are recommended 6m+). All of them are of very good quality, however at this age she likes only two of them. 1.) this Triangle she loves, 2.) and the Kringelring she likes. The Triangle is simple but still complex, maneuverable enough to "work it", not just simply hold . It is nice and small, so can fit in small baby hands and mouth.

The other toys like the Flapsi, Trix, Moby clutching toy she will enjoy more probably in few weeks/months.

Update: Being pleased with Haba I now ordered the Magica toy from them. This is absolutely great! I would say that even better than the Triangle. So for younger baby I would recommend mainly the Triangle and Magica.

Baby Einstein Sea Dreams Soother

Baby Einstein Sea Dreams SootherWe got this for our kid when he was about two or three months old and have used it fairly steadily since (he's just over seven months now). In general terms, it does a pretty good job of soothing him and, after countless kicks of varying magnitude, it seems to be holding up well. It's hardly a perfect product, however, and some things would likely have me reconsidering whether I'd buy it again.

Good stuff:

* Music is tolerable, though quickly redundant (it didn't take my wife or me long to be able to hum along with the playlist of classical snippets).

* The 'underwater' lighting effect is pretty cool.

* Wind-down of light and sounds is gentle and well done.

* Star button is easy for baby to smack to turn on the fun.

* Crib light function is helpful.

OK stuff:

* The remote has its own agenda and doesn't always work. When it does, it's a good thing to have. When it doesn't, it's frustrating. Partly due to what seems to be a sort of 'standby' mode (more on that below).

* Volume difference between the high and low settings on music seems more pronounced than on ocean noise.

* Speaking of which, music on loud can be pretty loud. Good if you're trying to get a screaming baby's attention, but not so great for other applications.

* The sea creatures' movements are really limited, like watching a few seconds' footage of lumbering animals on an endless loop. I find it boring, but I've had nearly forty years worth of life experience to compare it to, so maybe I'm a harsher critic than my often-engrossed kid is. Once he's seen "The Wire" and "Arrested Development," I'm sure this will hold less interest for him.

Weird stuff:

* If you're in either of the lights, action & sound modes, hitting the star gets things going. If you're in either of the sound-only modes and it's been a while since the thing was on, there seems to be some kind of standby mode & hitting the star does nothing. If you're just trying to give your baby some soothing sounds, you have to flip back to a light and action mode to jump start the unit, then quickly flip back to just noise. Apart from the possible burst of light you didn't need, the clicking sounds may prove disturbing to some babies.

* Remote has similar issues: If the aquarium wasn't recently on, the remote isn't going to start it back up, meaning you have to go hit the star on the unit. So much for being covert. It really only makes the remote useful for extended, repeated plays.

Bad and annoying stuff:

* As many others have mentioned, battery life kind of sucks. Buy your Cs in bulk and know where to dispose of them properly. Better yet, get at least eight rechargeables and always have a set ready, because...

* The 'low battery' light is a joke. It's a 'no battery' light. Imagine your car's 'fuel warning' light only coming on after you've used up every ounce of gas in your tank. That's this thing. No warning, just an instantly dead machine and a handy red light reminding you it's dead. Rest assured, cruel laws of thermodynamics beyond human comprehension will ensure that this only happens at 4 a.m., when your child is most agitated and only a Baby Einstein Sea Dreams Soother will calm them.

* Oh, did I mention changing the batteries means pulling it off the crib, taking off the mount, then using a screwdriver to undo the back? Keep a Phillips head and spare batteries nearby. By the second or third month of having this, you should be able to attack this thing like a NASCAR pit crew to get it back up and running in under two minutes. Still, your newly-acquired skills will not excuse a zero-warning shutdown in the middle of the night.

* Lastly, depending on the height of the mattress in your crib or the angle of the mount, it's entirely possible to have pretty bright LEDs beaming right into the kid's eyes as you're trying to get them to sleep. I'm no baby scientist, but that seems counterproductive, unless the idea is to make them squint into submission. Whatever the case, it seems like a 1/1000th of cent plastic flange could've solved that.

