Little Tikes Cozy Push & Ride Coupe

Little Tikes Cozy Push & Ride CoupeMy husband and I really loved this toy, especially the functionality of the removable handle, so we took our son to the local Toys R' Us to try it out. My son absolutely loved it, but he kept sliding down in the seat and trying to climb out. We looked at a few other competitor's models and found them to have safety belts, which made them preferable. We cannot understand why a company as large as Little Tykes that specializes in children's toys does not comprehend the need for a safety belt on their ride on toys! Anyway, we read one of the reviews on this toy where a woman ordered a replacement belt for the toddler high back swing from the Little Tykes website and drilled and cut holes in this car and added this seat belt to make it safer. Well, we found a better way of installing a seat belt. A competitor, Step 2, has a product called the "Push Around Buggy" which has a seat belt that screws into the car. I went to their website and called their phone number and ordered a replacement belt for their item, which only costs around $2.50! What a deal! Well, all you have to do is screw the seat belt straps into each side of the car and viola', you have a safer version of the Little Tykes Cozy Push and Ride Car. We sincerely hope Little Tykes will catch on to parent's concerns about the safety of their little ones and make sure all of their ride on toys are equipped with a safety belt!

I bought this toy as an alternative to my stroller for taking walks around the neighborhood. My son (I bought this for him at 17 months) would get bored in the stroller, so I thought this would be fun. Well, he does really like this car, but there are some issues with it. First, there is no safety belt, so your child can attempt to stand whenever the desire moves them. Second, when pushing him on cement it is extremely loud (my husband wanted me to stop using it for this reason alone--I cannot overemphasize how loud this thing is! We were concerned with hearing loss). Last, although there is a cup holder on the inside for baby, it would be nice to have some type of holder on the exterior for the parents--to hold a beverage, or keys or something. If the wheels were redesigned to make this toy quieter, an exterior cup holder added, and especially a safety belt added I would give this 5 stars. For now, I give it 3.

Prior to purchasing this sweet ride, my son had the ridden many a mile in the standard Little Tikes Cozy Coupe. After suffering through days of back pain, I realized their had to be a better way...well, this is it. This car had 2 distinct advantages over the cozy coupe:

1) The removable push handle..saves the old back. Also allows me to push for longer periods of time, and this has all but replaced our stroller.

2) Removable floorboard...although my son wanted to be pushed in the cozy coupe, he would sometimes forget to lift his feet, thus scraping his toes and causing many "ouchies"...removable floorboard prevents this in push mode. He can always remove when ready to push himself in Flintstone mode.

Bottom line: This vehicle is more versatile than the cozy coupe. There's nothing the cozy coupe can do that this vehicle can't.

I bought this for my son when he was 9 months old. He too got bored with the stroller. I loved the built in cup holder! The only problem was that since the floorboard was in he would try to stand up. There was no seat belt to secure him in. We found a way to fix the problem: We cut off the staps off an old grocery shopping cart and bolted them into the back of the car. This completely worked and was a life safer. So if anyone needs a seat belt try that.

My 20 month-old got this for Christmas, and I have never seen him so excited over a toy! He calls for his "cah-cah" (car-car) the first thing every morning and basically has to be pried from it for eating or nap time. He loves the opening door. Since he's a bigger baby, he's just the right size to push it with his feet, but for longer walks, it's a must to have the floorboard in so his feet won't drag.

I was a little surprised that this version of the Cozy Coupe is a good bit smaller than the original Coupe without the push-bar. My five year old is way to big for it, although it's perfect for my 20 month old when the floorboard is out. With the floorboard in, he still fits in it, but his knees are almost up by the steering wheel because the floorboard sits pretty high. He doesn't mind at all, though, and seems realy comfortable when we go for walks.

I thought the suggestion from another reviewer about ordering a replacement screw-in seat belt for a similar push and ride car from the Step 2 company was ingenious. I've called and ordered one, since having a seat belt seems necessary for going on walks. My son also sometimes tries to stand up and climb out while I'm pushing it.

