First of all, the price listed here at Amazon.com is cheaper than Toys'R'Us or even Wal-mart...otherwise, I think it's ridiculous to pay more than ten bucks for this toy.
The medium and large cubes each have an opening on one side, so you can place the small cube within the medium cube, and the medium cube within the large cube. They stick up out of each other just enough for little fingers to pull them out, or you can just dump them upside down. If you turn them upside-down, they become stackable.
We got this for our son when he was four months old to teach him hand-eye coordination...he learned to stack them before he could place them inside each other. (My son is the kind of kid who learned to open our dogs' kennel latches before he figured out how to get the rings on his cone toy.) He still plays with the cubes, and he's thirteen months old now.
His favorite piece has always been the small cube because it rattles inside. The big cube has a mound of "bananas" inside, and the medium one has a tree stump both are great for exploring with tiny fingertips. He likes putting some of his other peek-a-blocks inside the medium and large cubes...the small cube works with toys like the peek-a-block goldfish.
This toy is also easy to clean, which makes it a great "sharing" toy for playdates. It's also a nice way to carry "three toys in one" in your diaper bag without taking up much space.
This is a great, simple, beginner educational toy! I love that you can see through the pieces, and some of the pictures move around. My daughter has played with this toy almost daily for the past year. It seems so simple, but this toy has provided hours of entertainment for our little one! I'm confident it will do the same for your child!

I recently purchased these for my 7 month old. The largest block on the bottom is too big for him. He likes the bright colors and is very engaged by the smaller blocks, but hit himself in the head right away with the largest block. Its just too big for him to manage at this age. We've had to put that part of the toy away until he gets a little bigger. I know there are better options out there because we had some for my older son (but unfortunately can't find them now). The soft knock-knock blocks we have are a much more age-appropriate toy.

I gave this to my 10-month-old niece, and she loves it. It really is three toys in one, so it will hold a baby's interest for a long time.

I got this set for my son when he was 5 months old, and he still plays with it regularly after 10 months--and he is no pushover when it comes to toys. This toy continues to be one of his favorites--it is so open-ended that it allows him many opportunities to experiment. The blocks are really cute and each has something interesting going on inside (the hollow blocks are double-walled and have jungle-themed moving elements enclosed). You can stack or nest them (or shake or throw or fill them up or chew on them), and they are compatible with all the other cool Peek-A-Blocks and accessories, which are the same size as the center block. They are easy to pack up in a diaper bag and take with you, and the set has survived all sorts of "uses" without damage. I would definitely buy this again--but fortunately I don't have to!!
My little one is almost a year old and this is still one of his favorites! He's teething and the different keys are great for him to gnaw on. This is one of the few toys he plays with repeatedly. I like it because it is a great teething toy, but it goes one step further with the music. The volume isn't too loud and the music button is easy to push.
