Fisher-Price Brilliant Basics Classic Xylophone

These are such fun, classic toys. My kids (almost 1 and 3 years) both love it! It has the added bonus of being on wheels for pulling all over the house. I only wish the cord were a bit longer. I understand the fear that kids are going to hurt themselves, but if it were even an inch or two longer it would be able to reach the farthest keys. As it stands, my daughter has to really tug at it and hold it awkwardly to reach the farthest key.

I picked the Fisher Price for the durability, believing the overall quality would be good as well. I was terribly disappointed when we opened this for my daughter's birthday to find many of the bars out of tune. Also, the sting is too short for her to get the mallet to the bars. I understand it is short for safety, but even an adult has to struggle with reaching all the bars to tap. I do not like it and will be purchasing something to replace it in the future.

This seems like a bad version of what was once a good toy..

1. Pull cord connected to mallet is too short.... So short you can barely play the xylophone. I understand you don't want it long enough for a kid to choke themselves with,--but come on- 2 more inches would really help. (Update: discovered that this cord length helps very young babies play the instrument)

2. It's not on key. Just a bit off.

3. The London bridges song plays so fast when you pull the xylophone along that it is unrecognizable. You can try to pull it really slow...really really slow....

What happened to quality control, Fisher Price? This is sad.

This, unlike many toys like it, does not tip over when he stands up behind it and takes a licking and keeps on ticking. It helped my son learn how to walk with confidence and I strongly recommend it over other push/pull ride on combo toys. The tool box and blocks were an added bonus to an already great toy.

This product was bought as a Christmas gift for my young son. Not only did he immediately take to the toy but so did my many young cousins. It was very cute to watch. Our son is 18 months and LOVES trucks. But this is not a good toy. He is already losing interest in this, after just a week. The wheels barely turn, the steering handle is awkward and it is bulky and wide, making it both hard to steer and hard to get on and off. The whole thing seems very cheap. And the sounds just drive us crazy (although he does like that part of it). Overall, not a good purchase.

Mary Meyer Sweet Rascals Plush Cassidy Kitty 9"

I received this plush as a gift long before my daughter's birth. She rediscovered him when she was one years old and now, at 29 months, they are still the very best of friends. I ordered extras to have in case we lost the original--which just happened last week! So we're ordering some more spares now.

Our personal experience does not show this toy is not for small children, as you can guess from my daughter dragging her Cecil Kitty (our name for him) everywhere, including in the crib, on airplane flights, in restaurants, everywhere she went, Cecil went. He is also in both her firstand second-birthday photographs and our Christmas cards. (he looks sharp in a little white bow tie, since he is already in a tuxedo.)

Cecil (Cassidy) is soft and floppity and mooshable. He goes through the washer and dryer time and again without any problem. He also likes to eat baby food and pancakes and juice and pasta sauce and anything else my daughter eats. Spray him down with good stain remover (if you can handle spraying the toxic stuff in his face), wash him, and he's good as new.

If you are looking for a new best friend for a kid who loces cats, you could do a lot worse than this plush. We love him, and my daughter loves him, and he is the best friend ever.

I was pleasantly surprised by just how soft this cute little kitty is. Nice and squishy perfect for cuddling with. I purchased it for my 1 year old after reading reviews that Mary Meyer products are child-safe. She loves it (especially because it looks like our cat at home), but I have found her on two occasions with fur in her mouth after she chews on the head. (She's teething so anything is fair game.) As a result, this kitty is only played with under close supervision and I will not let her play with it unsupervised until she is past the phase of putting everything in her mouth.

Otherwise, for stuffed animal collectors, I can see how this would be a very popular item. It has a cute little face, takes up very little space and is incredibly soft.

Fisher-Price Laugh and Learn: Learning Kitchen

This is one of my son's Fisher-Price toys that he actually plays with. He is 17 months and is not interested in things that just make noise and flash lights anymore. With this toy he practices putting the shapes through the holes, turning on and off the light, putting the food on the shelf in the fridge, and putting the pan on the stove, in the oven, and in the sink. We also ask him questions and talk to him about the toy so he learns various foods and kitchen items. All toys are more fun for kids when you interact with them!