Also, another review from a few years ago commented on how LOUD these plastic wheels are on pavement or concrete. After reading her comment and remembering how loud my older son's regular Cozy Coupe was, I went out and bought 2 rolls of black electrical tape and wound half of each roll around the middle part of each wheel, making a kind of cushiony strip around the middle of each. I think it helped with noise a lot, and the black tape is hardly noticable. If you've already used the car outside, you might need to clean the wheels and dry them so the tape will stick.

I do wish the car were a bit bigger and had a seatbelt, but all in all, I think my son (and me and Dad) will really get a lot of enjoyment out of it!

Fisher-Price Laugh & Learn Learn & Move Music Station

Fisher-Price Laugh & Learn Learn & Move Music StationIt DOES interact with the TV, for example in the "animal abc" game, the animals only change when you hit a key. It is a little slow, and I am not sure my 1yr old is seeing the cause and effect either. The cause and effect she does see is when she pushes the buttons on the sensor!

However the music part is great and she LOVES that. She plays and dances and has a great time.

The only real disadvantage is that it is easy to tip over. Now, she does have to intentionally push it, but she's a toddler, so what do you think she is going to do? And she then either gets it pulled back up but hits herself in the head OR she can't get it back up. (Depending on how and where it falls.) So you can imagine how frustrating it is for her. (Oh my! She just picked it up!)I wish it was heavier so she couldn't lift or tilt it.

I have similar issues with other Fisher Price toys. For some reason they can't figure out how to make a toy that doesn't tip. I usually find a way to modify the toy to make it more stable. If I find a way for this one, I will post it.

Firstly, I think it is important to state that I have only had this item for lest than a week. I will most likely add to my review after some time has passed.

My initial impression though is a good one. I bought this for my 10 month old son, so that he would have a fun toy to stand up and play with. The keyboard is of great quality, and the three other play buttons along the top are fun for him as well.

The only downside is that the interactive part of the toy that you plug into the TV is currently useless for us. The software is too slow, so there is a delay that currently makes it too difficult for my son to understand that there is any cause and effect happening. He much prefers it in either of the other two keyboard modes, so that he can hear sounds when he hits the keys.

Perhaps as he grows older we will find that the interactive part of the toy becomes usable, but as for now we will just enjoy making sweet music on the keyboard itself.

Buy Fisher-Price Laugh & Learn Learn & Move Music Station Now

We took this toy out of the box and had it up and running in five minutes. Our intention was for our 11 month son to practice standing, but also have something lean on if needed. He loves our real piano, so we thought it would be perfect.

It is solidly built, and has great sound when used in stand-alone mode. Keeps my little guy interested for quite a while. The tv interaction has very smooth and almost un-noticeable transitions. For example the color keys will change the background color of the screen, while the animation stays the same.

However, my 3 year old daughter noticed immediately how the keys changed the colors, and she could change the animations using the trumpet slide or guitar roller to make slight changes in the animations and music. I had a hard time keeping her away from it so that my son could use it!

I had to put some strips of velcro on the rear legs, because when used in the upright settiing, it tends to slide all over the floor and my little guy would topple over. It surprises me that they diddnt think of this. After that slight modification it has worked hours without any incident.

My son is 15 months old and can run the remote for the TV, but this game does not hold his attention at all. He likes the keyboard, but the interactivity is so slow that he is bored with it before it is done loading. He is more entertained by manipulating the console, because that has a cause and effect. The actual games are useless. At first, I just thought it was broken because nothing seemed to be happening when you hit the keyboards, but no, it was just really slow. First it sits at the loading screen for at least 30 seconds. Then, after loading it just shows you a picture of some shape or animal. That's it. 30 seconds after that, you get to the 'game.' But you have to wait some more for it do anything. And then, after hitting the button, there is enough of a lag before anything happens, that my son is already off doing something else. All in all: FAIL.

Manhattan Toy Brilliant Bear Magnetic Stack-up

Manhattan Toy Brilliant Bear Magnetic Stack-upMy son is turning 1 next month and he really likes this toy. I stack it for him and he knocks it down. He chews on the pieces and they are very durable, the paint doesn't chip and it doesn't show teeth marks. Now we have a game were I try to get it stacked before he can knock it down. We go back and forth like that and honestly it's fun for me too. We have electronic toys that light up and play music but I honestly think he prefers this, we can play with it for a long time without him getting bored. Also it's very attractive and bright. I think it would make a nice display piece on a shelf too.