I guess the fact I wrote so much about this says either that I do like it or that I want to like it more than I do (or that I need to better address my self-editing). The stuff it does well pleases me greatly, whereas the complaints aren't quite enough to make me send the thing to an early retirement.

Overall assessment then seems to be: It's better than decent, but know what you're getting into.

I've heard great things about this aquarium and I'm excited to give it a try. My biggest complaint so far is that it doesn't fit onto the railing of our crib. Our crib is a pretty standard size (made by Pali) so I'm very frustrated and disappointed to see that it doesn't fit. We still want to give it a try as our baby really seems to like it so we're going to find a way to make it work. My sisterand brother-in-law had the same problem with it and their crib. Another few inches of strap and this would fit perfectly. It's a HUGE oversight on the part of Baby Einstein!

Buy Baby Einstein Sea Dreams Soother Now

I ordered this about a month ago when my son was 7 months. So far we use it most nights & he hast gotten tired of it yet. He enjoys turning it on & off himself by pushing the star . My only issues with the soother are that 1) it's kind of loud for a soother, even on the lowest setting, 2) it does run those batteries down pretty quickly, and 3) the price, it seems a little bit expensive to me. Still, a nice product that engages, settles & pleases my little guy, so 4 stars!

Read Best Reviews of Baby Einstein Sea Dreams Soother Here

We love this aquarium. It is super cute and plays really good classical music or ocean sounds. My daughter can't see the aquarium yet (she is only one month old) but she listens to the music. It is very soothing. The ocean scene with bubbles looks like real water and all the animals move back and forth. Great product and definitely worth the money, especially compared to the other soothers on the market!

Lamaze Xylophone Bird House

Lamaze Xylophone Bird HouseI BOUGHT THIS AS A BABY SHOWER PRESENT. MY FRIENDS ARE DOING A BIRD THEME IN THEIR LITTLE GIRLS ROOM AND I THOUGHT IT WAS A PERFECT ACCENT. I DIDNT BUY IT FOR ITS "EDUCATIONAL" VALUE BUT BECAUSE IT WAS VERY CUTE, COLORFUL, SUITED FOR THE DECOR, AND I THINK IN THE END WHEN THEIR BABY ARRIVES WILL BECOME AN ENTERTAINING TOY.

I guess this xylophone looks good on a shelf, but that's about the limit of its usefulness. The packaging is ridiculously over-engineered. It should not take two tool-wielding adults to unwrap a toy. The tone bars are the least musical I've ever heard on any kid's toy. The sound they make is not only unmusical, it's downright unpleasant. But that's ok, because my baby (within the recommended age range for this toy) isn't interested in it anyway, except maybe to twirl the little birdie once or twice. Then she moves on to toys with a little more to offer.

Yeah the Birdhouse is super adorable but that's it. It has a real terrible design. Since the music bars are on top and slant down either sides of the roof it was even impossilbe for me a grown adult to play a song. Nothing extraordinary with this inflatable pool toy, however, the Grandbaby loves to use it in the bath tub and it fits perfectly in a standard sized tub. Summer Infant Disney Winnie the Pooh Hunny Hive Bath Toy

Summer Infant Disney Winnie the Pooh Hunny Hive Bath ToyMy daughter loves Winnie the Pooh, so I thought this toy would be the perfect addition to bath time. I was so wrong! No matter how we angle the toy, the wheel does NOT spin and is useless. Now it just sticks to the side of the bath for decoration.

This product is durable as well as cute. My granddaughter loves the way the wheel spins when she pours water into the Hunny Pot.

Buy Summer Infant Disney Winnie the Pooh Hunny Hive Bath Toy Now

While I am a huge fan of Disney, and Winne the Pooh in particular, this toy really fell short at bathtime. The toy has to sit at the exact right angle in order for the flowing water to hit the spinner and make it spin. Even when it is suction cupped to the wall, most of the time the water doesn't make the spinner spin, which really frustrates my son.

Also, I wish the spinner behind the bee was colored. Because it is clear, it isn't very visually stimulating, and very hard to see.

Melissa & Doug Dinosaur Grasping Toy

Melissa & Doug Dinosaur Grasping ToyGreat manipulative toy. My nephew enjoys it. I was disappointed to see that Amazon has it listed as 6 months and up and the package says 1 year and up. Not a big deal, but it might matter to someone if they order it for a little one.