With four settings, I don't get as tired of listening to this toy as I do others each setting has different phrases and music that keep it interesting for the child and adult. I don't think he'll play with it for too much longer, but we will probably get it out again as soon as our next child can sit up.

After reading other reviews, I also wanted to say that our son has never pinched his fingers in the door and spends a good amount of time opening, closing, and moving the kitchen around. He used to pinch his fingers all the time in our real kitchen cabinets, so maybe this is a live and learn thing.

The only thing I would change is a way to keep it closed and a handle so it could be moved around with the pieces inside.

UPDATE: My son continued to play A LOT with this toy until he was 26 months old and we bought him a Kidkraft wooden kitchen. Even then he still played with this for a few weeks until I finally put it away. Granted, he is very into kitchen/cooking type activities, but I really think you can't go wrong with this toy from about 6 months and on, for boys or girls! We spent many hours playing with this together.

I was hesitant to buy this toy after reading reviews about babies' fingers getting smashed. I'm a hand surgeon, so the whole smashing fingers thing goes against most of my principles! However, the kitchen looked so fun that I thought I'd give it a shot, and return it if the risk was real. I closely supervised my 8 month old for a few weeks she totally loved all the songs and sound effects, but never got fingers caught anywhere. Though, her favorite thing to do is swipe down all the "groceries" (comes with milk, carrots, and ketchup) that I stack on the shelf of the fridge door.

I tried to close my own fingers in the door, and really couldn't figure out how this could smash fingers. I compared the toy we received to the one in the manufacturer pics ... the door has been redesigned since those pics were taken (I'm assuming in response to the finger-smashing thing). You can see the difference in multiple pictures, but especially the 4th one from the left on the Amazon site that's kind of an oblique view with the door closed. The white part of our door is cut so that there's a 2 inch segment that can actually touch the blue base, but the remainder of the door has a space so that fingers can't get caught.

Reviewers also commented that their kids knocked the kitchen over. My little girl did that a few times at first when she didn't know how to swing to door of the fridge open on the hinge. Once she figured it out, it didn't topple except when she pushed it over on purpose we can tell by her giggles and proud face. I only gave 4 stars because the "range" on the first kitchen we got didn't play music when you pressed it. The range on the second one worked, but the ball above it that you roll (which happened to be one of her fave parts of the first fridge) didn't play music reliably. So, a little lacking on the quality control, but still worth it once you get one that is fully functional.

If you have Fisher-Price Brilliant Basics Baby's First Blocks, the round, triangular, and square blocks from this set also fit through the door in the fridge part of the kitchen!

Just noticed the current selling price is the retail price... I happened to get this for 40-50% off, which is a good value and what I think the toy is actually worth. Not sure that it's worth the full retail value, especially when I've gone through 2 that don't work 100%.

This toy REALLY held my 10 month olds interest, she loves it BUT she has smashed her fingers twice in less than a week! It opens and closes too easily, the fridge door is too light compared to the sink side and when slightly moved one side always falls shut on the other. Since she likes to move it around her little hands keep getting caught. All babies are curious and cannot be expected to leave a toy sitting where you leave it. Since she is so entertained with it we took the center hinge out so that she can still play with the two separate parts.

I read on the saftey issues other people had and adjusted the toy:

Put the hard side of velcro on the bottom of the toy so it will "cacth" on carpet. This will hold the toy in place and it wont topple over as easily. If you have hard wood, simply apply the soft side of the velcro to where your child plays with the toy (its just tape and will come off when cleaned). As for the pinching finger, if you have the toy on foam flooring, it makes it not so easy to close the fridge door.. child hasnt pinched fingers for the months she has played with it.

This is a very cute toy. My 1 year old daughter got it for her bday and enjoys playing with it. The only real issue with it is that the two sides fold up too easily and her fingers get caught in between the two pieces and she of course cries. I've taken it away from her for now until she gets older or we figure out a solution to it not closing on her fingers. I've read some reports of the same thing happening to other little ones so I'm not alone on this.