Poppity Elephant

Poppity ElephantThe poppity elephant an excellent toy. Since it wasn't in the first wave a peek-a-block toys, fisher price really seemed to put a lot of thought into it and make it great. My 13 month old loves it. The blocks can be incorporated many ways (which wasn't true of the giraffe and ark there was really only one intended way to use the blocks), the toy rolls, plays songs, and pops the blocks around. Plus, it plays several songs (and also has an off switch) so that you won't get sick of a certain song. Highly recommended!!!

I bought this toy for my one year old and he loves it. Just one problem which in my opinion is enough to suggest you not buy it; my son doesn't use the string. He grabbed the top of the toy to push it and the square in the middle, which pops up and down when you move it, caught his finger and he screamed at the top of his lungs. His finger was stuck. I had to pull it out.Maybe it was a one in a million chance but when he plays with it now(yes I still let him play with it because he really enjoys it) I am very cautious and watch where he puts his hands.

Buy Poppity Elephant Now

We received this as a first birthday present, and were happy to see that it went well with our daughter's two other Peek-a-Blocks presents. She enjoyed pulling the string and leading the elephant around the kitchen. She liked the elephant noises. I sang along with the music -it's one of those things where it can drive you nuts if you resist.

The reviewers who gave it a poor setting don't understand the toy. There are two volume settings, so the music doesn't have to be loud. Blocks can pop around in the "saddle" -it's meant to look like it's doing circus flips, and two of the blocks that come with the set work well with this. Other Peek-A-Blocks also can have fun flipping. The popper is NOT intended to toss it down the elephant's trunk. Toddlers can make the blocks slide down the trunk themselves.

Like the Peek-A-Block wagon, it's great for a phase. After less than a year, she moved on to other toys. The Peek-a-Blocks are sitting at Grandma and Grandpa's for occasional play.

My daughter likes this toy because of the fun, upbeat music it plays, and loves pushing the elephant around (she's not confident enough to walk on her own and pull it along). She also loves looking at the blocks.

*I* like the toy because it really encourages her to move around. She's pretty active as it is, but this toy really helps her direct her energy. My daughter has the peek-a-blocks giraffe, but she likes this elephant much better...there's just more going on here. In addition to playing with the elephant, my daughter enjoys it when we sit together and talk about what's inside the blocks. I think these are great products for encouraging interaction with your baby.

He has the entire line of Peek-A-Blocks, I must praise Fisher-Price for creating such imaginitive and durable toys.

Fisher-Price Brilliant Basics Baby's First Purse

Fisher-Price Brilliant Basics Baby's First PurseBought this for Xmas stuffer for my 9 month old. She is teething like crazy n I thought this is cute to chew on. The purse has little beads in it but I think she has not even paid any attention to it. The two extending toys r easy to grasp n bite on. One has a little mirror but it's so little that she has not even notice she can see herself in it. Easy toy to play with.

Great product for little hands when it comes time to teething. My 10mth old loved it. The different textures really seemed to help her gums.. Highly recommend.

Fisher-Price Brilliant Basics Snap-Lock Caterpillar

Fisher-Price Brilliant Basics Snap-Lock CaterpillarMy mother in law purchased this for our 8 month old son. I was very appreciative for the thoughtfulness but I expected it to be just another item for the toy box, boy was I wrong. Our son loves this toy!!! It has parts that rattle, spin and turn in addition to great nubs for chewing. I think that his favorite part is ripping each section apart. It takes a little but of effort for him to get it apart even though he is large and strong for his age, so I think that aspect will still be entertaining for a while. Overall I am thrilled that she purchased this toy for him and I would definitely purchase it as a gift for a friend.