I was not disappointed in this grasping toy from Melissa and Doug. Initially I was somewhat concerned about pinched fingers getting caught in joints or bands for hair to get caught in, but we have had no such issues. The dinosaur is very well constructed and there is little to no possibility of pinches. My daughter is easily able to twist and manipulate the individual segments and has remained amused by this toy over the past two months. There have been no issues with chipping paint or broken pieces (this is a toy that stays in her play pen so its survived quite a few tosses onto the hardwood floors).

I recently purchased this toy for my 8 month old son. He has other Melissa & Doug toys that he loves and I was very excited to give him this new toy. When it arrived I was very pleased with the design, bright colors and I was sure he would love it. The first time I gave it to him he was thrilled!!! He loved holding it by the neck and the tail, swinging it around and putting the feet in his mouth. I was very pleased with my purchase and knew that he would get lots of use out of it. Then to my horror I realized that his mouth was full of paint chips!!! He has put the feet in his mouth a couple of times for under a minute total, but that was enough to soften the paint and cause it to start chipping. After taking it away from him I closely examined the toy and discovered that I could remove large chunks by rubbing my fingernail lightly over the surface. I immediately returned the toy for a refund. When packaging this item for return I also realized that the package states that this toy is for 1+ years. The Amazon listing states that it is for 6 months and up. Over all I would not recommend this toy for any young child due to the paint issue, otherwise it would be 5 stars.

Melissa & Doug Deluxe Happy Hippo Pull Toy

Melissa & Doug Deluxe Happy Hippo Pull ToyMy son received this toy as a gift for his birthday. I am very impressed with how sturdy it is! He has taken this toy up and down the steps (all 13 of them) many times, and you would never know it, because the toy shows no signs of wear. He is fascinated with the moving mouth, and loves dragging it behind him all over the house. This toy reminds me of one I had as a child; it's nice to see that there's a company that still makes sturdy, classic toys that are reasonably priced.

My little one loves to pull her hippo all around the house. It's crafted very nicely... as are most Melissa & Doug wooden toys. I like that it's a classic wooden toy, a nice change from so many of her plastic, bells-and-whistle type toys. Even though she was able to walk around for awhile, she didn't really start to enjoy the toy for several months after walking/running. My only complaint is that the gadget/wheel that creates the open-and-shut mouth motion often falls off alignment. I have to manually realign the wheel to get it to open and shut again. Not a huge deal, but still somewhat inconvenient being its only "main" feature. I've also seen this toy in the frog version... which is also really cute.

Buy Melissa & Doug Deluxe Happy Hippo Pull Toy Now

After multiple children, the toy is still as cute as it was when originally purchased and ready to be passed on to our 11month old daughter. It has been thrown against walls, taken down stairs, running with a toddler, yet still works and has never had to be fixed. What can i say, its tons of fun and works great. Plus it survived this long.

That is exactly why we started buying only wood toys for our children--> plastic ones break to easily and its hard to fix them. Wood toys can easily be fixed and can be handed down generations to come. Plus they are hand made and parents can admire the craftsmanship.

Sponge Bob Square Pants Water Wow Doodle Book Magic Pen

Sponge Bob Square Pants Water Wow Doodle Book Magic PenI'm not very happy with the new water doodle pads and pen. The point on the pen scratches off the finish of the pictures and the kids can squeeze the water out of the pen making a big mess! All of the pages in the the doodle pad warped as they dried and the kids don't want to play with them anymore. I wish they would change the pens back to the type with the felt tip made of hard plastic with the screw top. I won't buy anymore of these and don't recommend them. :-(

My 2 year old son loves this. He will sit and draw for over an hour, which is unheard of for him. I love that the water dries and he can draw over and over. By the time he finishes a picture, part of it has already dried, so there's always more to draw. The only slight issue I have is that I wish the base of the pages was plastic not cardboard. After a lot of use/water, the cardboard starts to break down. But overall, I highly recommend this. It I by far the best drawing/ activity book over purchased. We have 2! (We also have the circus book.)