Garanimals Wooden Stacking Rings

Terrible toy. I bought this for my child this weekend and already the toy looks like I've had it for years. It is not durable and the paint chips off. That can't be safe. My child will no longer be playing with this.

I was looking for a wooden ring stacker for my 13 month old, more as a decoration for his room than anything else. I searched on Amazon and saw this one, which I thought was adorable with the different colors, but I thought it was a little overpriced so I hesitated buying it. A few days later I was at Wal-Mart and glanced down a toy aisle and saw a "Garanimals" display. I decided to see if they had it because I thought I could at least save money on shipping by buying it in store. They did have it and it was not $22.99 as sold on Amazon...it was $5! Yes, $5. I bought one and I really like it, as does my son. It is a little on the small side, maybe about 10 inches tall, but the colors are very nice.

Save yourself nearly $20 and buy this from Wal-Mart. Amazon sometimes has wonderful prices, but this is not one of those times!

Banging the gavel during your mandatory hearing for sentencing the case where you allegedly assaulted a costumed fast food clown, who later required stitches and surgical removal of a seltzer bottle from an undisclosed bodily orifice, is not a good idea. The judge said something about me "mocking" her or something like that. I don't know, I couldn't hear her over the loud and amusing noise that the gavel made when I banged it on the defendant's table. I think I got something like thirty days in contempt. I tried to explain that I just like percussive novelty items, that I wasn't trying to be contemptuous, as they alleged. Until it was forcefully pried from my hand by that bailiff, I really enjoyed this novelty gavel quite a bit. Although it was confiscated from my person at the time of my incarceration, the intake officers informed me that I will be able to have it back upon my release.

I purchased this for my classroom. I teach social studies and we reenacted a trial that I needed a gavel for. It's certainly not loud since it's made of plastic, but it looks great. If you need something that is loud I suggest you look for something else, but if you need it just for looks and for playing this is a great option.

The product arrive nice and fast, and it's plastic. However, it's not thick plastic, it's pretty thin, and I can push in on it with my finger. It was cheap, so I guess you get what you pay for. I think this can be used as a good hand prop, but not functional.

Blue GeoAir Remote Control Flash Jet Plane for the GeoTrax Transportation System

My 4 year old received his first Geotrax train set for his 1st birthday that included a remote control train, bridge, and a couple of location stops. We waited until he was a little older before we set it up to ensure that he could play with it and had an interest. I can't remember the first time we set it up (maybe when he was 2 1/2), but I believe the interest quickly took off for both him and his younger brother (age 2 1/2). Since then, we had added more track to allow for more track layouts.

A few months ago, we added the new Fisher-Price Transportation System GeoAir High-Flyin' Airportwhich includes a remote control airplane. Very cool! For Christmas,they received the Fisher Price Geo Trax Grand Central Station Mega Set, Mountain Blast Construction Site, and Fisher-Price GeoTrax Rail and Road System Helicopter. We also added the Fly-By Bridge with GeoAir Expansion Track (which is the item that allows the GeoAir Airport and Geotrax Train sets to be connected) and the GeoTrax Transportation System GeoAir Remote Control Blue Flash Jet Plane.

Our current layout allows all the pieces to be tied together the trains can go from downtown, through the country, past the bridge and airport, down to the mountain quarry and return in one trip! The boys love it!

Highly recommended train set for toddlers and I can see the interest staying for a few more years. In addition, very durable. You will go through lots of batteries though the planes, trains, and remote controls all take batteries.

GEO Trax , including this plane , all around is a great great toy for kids. My 4 year old has been playing with them since he was 2 and I expect him to play with them until at least 6 well worth the hundreds of dollars we have probably invested.