I am pleased with the Fisher Price Caterpillar. It was a gift for my new little granddaughter, Hailey. The colors are very vivid and it is another quality product from this company. I have been purchasing Fisher Price toys since 1974 when I had my first baby. Since then, I have purchased dozens of Fisher Price toys through the growing up years of my six children and now through the additions of 17 grandchildren. In fact, my grandchildren are still enjoying play time with toys that their parents played with including the Sesame Street Club House and the Fisher Price Castle.

My 6 month old likes this toy. Its a lot bigger than it looks in the pictures. Its not huge, just bigger than I though. The bug comes apart into "beads" that are each about 3 inches long. My daughter chews on the antennas. She's too little to try to put the bug back together, so the pieces are kind of everywhere at the moment. Overall, its a good little toy.

Lamaze My First Toolbox Baby Toy

Lamaze My First Toolbox Baby ToyBought this for my little girl who's now 7 months old and she loves this. The toolbox itself, the saw, and the beaver's tail make a crinkle noise like cellophane, the hammer makes a squeaky noise when hit. Great fun!

I purchased my first toolbox for our son for Christmas and I have to say that it is adorable. I would give it five stars but I personally feel it is a little expensive for what it is. The saw blade makes a crinkle sound and so does the beaver's tale. The hammer has a squeeker in the flat part. I also use the toolbox itself to fit other small toys into, but it would have been nice if it included another tool.

Chicco Walker

Chicco Lil Piano Splash WalkerI started letting my son play in this walker when he was about 4 months old. He would lean forward because he was still needing support to sit upright, so I started rolling up a towel or blanket and putting it between his chest and the walker. Let me tell you, he just loved it from the moment we put him in! He would just laugh and laugh and push off with his feet like crazy.

I think we ejoy watching him in it more than him. I love the brake pads feature which prevent the walker from going over any changes in flooring, like stairs or a door jam. I actually took them off, as our house is only one story, and I am always near to him while he is in it.

THe little piano tray is excellent, and has such a variety of sounds and songs that he can make. THey are not too annoying or shrill sounding, either, like so many childrens toys.

It was not too hard to put together, although i did need to follow the manual pretty closely, as I could not figure out the pieces on my own. I think it probably took about 20 minutes to get all set up.

I like that the music tray is removeable, so it can become a tray for little toys or even snacks later on.

I wold highly recommend this toy, as my son seems to like it very much

I bought this walker for my son when he was 6 months old. At the time he weighed 23 pounds. I was so excited to get him standing as he is one independent little man. When the walker showed up we assembled it but I immediately noticed the seat appeared a bit small. I set him in there with high hopes that he would fit. Sadly he did not. His chubby little legs barley fit through the holes. I left him in there for just a few minutes to see if maybe the material would stretch but my son just wanted out. When I took him out he had dark red marks on his thighs. I tried to make the leg holes bigger by cutting the sides of the material and adding elastic but that didn't help as the rest of the seat is all small. Since Iv'e altered the seat I cant return it. So parents who have bigger chubby babies. SAVE YOUR MONEY!!!!

Buy Chicco Walker Now

Although he liked it at first, my 7-month old son cries when I put him in this. I can see why...the position of the seat is such that his stomach is holding all his weight. It's hard to explain, but the seat goes really far forward. Another reviewer commented on this as well. Also, the rear wheels are fixed, meaning he can't get himself out of corners at all. So I put him on a straightaway portion of our floor. He cruises to the other side, bumps into something, I have to go turn him around. It is a very parent-involved activity, which is not he reason I bought it. The music is loud and not very pleasant. I would return it if I had the patience to disassemble and ship back. Also, I'm not sure if other walkers are any better.

UPDATE: I like this a little better now, but not enough to change my rating. My son no longer protests when I put him in it (at 9.5 mos), and is getting slightly more skilled at getting himself out of corners. And it occurred to me that maybe it has to be designed so the child leans forward at least a little to be able to get traction enough to walk (but I still think the seat angle is excessive).

I bought this item for my grand baby. It has worked great. Makes all kinds of sounds and has a couple of different beeps. The seat adjusts to several heights. This walker has automatic brake that stops it from moving forward when the front wheel goes over a lip like the driveway.

I ordered this when our son was 5 months old and he immediately loved it. He is now 7 months old and still as interested as ever. He can back up and maneuver all over the place where there is hard floors. He really enjoys the independence. The toy tray comes out for cleaning, and the sounds aren't overly obnoxious. For us, it was worth every penny.

TOLO Rolling Shape Sorter

TOLO Rolling Shape SorterThis shape sorter is by far the best one we've had (and we've had several)! Both ends are removable and also lock in place. Each shape (there are six) has a different rattle sound and is a different color. Would highly recommend it to others!

My 8 month old seems to love it, so far. I like that it will "grow" with him, as he will be able to start putting the shapes in their respective holes after awhile--right now he just enjoys listening to it make all sorts of noise/rolling it on the floor.

Buy TOLO Rolling Shape Sorter Now

This shape sorter is great in that it is smooth and compact and you can put in the shapes and keep them inside. However, I found two problems. The manufacturer did not make the openings all big enough. The yellow shape on mine has to be pushed down by an adult. My year old grandson puts it in the right place but he isn't strong enough to push it down into such a tight hole.

I never thought of him putting his hand in between the bars to reach for a shape and since he is holding one he cannot pull out his hand. An adult has to open the top, reach in, remove the toy from his hand and get his hand unstuck!

But the best part of the toy is that each shape is a separate rattle. It fits nicely in a child's hand. My grandson shakes them like rattles and carries one or two around, even out of the house. They do keep him happy and his hands are out of trouble.

This is a quality toy. I would not hesitate to send it as a gift. The construction is solid and the colors are bright. Because of the way it is made, it spans a big age range. Children can insert the shapes into both ends with parental guidance/help, and as s/he grows older s/he can do it on his/her own. Younger children enjoy shaking the rattles.

Definitely recommend!

Haba Walker Wagon

Haba Walker WagonMy boy received 4 similar walkers as gifts (a fisher price multi-fangled piano/walker, melissa & doug alligator push toy (Melissa & Doug Deluxe Wooden Chomp and Clack Alligator Push Toy, and another plastic piece that I don't remember well because it hit the trash on day 2). The Haba walker is superior to all for the following reasons:

1. Straightforward toy the kid will not be confused about its function by bells and whistles (the fisher price one is bound to lead to ADD with the 20+ buttons, non-stop noise, bells, music, and no OFF-button!!!)

2. HEAVY this is extremely useful when the child feels like they can run but they are not steady on their feet yet (my kid never fell using this; the first time we took the fisher price walker out for a spin he fell twice in the span of 15 minutes). This walker is also more stable than the melissa & doug one. The downside is that the kid will not be able to steer this walker at the beginning, but they figure it out soon.

3. The Haba walker is QUIET (despite the lack of battery-operated buttons, the melissa and doug walker makes a ridiculous amount of noise).

4. The brakes are very useful when the baby was too young to push this, I tightened the brakes to the point that the wheels would not turn at all so he could use it as a sturdy piece to pull himself up. Once he became more steady on his feet, I loosened the brakes gradually.

5. Longer use time. Compared to the melissa & doug, the Haba walker can be used as a wagon to carry toys and give little friends rides long after baby learns to walk.

6. Best posture I found my boy bending too much forward when pushing the other walkers compared to this.

Shell the extra cash and get your kid a few quality pieces instead of tons of plastic toys that will teach him nothing about how the real world works.

UPDATE

We got this walker when my son was 7 months old and had just started pulling up. Now, at 2 years old, he still takes this walker for a spin daily. In fact he has abused it somewhat (by standing on the seat and trying all sorts of acrobatics while doing so, and surprisingly he hasn't fallen). The toy looks the same as the day we got it.

We love the simplicity of this extremely well-made walker with its sleek, easy-on-the-eyes design. When we were looking for the right walker for our son, we did not need one that would teach him the alphabet in Spanish, set his around-the-house jaunts to a soundtrack of electronic music, or offer shape sorting and bead maze capabilities. When our son sees this walker, he gets excited because he knows exactly what it is for--providing a fun way to move and explore, while offering his little toy companions a ride, as well. The simple design of this walker also will make it conducive to pretend play as our son gets older. I can't say enough about the quality of this product. It is extremely safe and sturdy, and yet, our son has never had trouble pushing it over carpet. It is worth the price you will pay, and it will last for years.