Fisher-Price Stacking Vehicle Fire Truck

I ordered this set for my grandson's 1st birthday. HE LOVES IT! Derek is really into all types of cars right now and I knew Fischer Price would be safe as all toys make their way into the mouth when children are young. The firetruck makes a honking sound when you first push the button on top, then the 2nd time you push the button it plays a little song. The cars make sounds when you push the button people on top while stacking them too. Derek and his 2 yr old cousin both had so much fun playing with these toys all afternoon, along with the Fischer Price tractor and stacking farm animals that I got for my elderly parents to give to him. Both sets say "6 months +" on the packages but they clearly kept a 1 yr old and 2 yr old entertained for hours!

Got these for my daughter as a baby, who is now 4. The colors allow them to be pretty much unisex. She loved them! Theyve held up wonderfully. A few months ago I passed them down to my now 1 year old son and he loves them just as much.

My 11 month old received this toy for Christmas this year and LOVES it. However, like most children his age he is teething and sticks everything in his mouth. Well, the paint on the characters is coming off in his mouth. So, we have to watch him very carefully so that he isn't putting the little characters in his mouth. Other than the paint coming off, it's a cute toy. It doesn't do much, but it entertains my son for at least 10 minutes and that's quite an achievement!!

My son received the smartville ice cream shop for his first bday. he played with it all the time. We bought him the rest of the set for christmas. This is definitely his favorite toy. He is 15 months now and he plays with this set almost all day long. This is one of the best things I could have bought for him. He understands how it works by placing the characters on the round spots. I feel it will be a great teaching tool for when he is ready to learn the alphabet and his numbers.

My 1-year old son really enjoys this particular V-Tech toy (he has several). The stacking feature (package and letter) is a nice challenge. As V-Tech states, the add-ons (e.g., eagle) in these smaller units work with the large Alphabet Train Station. Love the volume control and auto shut-off features. Great buy at the low sale price. At the full price, may be better to save for the large train station.

Other than chewing of the little animals, my grandson doesn't play with this toy at all. He's had it for months and still no interest. He has his favorite toys but this isn't one of them. I wish I hadn't spent the money on it. I'm not even sure how a baby is suppose to play with this toy. There is no car to go down the road or bridge or what ever that blue thing is. You can't put the letter in the mail box, there is no place to put it "in". You can push it through the large hole in the top, but it's not the shape of the letter, and the mail box doesn't stand up on it's own. You're suppose to put the animals on the center magnet and it will tell you what it is, an owl and a couple others having nothing to do with mail. It's even hard for me to make it work, but it doesn't seem like much fun.

You never know when you are going to find that one perfect accessory that women can't seem to take their eyes off of. Last year it was the fanny-pack designed to be worn UNDER your pants. This year the inflatable beard is going to make last year seem like a bad dream that lasted about a year. Virtually maintenance-free (unlike a real beard which requires frequent waxing and buttering), this "inflataphrodisiac" (a word that everyone who buys one of these will understand the minute he stares persistently at a strange woman in an elevator) is the perfect accompaniment to my inflatable chest-hair wig. I feel like manliness coated in ruggedness and wrapped in bacon, while on a date or robbing a liquor store, but for convenience it's easily removable at the beach, when scrubbing in for surgery, or when "things get intimate" (but if she wants you to leave it on....and she might...it can be sprayed off with an ordinary garden hose afterwards) . This cart is easy to put together. My daughter races around the house with it and it bounces off walls with minimal damage to the cart or the wall. Little Einstein'S Symphony Composer

My 2 1/2 year old daughter LOVES the Little Einsteins shows/videos. She had a lot of fun playing with this toy, but I have two complaints.

One, similar to previous reviews, the "Do-Re-Mi" sung by the character buttons is out of tune. Ugh. However, my husband pointed out that the characters often sing out of tune on the TV show/videos too. So maybe they are just trying to stay consistent? I don't mind it so much on the show, but for $20 I'd like the notes in tune.

Second, the instrument knobs that move up and down have to be placed "just so" next to the red dots in order to make them play their little tune. A child will, no doubt, eventually learn that. But they might ignore that part of the toy for a while until they do.

Those things said, I can't deny that my daughter loved the toy. The Little Einstein characters and familiar music were the draw.