**Update** My son will be 4 in less than 2 months, and he still plays with this. It is his grocery cart or push mower depending on the mood. And it's just as sturdy as the day we bought it.

Buy Haba Walker Wagon Now

Our 11 month old son loves this wagon and so do I. He has no problem at all pushing it on carpet and he's banged this wagon into my white wood moldings over a hundred times and it still hasn't left a mark and the wheels don't scratch or leave marks on wood floors either. I wonder if the last reviewer got a different wagon or maybe their child just isn't ready for it because I can't find anything wrong with mine. It's true that it's heavy but that's because it's solid wood and well-made and because of that it won't tip over on your child when they pull up on it. If you want a light weight cheaply made wagon that will tip over and hurt your child buy one made in China. You'll get your moneys worth with this wagon, you'll be able to pass this down to other children. Plus there are no small parts that could break off (the Radio Flyer wagon that's MADE IN CHINA has small plastic parts that many reviewers have said break off [Radio Flyer Classic Walker Wagon]) or lead paint (All lead paint recalls have been on China made products) on this wagon that could harm your child. Don't waste your money on plastic poisonious garbage buy this wagon and you won't regret it!

I was reluctant to spend over $100 on a walker, but to be honest I have grown tired of spending good money on junky plastic toys. You will not be disappointed with this purchase. This is the kind of walker you can pass down to your grandkids. Haba toys are always so well made, and so incredibly durable. My baby took to it immediately and loves to walk with his new assistance. Some people have raved about this wagon, some people have complained about how it is poorly constructed, some have berated the people who complained for being stupid and not following the assembly instructions.

I'm here to clear that up.

The wagon I received has a NEW CONSTRUCTION. The pictures of the wagon show that the handle is bolted with two bolts on each side (for a total of four bolts). The wagon I received only has one bolt on each side (total of two bolts) and also includes one pin on each side to help the handle from falling down completely. This doesn't appear to be a *mistake*, as it is what the instruction paper that came with the wagon shows, but it is different from the official wagon pictures, not what I expected, and not as safe. The pins must be what another reviewer mentioned stick out (and don't seem to be able to stay on very well). The pins are an ATTEMPT to serve the purpose that the extra set of bolts used to, but they don't actually hold the handle in place. The handle moves around WAY too much without a second set of bolts--it can flop all the way down to the front wheels.

Oh, also, my little kit of bolts and washers also included an Allen wrench that probably would've helped to tighten the OLD STYLE screws. It serves no purpose with the new bolt kit.

I do not understand this at all. How can a floppy handled wagon still be called a "walker wagon?" My child has not been able to use this borderline dangerous toy, and I'm extremely disappointed that Haba would release the wagon with this new design.

UPDATE (4/10/12): Haba replaced my wagon, which turned out to be defective because its handle did not have spaces into which the pins would fit. I considered deleting most of my original assessment because my baby's enjoying the wagon now and it works, but I think my review is still relevant because it shows that Haba has rushed out this new design without doing enough quality testing. The company should also update its stock photos and instruction sheet. (I didn't receive an Allen wrench in my replacement wagon box, but, strangely, an Allen wrench still shows up in picture form on the new instruction sheet, though no explanation is given as to why it is there.)

Skip Hop 20 Piece 70"x56" PlaySpot Floor Mat

Skip Hop 20 Piece 70'x56' PlaySpot Floor Mat, Green/BrownI am very happy with my play spot. I bought it for the following reasons: 1. I wanted to set aside a safe, clean area for my baby to play and explore where there would be no foot traffic 2. I wanted to protect my baby from hitting the floor and 3. I wanted something that would look nice in our loft apartment (most of the baby stuff out there is garish, ugly and in awful colors). Unlike other reviewers, I don't have any issues keeping it clean. Yes, it gets dusty, but no more than the rest of our wood floors (and we live near Ground Zero where there is a ton of construction/dust all over the place) and in fact, it is cleaner than the rest of the floors because we don't walk over it. In terms of the gaps, I don't have any issues because I'm not trying to protect the floor from the baby; rather, I'm trying to protect the baby from the floor. For this purpose, it works extremely well, especially during the transition period when the baby is still perfecting the art of sitting up. The design and colors are great; they don't cheapen the look of our loft unlike most of the baby things out there.