I was thinking about buying this for my daughter, but when I tried it out at the store, the little characters sang "do re me" etc. but completely out of tune! Would it have been so hard to program it in tune? Why not do it right so kids could actually learn something? Another example of someone's good idea done badly.

The solfege buttons at the top of the toy weren't even close to being in tune to a major scale. Hopefully, they will consult a musician and revise this product. This problem alone makes this is an irritating noisemaker.

This is a great toy for babies. However, it's kind of boring and small so my lil one loses interest fast. I would probably recommend this for babies under 18 months. That being said it is very durable and has bright colors that are good for teaching colors. This is my go to toy for car rides because its quiet and won't break anything!! It is also a good toy for sand box and dirt because it can be hosed down.

I bought this truck for my one year old grandson; he likes big trucks that make a lot of noise. It seemed like a perfect match, but when I opened the package the truck was only about 1/3 of the size that I thought it would be. If there was a size indicator on the web page, I did not see it. How fun is the toy? 4/5 It's a fun toy. The boy plays with it but he's just now adding trucks to his toy collection. Hard to judge but read my story below.

Educational Value = 3/5 I can't rank the educational value of this toy so I'm sitting on the fence, giving it a 3/5. Perhaps it will help with motor skills development and imagination but I'm not calling this an educational toy. That ranking category needs to be optional so potential buyers aren't mislead by falsely low scores. It should have a N/A option.

Durability = 5/5 This is a great soft truck for a little boy to play with. The wheels move freely, it rolls nice on the hard woof floors, the lights are clear and the voice over is easy to understand.

Overall = 5/5 I have to rank it this high to offset the educational score and equalize the rank. I'd probably give it a 4/5 and perhaps down the road it may become his favorite.

The toy was purchased for my 19 month old son for Christmas. He also has the larger Chuck and Rowdy. We accidentally purchased 2 of these between the wife and I so 1 went to our friends son. We didn't wrap this truck because we weren't sure we'd give it to the boy. As with all kids, he found the box, pushed down on the lights and Handy started talking and flashing the tow lights. Our son was hooked. It's a nice toy for a little guy who's just starting to get into trucks. It talks and moves around easily and flashes it's lights. In the end, it's a good toy.

I sure do wish there was a large version of the same toy but we've been hard pressed to find it.

Go ahead and buy it. It will be played with long beyond the age of a 19 month old. Who knows, if Tonka makes a full size version perhaps this little one and the big one could be a father son combo. Ohh the potential.

Kidkraft Chenille Upholstered Rocker and Ottoman

I was very disappointed with the quality of the Rocker and Ottoman. One of the feet on the Ottoman has a large crack running through it. It looks as if the manufacturer tried to paint over it, but it is very noticable. The back of the rocker has a rip in the material and it is coming apart at the seam. You can see the foam underneath. It is a very cute chair, but the quality just isn't there.

My daughter loves this chair and it's very cute. Unfortunately it's a light color so stains and wear are very noticeable. Also the texture of the chair is difficult to clean. No problems with quality upon receipt.

My 6 year old and 1 year old both love the chair. They carry it around the living room, climb on it and take turns. It's easy to wipe clean with a damp cloth and fits in nicely with almost any decor. The baby likes to climb on and over and around it, but is also learning to sit nicely because the chair fits him so well. We didn't think the 6-year-old would love it as much as she does. We probably should have gotten one for each of them!

This rocker and ottaman combo are a nice pick. Both are made of good quality materials and are well built. My 2 year old loves it. Now he has somewhere comfortable to sit and watch TV with mommy and daddy. Very easy to clean.

This chair is super cute! My daughter loved it and played in/on it often. The chair is made of a solid wood frame, and particle board seat, covered in foam and soft chenile fabric in a soft pink color. The result is a sturdy feeling, solid chair, but soft to sit on and cozy. Keep in mind, however, that the seat under the fabric and foam is particle board so don't let your kids stand on it as I did or they may break right through...as our child did while standing on the seat.