Since this product meets all of my needs, I give it 5 stars.

I was really excited about this product but it is a total disappointment. I read all the other negative reviews but didn't want to believe them b/c it's just so cute! Well it came today and after about 10 minutes of having it out I knew it had to go back.

*The smell is VERY strong, smells like paint fumes. Granted, I only had it out for a few minutes, maybe after a few days of airing it out it would go away, but I didn't want this smell around my son for any amount of time at all. I've heard this complaint with other foam mats, though, so maybe this is not avoidable. It is a STRONG smell, though.

*In the photos this mat looks so much cuter than all the other available foam mats for kids. But in person the colors just aren't as cute for the blue/gold at least. Hard to describe, but the colors are a little less bold, not as rich. (Still much better looking compared to the ABC mats, though.)

*The texture In the photos, this mat looks smooth and soft, sort of shiny, whereas the product photos of other foam mats make them look textured and sort of rough, not smooth at all. And they call themselves textured. This product calls itself smooth but when you get it it's just as textured (or seem to be just as textured) as all the other mats on the market, and doesn't have a "smooth" quality about it the way I expected. It does not have a "shiny" side.

*I thought this mat would be thicker and/or softer than other mats, but it is not. It is about 1/2" thick, which isn't necessarily bad, but to me it's not thick enough or soft enough for my almost 6-month-old to play on without any additional blankets or etc. It is very thin and very firm.

*Too many pieces This is the complaint most people who had negative reviews wrote about it, and I figured we'd just deal with that, and maybe our son would have fun with it. This isn't a major reason we're going to return it but I did notice right away how easily they come apart. When you take a square out of the package, the circle immediately falls out, just to give you an idea of how not-that-snug they are. But on the floor it does seem to stay in place, but I can't comment too much on that since again, we didn't really use it.

Overall the quality is just not enough. Or, really, the quality paired with the physical appearance of it, is just not enough. I thought the cute blue/gold (brown) modern colors made it worth it for us to spend like double the price on this mat vs. some other ones, but the colors aren't as cute in person (maybe the other color sets are), it's too thin and firm for us, and the fumes were too strong.

Now, if you really like the colors (hopefully you can find them in person at a store to check it out first), then this might be worth it. Just be prepared to air it out, and know that it will be as much of a toy as it is a mat when your child is old enough to get the pieces out, and while your baby is very young be prepared to use some additional padding for his/her comfort. The padding might be fine for an older toddler. Also, though I don't know for sure, I can't imagine it being that much harder to keep clean than any other mat it looks like all the other ones, similar texture why would it attract more dust (like others have talked about)?

***Edit: I've had this product for several months now after deciding not to return it after all. We use just the blue/brown pieces and it looks great and we've had no issues. Yes our son likes to take the pieces apart but not that often and it's fun for him when he does. It does not attract dust or dirt and is easy to clean. I take back a lot of what I wrote here b/c I was being too picky. I was expecting the padding to be so thick but I was expecting an unreasonable amount of padding. It is pretty nice cushioning underfoot and when baby falls back or etc.

We were pretty excited about getting this product, and I was excited all through installation up until we actually started using it.

A play mat should provide three basic functions.

Safety, cleanliness, and durability.

Safety:

Within a day, the play mat had pieces of it popping out when any weight, such as a child walking, was placed on it(exposing any child on it to the floor), and any mildly adventurous child with any kind of hand control will be able to easily remove the circular pieces from the mat (why the circular parts are made to pop out is a mystery to me). This completely defeats the purpose of keeping your child safe from minor bumps against the floor.

Cleanliness:

I can appreciate the tiles being configurable, but the shoddy fit, and unnecessary circular cutouts (which also causes the popping out mentioned above), is an absolute dirt/grit/dust/crumb magnet. Also the excessive gaps will not protect your floor from anything that might wet it (like a bathroom accident). Additionally cleaning this mat is a royal pain. instead of just wiping down one side of one surface, as you would for a normal play mat you are essentially wiping down a minimum of 16 pieces (far more than double that if you count all the pieces), and depending on the mess (such as a liquid spill) you will be cleaning up both sides because of the excessive gappage.

Durability:

I don't think it is unreasonable to expect something that is meant to take the daily abuse of being trodden on by children to be durable. But the foam material that this pad is constructed of isn't much better than some of your better packing material. It is easily scuffed, scratched gouged and warped. Within a day of light use (our daughter can't even crawl yet) the skip hop play mat looked like I would have expected it to look after years of hard service.

Very very disappointing.

A very clear and unfortunate example of aesthetics taking precedence over practicality.

Couldn't be happier with this play mat. I read reviews before purchasing and was hesitant. Some people said it had a strong smell, was poor quality, etc. First of all, this mat has ZERO smell. I put my nose right up to it, and cant smell anything. It is adorable, and came in excellent condition. It's pricey, yes, but worth it to have something for my baby to play and crawl on that is PVC free. We tried another foam mat before this one and had to return it because of the harsh smell. My son sits up on this and falls backwards...bumps his head and there are no tears! It's not SUPER thick foam, but thick enough for what you need it for. The best looking foam play mat out there, good size and best of all eco friendly! My son loves it and so do we! Definitely don't listen to the negative reviews....this is well worth the expensive price tag.

Nice colors, but this mat gets DIRTY and scratched very easily. Not very good quality, either...the pieces don't always fit nice and snug so leaves spaces between them, which collect lots of dust, baby snack crumbs and etc...(Can't believe it was designed for babies/kids!) Very very disappointed...I want to send it back to the product design dept. at Skip Hop. DON'T BUY!!

Kushies Zolo Libro

Kushies Zolo Libro Coco CatI am disappointed with this book (cat version). The objects in the water filled fish tank page do not float or move within as one would expect and the cat sound is almost impossible to activate (even for an adult). The book is cute and my infant enjoys it, but I would expect a better product for what is advertised and the price paid.

Clearly not a story book, Ozlo (like Coco) is a "multisensory activity book". The pages feature bright colors, different textures, a reflective surface, and even a doggy sound. This is a cheerful and imaginative update of the old "Pat the Bunny", first published in 1940, and a bit too fragile for tiny tots.

While i love reading books, my daughter and i also enjoy books with no words. I have fun making stories to go with pictures. Since she began talking, i can ask her what she sees, which encourages speaking and vocabulary. And now she can tell her own stories, using the visuals as a spark for her imagination.

I have twin baby boys and a 3 year old. They all LOVE them! If I give them this book in the car they are happy for at least 20 minutes!!! I have never had any toy provide entertainment for that long. Every child is different, but my three boys all agree this and the other book (the dog version)is great.

I was disappointed when I pulled this toy out of the box. It's small, and there's no story. The only thing it's good for is a chew toy for my 11-month-old son. It was expensive for just being that. I wouldn't recommend it.

Tek Nek Sesame Street Shapes and Colors Ride-On

Tek Nek Sesame Street Shapes and Colors Ride-OnSUPER FAST SHIPPING!!!, item as described

the quality is not top notch but, lets face my 2 yr old is like Bam Bam so its facing imminent destruction anyway!! so it very good for what it is and he loves it!!! another thing that was great is it comes fully assembled. bottom line is if your looking for a entertaining toy but on a tight budget this will fit the bill.

The talked characters sound a little spooky. My daughter presses the button and then looks to me for reassurance that it's ok because it's not soft spoken baby friendly sounds but it is a perfect size for a 12mo old.

The ride on is nicely built, has a lot of shapes, colors, voices, stickers. But almost all the stickers are creased, wrinkled, bubbling at crease, and crooked. Whoever put the stickers on didn't do a quality job. The yellow triangle in the front doesn't work when you press the button. If the stickers were put on properly and the yellow triangle worked, this would get 5 stars.
